My friend who lives in Longboat Key FL bought this guitar so I would have a guitar to play when I visit. The action was a little high for my liking. The Guy at Sam Ash lowers ed it for me and I fell with this guitar. I own a 1990s HD-28 and a Taylor C214E. There’s something about the sound of this guitar that pleases my ears and is so comfortable to play. I love the all satin feel. I’m still conflicted between this and the GP and the SC13e. The SC model is $650 more. It has a lot to offer. It comes with 11-52 strings and the reviews say it’s got great action which is big requirement for me. Plus you can play lead and chords beyond the 12th fret. It takes time to understand the different models, listen to demos and weigh the features and benefits.

Great video as always guys. These guitars have such a great sound. Even though I've got a d18, this guitar still sounds very nice. I recently played a d13e that was also a very good sounding guitar. Martin can make some very good sounding somewhat inexpensive guitars. Being blind sound is everything to me. I'm sure with some phospher bronze Elixir Medium strings, this guitar would sound even better.

I'm gonna clear up some things for some people, sapele has the same response as mahogany, so you're still getting the same warm feel... Siris is also an alternative for rosewood, even though it is not in the rosewood family it is still a very good wood for the price. Siris also has the same response as rosewood. The D10e and D12e has sapele, the D13e has siris.

I have owned one since they came out and enlarged the sound hole and it booms. No it’s not a D18 or D28 but wil you hear what you want to hear… most likely! I must say that mine did not come setup very well but with a little patience and a few sets of strings it can be a very playable guitar.

thanks for the run down on the model numbers and what not. I actually like knowing that stuff when it comes to options! great guitars for the money. once again martin is one of the only ones that can come in under a grand with solid woods. be careful though and make sure you keep the humidity levels in mind. that sapele is awesome sounding but very thin and i have a crackpot theory that they don't spend a lot of time drying it in order to produce them quickly.

It's actually not only Martin. The Gibson G45 is an all solid wood, US build slope shoulder dread at $990. Better stil the G45 has an all solid wood walnut bridge and fingerboard, where Martin has the Richlite, which I personally dislike.

My D-10E with the MX-T tuner et al ... is pretty great , affordable and reliable . Mine suffers from a shitty tuner , not performance related , but the lcd cover plastic thingy rattles , drives me crazy . Sound wise it's great very balanced , nice really , The neck is nice maybe a little to close to the fret edge on the high E string , and with the dry northern winters it was really susceptible to dryness , leaving it out of the case one night in winter with forced hot air heating really changed it's temperament for the worse . Discovering it the next day I was horrified to find the action really low and the 10th fret area on the high e in particular was buzzing , about a year of humidifying and never leaving it out of its case brought it back, but lesson learned. The sound amplified with the pickups is pretty good , very usable , convenient , the tuner , muh , it's sluggish and so so accurate , but for what it is , it's convenient and usable . Had mine about three years and its a great playing guitar.
@palisicky

Not one night will do that neck warping usually what happens is people put it near a heat source that will mess it up but the neck is hardwood its not because its a martin that its more fragile to weather
@bobco5
@bobco5 2 жыл бұрын
i cut it out , the tuner is merely held on with pressure sensitive adhesive , comes out gingerly , thought of de soldering it , but too much hassle , cut it out and now I can really enjoy the guitar without the associated rattling , which was incredibly annoying , I guess my MX-T tuner portion was just a dud. I prefer to fix things myself and I didn't want another model to replace it , I like the tone just fine , unique to each and every guitar as we know ...

The DRS1 has a Sapelle top the DRS2 uses Spruce. I preferred the DRS2 but dealar had no DRS2's.I bought what was available. I have one of these and also a 000-16GT. After these two guitars I won't be buying another Martin with the Richlite Fingerboard and Bridge. I can play my D-10E next to my D-18 and my 000-16GT next to my 000-18, and you can definitely tell the difference. The Richlite muffles the tone and isn't a very good Fretboard and bridge material, in my and others' opinions. I have even had close friends play both, without giving them my opinion, and they say the same thing. The Richlite muffles or mutes certain tones. Of course Martin will deny this and their Reps keep pushing it, but there is a reason Taylor is still raking in the Lion's Share of the guitar sales. Taylor uses Ebony on every model they produce, whether it's in Mexico or El Cajon. I won't be buying another Martin that has the Richlite junk on it. All Richlite is composed of is compressed recycled PAPER! Martin tried to claim they were taking an 'Environmental Step' by switching, but there isn't a viable company out there that takes an 'Environmental Step' unless it helps their profit margin. It's all about money folks.

roostershooter76, of course it's about money, Martin are merely trying to make their guitars accessible to everyone, plus these make good, affordable road guitars, exactly their purpose. I have the DX1AE equivalent, everyone comments on how good it sounds, however beaten up. Equipped with pick-ups, ideal for playing out rough dives, parties, getting beer spilt over 'em. Makes sense, as long as the SOUND and playability is good. To the other extreme... Besides playing it, Buchanan used his axe in bars, swinging it for self protection.
@Shilling_guitar885
@Shilling_guitar885 5 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you on the Richlite Fret boards. The real Shame is there is alot of ebony cut down in Africa that is left in the forests to rot. When they cut it down and they can see that if it's not black they leave it because the buyers only want black. Golden and brown and mixed colors of ebony are just as hard as the pure black but builders don't want it because of appearance.,I would rather have a streaked color real ebony fretboard than composite pure black. It seems that since they leave the lighter color ebony in the forests it could be purchased for less money and the makers could have a higher quality playing fret board even if not as esthetically pleasing appearance wise.

Youre wrong the 12 and 10 were same in body solid sapele back and sides but 10 is satin finish while 12 is full gloss, the 13's were Siris back n sides in full gloss finish so that's a big difference in tonewoods between 12 ( sapele )and 13 models ( siris ).. you said that while pointing to the 00013e and D12e hhahaha the only difference is only the binding? How about the Body Shape of 000 vs Dread does it look the same to you? Scale on this 00013 is also different it has a short scale vs D12 standard scale, plus they r equipped with different pick guards...
