(Pretenders fan for many years).... Martin is a great team player AND an awesome drummer working with a talented (sorry Chrissy) control freak. Like working for Sting, for example. Players with great feel make the band. Studio musicians can be sterile and uninspiring sometimes. MARTIN! Have enjoyed you playing very much for many years!

What a wonderful man. Never says a bad thing about her.

Not quite true. He was obviously sacked for money and I am guessing whatever rights he had were bought off CH and her management. I suspect Martin was having problems and CH took advantage. When Martin mentions "just cause", he is talking about contractual breach or basis for dismissal. What seems to have happened is that Martin lost any and all rights, "control" to the original Pretenders band. He is obviously out of the band for now or he wouldn't be so open about his displeasure with CH.

regarding Martin not playing well with ms Hyndes rhythm guitar,, years befor the Pretenders Martin was drummer with Karakorum for 3 years playing all over UK while I was singer/rhythm guitar and you can check out our reunion here...../watch?v=pKuntATMxUc.... jamming a new song to our band after 38 years and no rehearsal and on that film at 4.00 minutes actually I spontaniously changed the jamming structure which totally surprised the whole band at that moment including Martin who faultlessly follows through to the end, so thank you Martin, you were always a great drummer and, by the way, when she interrupted your talk at the award ceremony its a shame you didn't turn and pan her out cold......much luv

Fairly unforgivable of chrissie really. He was the foundation of the original band, and loses two of his best friends and bandmates, and then gets sacked by chrissie. So he loses his band after losing his friends

What happened to Episode 5, Happy Birthday Martin Chambers the worlds greatest rock drummer.

Something Martin doesn't seem to see or maybe he does? is that there was a level of communication and cohesiveness between the original players that can't be replaced. Were they the greatest musicians of all time. No. On many live recordings they had their weaknesses but they had that indescribable something. It's lost forever now.

Great drummer and clearly an intelligent fella. I never understood his exit or the idea he wasn't playing well. Seemed very unfair and inaccurate. Get the impression Ms Hynde is even more difficult than has been reported - the latter part of this is pretty uncomfortable viewing.

premier4 6 Theirs is a mystery for the ages. Chrissie treats Martin like shit, and he’s still there. I thought for sure he was out for good after “Break Up the Concrete,” but there’s even some questions about what really happened. In one interview he said he had no idea they were even making it and that he had been replaced, but then he took it back and said Jim Keltner has his blessing.

@@cubdukat I have met both and the whole evening he was always aware of her presence and how close she was to hearing what we might have been discussing. He is obviously intimidated by her. He struck me as a kind decent person who has to deal with someone who can and is miserable to people around her. Make no mistake she was is the talent and star but I have always thought Martin and his style was key to the sound of the band.

Wow, I cant believe Chrissie Hynde said that on stage about Martin. Quite unprofessional. Very rude. I just got done reading her book, it's pretty good, but I found her to lack feelings towards her friends and particularly her parents. Now, seeing this interview at the end of this video confirms my thoughts about her.

The problem with having someone as explosive a talent as Hynde and her incredible voice is nobody matters to the public at that point. Hynde had the visual and the complete musical package to back it up. I would have immediately looked for another band and taken the sound with me as a drummer. Because sooner or later Hyndes head would swell. I loved these songs but after the story of the 70s corporate music push, it sours the taste.

Rock & Roll is great music but not all of the people who play it well are especially lovable.
