Martin 000-18 Guitar Pro Setup

Wow, I'd never had a real, professional setup of this guitar. It makes a big difference. Thanks to Chris at BR Fret Shop in Hawaii Kai, Oahu, Hawaii. My Martin 000-18 acoustic guitar sounds and plays better than ever.

Hello there, for my D18 (2021) I use 13 gauge. Now I mostly play with fingers including the strumming. What in your opinion should be the numbers at the 12th fret. Note: I often downtune ½ or 1 step. Thank you.

Reamed out the pins. Ive never heard of that. Did you mean you chamfered out the bridge pin holes

The binding on my 000-18 is doing the EXACT same thing in the EXACT same place! I could my whole house humidified.......its a Martin problem......

Why did you need such an extensive setup on an essentially new guitar? Was Martin's factory set up that bad?

John S, apparently this was a guitar that was in the store for a couple years and never sold, so the store sold it for a loss to turn it over. Sad reality for the guitar business, stuff just doesnt sell anymore. But yeah, this being Hawaii, a guitar thats been in that climate for 3-4 years(my guess) would definately have humidity related issues.

How did this guitar take Soooo much abuse in 4 years. Cleaning the strings and neck after playing saves the frets as well as washing your hands b4 playing. Geeze, as I was writing this, he mentioned washing hands. I have guitars from the 70s and 80s that I bought new, and the frets are not pitted or gouged. My guitars ARE my babies.

He lives in Hawaii in a apartment without air conditioning. Humidity and heat aren’t nice to high end acoustic guitars.

You haven’t had this guitar too long. A lot of crap for a newer martin. Don’t think I will get a standard martin. Maybe a custom or a Collings, Santa Cruz, Guild, etc. I would be pissed.

My D-41 has issues too. Hawaii is a hard climate on guitars. I live in a condo with no air-conditioning.

i dont think this is exactly a new guitar. Judging by the marks on the headstock this thing was probably in the store for 3 or 4 years, and the store would have sold it for cost or below cost to offload it. A high humidity climate like Hawaii would be very very harsh on these instruments.

I just picked up a 2011 000-18! It's so pretty sounding and currently has Elixirs. I'm new to guitar (1 year now) so they feel soft compared to the old Martin strings (they were old) but hearing about the D'Addario strings has peaked my interest. If these Elixirs ever go bad I'll have to switch.

@@dallgire LOL - DAMN that sucks. I know how that feels. I was stationed in Pearl and lived in barracks with no AC. During the summer months, the humidity and heat at night made it feel like I was sleeping in a sauna. I'd wake up 5lbs lighter in the morning. Brutal!
