The New Yorkers adore her, her concerts are always Sold Out! She was taking everyone (Over 3000 seats) in such a exciting roller coaster ride with her Signature Concerto! She must made her former husband and the entire orchestral members So Proud-the entire house was brought down by her enchanting artistry and dazzling pyrotechnics!!!

I love watchin pianists play from this angle. Very effective in learning their fingerings and how they use their hands and wrists.

I heard many excellent performances of this concerto, both on cd and live (Bolet, Magaloff, Gilels, Ashkenazy, Béroff, Wang, Gutierrez), but nobody is as complete as Martha or plays it with the same bite! Regardless whether it's her legendary recording from 1967 with Abbado or one of her many live concerts, she has always played this concerto exceptionally well, it's simply "her" concerto. And it's like Stephen Hough pointed out in the Gramaphone of June this year: she still plays it with the same ease and fire, e.g. in the streaming of last December with Chung at the Philharmonie de Paris. This one was maybe even more exceptional ;-)

Electric playing! This must have been around the same time as the cd release of Prokofiev 1, 3 and Bartok 3, same orchestra with Dutoit conducting. I personally always loved that recording and it’s probably the best Prokofiev 3 you can find - but wonderful to hear the live equivalent!

After Martha's performance, North America will never see a better Prokofiev again! In some performances, Martha has explosive power; it happened with Tchaecoskly, and it definitely happened in this performance. It looks as if Martha gets a shot of adrenaline just before the performance. I am surprised those hammers were still intact after the performance :) @21:00 21:23 28:00 29:00

This performance is definitely legendary . Even on video you’re stuck on your seat with the sheer electricity of her playing . I’ll never get tired of it I think

Martha Argerich plays this 3rd concerto by Prokofiev so well that I find it really unfortunate that she never wanted to play the second concerto by the same composer which, in my opinion, would have suited her like a glove. Same for the concerto for the left hand by Ravel given the quality of her interpretation of the concerto in G (as well as other works by Ravel).
@CharlesCouineau2 жыл бұрын
I think she played the Ravel concerto for the left hand a few times but she stopped playing it as she said it was giving her a stiff neck…

An extremely valuable document. For once the camera is focused where it ought to be, on Martha incredibly at work, and not wandering aimlessly and arbitrarily around.

And, according to her own account, she learned it by listening to Cucucha Castro practicing in Vienna.

This is the ideal angle to watch Argerich. One wishes that someone had captured her in Rachmaninov 3. Alas we're stuck with that gawd-awful Chailly travesty wherein the camera seems more interested in the conductor.

I think the poor orchestra has a hard time keeping up with her...her talent is supernatural...

This was an amateur recording from some home camera in the 90s. Did you expect it to be good quality?

Yeah, but the view of the hands of the GOAT is amazing, look at those things go! There’s a few hundred great recordings of this concerto somewhere.
