I was invited to a retirement dinner at a restaurant once and the hostesses ordered all the food for all the guests and it was served "family style". After everyone ate they then pulled out a CACULATOR and divided the total by the # of guests. And told us to pay...even stood by the door of the room so no one would leave. My girlfriend just threw herself a birthday dinner for 50+ people at one of the nicest restaurants in Atlanta. Special menu that included Ribeye, Branzino..etc AND unlimited alcoholic beverages (all top shelf). My good sis paid for EVERYONE!!! Some have it, while others pretend! 💅🏾

I was the Co Chair of an Organization in University and one of my duties was planning the mid year and end of year dinners. Money had been earned collected and set aside for both nearly a year in advance. The Sponsor added an extra $1000 of her personal money just to make sure we had enough, that the appropriate gifts were purchased and that all the invitations and marketing was taken care of. From that experience I learned that catering and Party planning takes months and lots of consideration I am grateful for that experience and use that way of thinking and planning to this day. My Dad and I hosted a birthday dinner for my Mom this past weekend for her and family and friends. Check came and my Dad plunked down his card before the check was fully at the table and tipped well. My friends and I split the check equally regardless of who ordered what because somebody dranked more than they ate and ate more than they drank. It wasn't always like this but we grew up and live according to our growth. We all understand it's the fellowship over the expense.

I’m with you to a point. I don’t drink alcohol at all but, I’ve had friends in the past who will order an obscene amount of alcoholic drinks while we at dinner and still expect to split the bill for food AND drinks with me included in that. Because they know I’m the highest earner they EXPECTED me to split the bill equally (dinner wasn’t my idea btw). You get only ONE opportunity to play me like that. It is common for hosts to pay the entire bill...I did for my mom's 70th bday dinner which had 28 guests. It is also common for folks to split the bill and make sure the birthday guest of honor doesn't pay. HOWEVER, Like Q said....in those social circles (reality TV celebrities, and other demographics), the host always pays. Period.
