Martha "Matt" Sumner

Martha “Matt” (Thomas) Sumner (1886-1981) was interviewed at Shady Lawn Nursing Home in Cadiz, Kentucky, by her niece Louise S. Thomas, ca. 1978. Aunt “Matt” was about 92 years old at the time.
Mrs. Sumner spoke about growing up in the Oak Grove community of Trigg County, Kentucky. Topics covered include: descriptions of houses, Christmases as a child, “play parties,” church activities, fashion, slavery, and women’s suffrage. She also spoke about the first Thomas & Bridges family reunion in 1921.
