Looking good for almost 79, Martha. I often think that it would be a great thing for neighborhoods everywhere if there were more community gardens. Places that are truly oases. In today's unpredictable world those gardens would probably need a strong fence and controlled access to preserve them from vandals. In place of murals, a living natural area, with shade trees and living specimens.

Sorry but this is actually incorrect. You add soil and then water well in order to get rid of any air pockets. Then often one needs to add more soil and water again.

Martha the One Percent, looking down her nose at our red geraniums, rich-splaining.
@elainehamilton18094 жыл бұрын
Garish just means "obtrusively bright and showy." In landscaping, red flowers are used sparingly and placed intentionally when the designer wants to create visual tension. Nothing wrong with red geraniums but Martha's style of garden landscaping is more subdued so the plants blend in well with each other and the eye flows from one plant to the next without one attracting all the attention. I'm sure she didn't mean it to sound the way you think.

OK I have some questions/ comments: 1. Why is nobody wearing a mask even though there is less than 6 feet between people? I understand the gardener staying on the estate but what about you? And your vehicle passenger? 2. You did not mention a single variety name for any of the plants you showed. This is so frustrating. Why would you do that? 3. Is it really OK to demean the taste of fellow gardeners by referring to color choices other than your own as, “GARISH?” I think it is OK to have an occasional pop of complimentary color and if I were more judgmental I could refer to your choices as drab, wan, or uninspiring but I won’t cuz I wuz brought up better. 😉

I usually love CBS Sunday Morning. However, this is insulting. Red Geraniums are beneath her? She is condescending and arrogant. She advertises her product as if her audience are toddlers. “See my name Martha?” This piece was insulting at a time when so many people are barely hanging on. Nice try, but perhaps her 157 acres could be used for more than boasting.

I absolutely adore red geraniums - they’re a lovely staple at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, home of the longest front porch, where room rates are certainly not cheap. I’ve always thought of geraniums as being a very tailored, classy flower. I nearly choked when she called them “GARISH”!!! For Pete’s sake. Her nose is so high in the air, she must drown every time it rains.

So, Martha has been "farming" 153 acres in Westchester County, NY for about 15 years. Really Martha? I have trouble picturing you on a tractor, fixing a tractor, knowing which implement to use on said tractor, attaching the implement to said tractor, or better yet, getting your hands dirty! We all saw her idea of "planting" in this piece. Then, when she had the chance to plant something, a young man came along and did it but Martha couldn't pass up a chance to sell one of her garden implements, a hori, hori knife. Why would I spend $28 for that when God gave me 2 good hands to separate the roots from the dirt? Yeah Martha, I don't think so.
