That’s a beautiful custom Martin. I’m a team mahogany guy but that Custom Martin is just perfection. From its aesthetics to its tone its a classic beauty. Great work Cooper. & congrats you get your dream custom Martin guitar. 👍🏻🤘🏻

Very cool, the slot head makes it special, sounds great. Bit of a Martin OM fan myself, retired with; first year OM-18 Authentic (Ambertone pre VTS), Custom Shop OM-28 (Alpine over Madagascar, fine herringbone, 50's burst), 1995 OM-45 TB (Curly Engelmann over Tasmanian Blackwood, Alternate Torch, carved gold tuners). In my 70's, dreads are all gone.....OM's are perfect !!!

This would be my pick of top acoustics. I love Martin and the Indian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce OM has the additional scale length to deliver the punch I like.

Wonderful guitar, really like slot head for same reasons, especially as a finger picker, always wanted a Martin but the style guitar I wanted cost more than my first car so I did without. That changed 2 weeks ago. I got a 000 with the short scale that I like better for my small hands and body. It has the ati- spruce top (but with the new baked wood to make it sound more aged). It has rosewood back and sides. It does not have the slot head. It has 14 frets. I would prefer 12 fret slot head but did not have that option. It does not have some of the cosmetic features that add a lot to the price - but that would have taken it out of my price range. It has the low rounded neck that I require. In the past a v or mod-v was the only option and I can't play those. So I thank the Lord I finally got my first Martin after all these years, with the features I require and at a price I could afford. It is the 00016 Street master.

Huge Martin fan, and absolutely love my HD28, but THAT guitar sounds absolutely incredible. Looks amazing too - but the sound coming out of that guitar is soooo beautiful! Of course, your outstanding playing (…both of you) is part of it, but even in a KZbin video you can tell that the sound from this guitar is truly out of this world! Great job.

Stunning, the smile on Chris's face at 09:09 thru 09:14 says pretty much everything. Very envious of those nine + Cooper who do get to purchase it though.

Top notch instrument. I'm sure that your custom Martin is harmonically balanced throughout the freq.range. As a violinist I can tell you that the spruce that is seasoned for ten years produces the best sounding modern violins. And being spruce the tone limbers more and more with age.

Classical guitar builders tend to modify the bracing to suit the tone. For custom classical guitars, when you order, the choices are Spruce or Cedar. If you want a tone more like Adirondack, the builder will tune the top to get those characteristics. I have two guitars from the same builder. Both spruce tops, but one sounds more like a cedar. The finish is also a vintage tint and everyone who plays it thinks they’re playing a cedar top. I tell them it’s spruce and they don’t believe me. I like the explanations that Chris gives of Sitka and Adirondack, because as a classical guitarist, no one ever talks about it.

I googled you and downloaded some of your music but will admit I am not that big of a country fan, but your stuff was good. I love your style of guitar playing and you have a good voice. Now I need to google Chris and check out his stuff too. I enjoy your posts but one thing: I have to adjust the volume all the time because when you are just talking, your voice is soft. However, does your recording, tell them to adjust it and even out the voice and guitar. I am not saying you sing but your talking voice.

Everything is perfect but the icing is the slotted headstock on a 14th fret guitar. I’ve always liked one, but wasn’t sure if it was acceptable or had a downside to it since we normally see slotted on 12th frets. Now I can sleep peacefully, since Cooper and Chris have endorsed it

Chris - I am so glad you brought up Collings and Santa Cruz guitars. Are Martin Custom shop guitars comparable to them? And when you say "Martin Custom Shop" what does it really mean? Are they handmade? Are they made like Santa Cruz and Collings?
@michaelmenet27122 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, please elaborate a little on Lutz spruce. Is it somewhere between Sitka and Adirondack in terms of hardness...harder than Sitka, but not as hard as Adi? Have you played a Lutz-topped guitar ever, and what did you think? Thanks.

I played a Martin custom shop 000 Adi top and found it to sound too trebly and brittle. Maybe it needed time, but I’d save my $ and go regular Sitka top with just the Adi bracing after that experience if I was going custom. Give me the short scale and sinker back and sides, with a simple 18 style. Splurge on vintage hide glue. Ambertone and blackguard would be my visual upgrade.

Quick question: with all the work you put in to specify the sound of this (impressive) instrument, is there a reason (beyond cost) that made you not add a torrefied top? Thank you.
@AlamoMusic2 жыл бұрын
To be completely honest, there were a couple reasons on my end. First off, I love the crisp white appearance of the non-VTS Adirondack-- it just looks so nice to me. The other reason is that I intend this guitar to be a lifetime instrument for anyone who purchases it, so I like the thought of the Adirondack naturally aging over the years-- changing color, opening up, etc., without the torrefaction. I DO love their VTS tops, but this one just made more sense to me to go natural.
@jDominiqueS2 жыл бұрын
@@AlamoMusic Thank you. Makes sense for the long-term instrument you aim for. Furthermore, while going natural might be perceived as delayed gratification sound-wise, we already know of the longevity of natural wood - maybe less so for torrefied wood (how will torrefied wood sound in 50 years, and does torrefaction do more to the wood than just accelerated aging? I just don't know). In any case, already a great guitar!
@angelg84452 жыл бұрын
@@AlamoMusic Interesting, I have a Custom shop very similar to this one, with addy top(definitely the way to go!), although mine is mahogany b/s and 000 scale. I do think the VTS adds a great open tone, but this u can't go wrong with addy and the Martin Custom shop.

All they said about Adirondack Spruce (only re- available in the last 10 years or so) is true, but would add ( as owner of several guitars spread among AD, Sitka, Cedar and and Alpine tops), if you are looking for less dynamic ( is that a term?) finger picking, AD is not the best choice. It takes more energy to get it vibrating. AD braces add to the stiffness which helps increase the projection. Great design but no aged top ?
@el34glo592 жыл бұрын
I hate aged tops. Also, not true about Adirondack. It can be extremely sensitive if braced lightly and correctly. Also some alpine is stiffer than Addy

Good choice guys. Awesome guitar. I'm trying to find something that matches/beats out the OM-28 Modern Deluxe. I'm needing therapy after almost every time I touch it...just can't put it down. I've never felt/heard a guitar like it. This one (yours) comes close I bet. I got a beautiful Furch OM 34 and another Martin OM cherrry (OME) and an Eastman E20-OO and they are all rocking crowns around almost any other guitars...maybe prince-sized crowns but are pretty royal nonetheless...till the King of the mountain (the OM-28 MD) walks in the room. They all bow to its sublime amazingness

Nicely done Cooper. I prefer the shorter scale 000, Adirondack Vintage Tone System, not sure if you said hyde or protein glue, 12-fret but with a solid head and "Vintage" (soft gloss) finish with either a modified low oval or soft V neck and strap buttons. I might loose some tone but I can't see to thread the high E and B strings on a slotted head. I can use tooth picks on a slotted head but they don't stay in a slotted head. Remember you don't need to see to play guitar and sing. Binding? Fretboard inlays? Thanks Cooper and Chris
