Hello everyone, First of all I am so happy that this video is so far appreciated and will aid many people in their wonderful journey of Aikido. We will continue to make more videos and develop as we keep on going. This video is here because of all of your support during the last year. Thank You. On a side note, I was reached out to by a deaf person who would love to watch the video, yet this video doesn't have subtitles. I have this idea, what if we would all add at least a bit of text to the subtitles so it would be accessible even to more people? If you are interested here is a link to contribute subtitles: kzbin.info_video?ref=share&v=uhPu6iNV7jE . Thank you in advance

I would love to see a "meeting of the minds," comparing and contrasting the techniques and philosophies of these three arts. I have often thought that there is much they could learn from each other.

Hello, I am just starting in Aikido (I am almost 70 years old) and I am finding your tutorial video tremendously helpful, informative and beneficial especially in the basic technics and principals (where I am at the moment) which are the foundation for any beginners future development in this beautiful and fascinating martial art. Have no words to express my gratitude for your hard work summarizing, addressing and explaining in great details all the most important topics in this video. If I may suggest a list with all/some Japanese terminologies will be really very helpful. Please accept my deepest appreciation and great respect. Thank you.

This is most probably the most in depth, complete explanation of a martial arts techniques found anywhere. I really appreciate you doing this Rokas. I know you have been on an amazing adventure seeking the truth in martial arts, and fighting. Honestly, I was really bummed when you quit Aikido. I have had a few classes in Aikido over time, and here in the US,. I found the instructors and practitioners very open and well, kind. The Dojos were clean and nice. I have not lived somewhere until now, near an Aikido dojo. I very much associate the Aikido, um, spirituality I guess you'd say. Even though I have boxed, wrestled, judo, football, rodeo, the Army, etc. I have never really enjoyed the idea of self defense being to beat someone to a pulp. With the fists, elbows, legs, knee and feet. I am aligned with using someone's aggression to subdue them, in a way that works but doesn't permanently injure them. I am something of a real cowboy, a white hat cowboy. But, maybe you just can't actually do that in the real world. Obviously there are different levels of violence, from your drunk uncle getting handsy, to a boxing match or football game, to a person bent on killing you. If someone is intent on hurting or killing, I have no problem doing what it takes. SO, ROKAS, A QUESTION FOR YOU PLEASE: Do you think the ideals and precepts of Aikido could work? Maybe not in the most violent of situations, but maybe in the rest? What would it take to do so? I want to try Aikido, but I want to know if I am really just learning a form of dance? That maybe ok, I just want to know what could be, or what is.
@WENDIGONEMAD Жыл бұрын
I'm not Rokas, feel free to disregard my answer. The ideals of Aikido can work. The immense majority of Aikido dojo are not the place to learn it. To threaten and to control, you need to be able to dominate and destroy. When you are way more skilled than your opponent, you can spare him. Aikido tries to do the sparing without learning how to kill/break/damage. Ueshiba did many martial arts before making Aikido... If you want to real the ideal of Aikido, learn violence to the best of your abilities, then chose to not use it.

I love your tutorial. When I started Aikido 3 yrs ago these lessons were my lifeline. If I wasn't sure about something in class it was not always easy to ask questions. I would just rush home and look at your videos and the next class became a breeze. When you started BJJ I worried that you might take this tutorial down. Thank Goodness you didn't. In my humble opinion I think you should create a DVD series and sell them because none of the 3 sets, 6 sets etc that I have invested in so far, has given me as solid a foundation as I got and continue to get from your tutorial video. Every new comer to our dojo gets introduced to your tutorial and they say ALL say it's their go to choice for step by step explanations. Good luck with BJJ but please return to the fold soon.

Keep in mind...Aikido is an ancient ART. It it not meant for those with intentions of misusing it, nor is it for those who are weak at heart. It takes many years of rigorous training and whole-hearted dedication for one to even have the privilege to learn in it's entirety. As a 2nd Degree Black Belt, and private Instructor in the discipline of Aikido, I know the sacrifices an individual must make in life to earn it's knowledge. FLOW.

As someone who just started and is looking for specific Aikido content, I think the format is kind of overwhelming. 4-5h is long for a video, but short for the idea to explain something completely, that is a way of life for others. I'm sure it has been a lot of work (including mastering the art). I respect that and it probably also helped a lot of people. It's just not - I don't know - fitting for what Aikido should be, I guess.

It was your first time in the ring! And against a 10 year vet. I believe your techniques WILL START TO WORK. I coached boxing for a few years. I ADMIRE YOUR HONESTY. If you are willing to be punched in the head over and over, you will eventually win, I think, after years. Why not Judo instead? Aikido "cleans up" so much Judo, which is often taught in a very sloppy manner. Well, I love your classes. I learn.

There is no such thing as "pure" judo, or "pure" Aikido, or "pure" karate. Most of the Jujutsu practitioners in the past also practiced Karate and other traditional striking techniques. Watch this famous Japanese TV series. It talked about a "dramatized" version of the founder of Judo who united all Japanese Jujutsu during the Edo era.
