Wonderful and moving hymn with just the right tune! To God and His blessed Son be the glory !

A very God exalting hymn, now compare this with the modern hymns of today, and one can clearly see how much of today's modern hymns lack rich deep theology. Thank you so much for sharing this. God bless you.

Agree. I think as soon as you sideline Psalm singing, the worship and hymns' focus begins to drift away from God and on to us instead. It's only once I joined a Psalm singing denomination that I noticed how much influence carried over into the older hymns. Even the choice of hymn tunes often echoed Psalms with similar meanings that the tunes had been traditionally matched with. I'm worried that the Free Church will drift the same way, even though I have no theological objection to including hymns. Non psalm-or-paraphrase songs almost always take over. As does accompaniment overshadowing words and meaning.

It's taken from a Jewish hymn, explains Google..

sometime in the 12th century a Jewish scholar named Moses Maimonides wrote a confession of faith w/13 stanzas. In 1404 Daniel ben Judah, impressed by the creed, composed the Yigdal, a doxology of 13 stanzas apparently still widely sung in Jewish synagogues today. In 1770, Meyer Lyon sang the Yigdal in London’s Great Synagogue. Thomas Olivers was in attendance. He translated it from Hebrew, and turned the Jewish doxology into a Christian hymn, still with 13 stanzas. It appeared in John Wesley’s Pocket Hymnbook in 1785.
