Martin Garrix/Tiesto-Style Echo Buildup (DJM900 Tip!)

Martin Garrix and other big name festival/EDM DJs have been using this echo effect a lot recently. I'll show you how to do it. It's really as simple as taking an echo effect, and modifying the timing a bit. This works on tons of different gear, but in this video I am using a CDJ2000Nexus and a DJM2000. Let me know if you have found other ways to do this on other gear.

ANY DJM with the echo effect and a time parameter that goes to 1 ms will be able to do this. Try it out!

You can do it with "Flanger Flux" effect on Traktor. Make effect flanger flux about %35 and play with dry/wet

The first time I heard that build-up-effect was in a track by DJ Shredda called Chainsaw. That track was produced in 2001, so this trick is kinda old stuff.

They don't have the time to 1ms, they start a lot higher and crank it to 1ms to get a buildup effect.

Be House Music It's just an HPF, nothing too fancy :p You probably already know this but I'll explain it anyway just in case: On your DJM-900 there's 6 blue buttons on the left of the mixer, tap the one that says "filter" so it starts flickering. Now you just turn the silver knob above the fader of the channel you want to use the effect on to the left :)

i don't really think the time is 1ms. I asked and you start with 1/2 depending on the snare and how fast it is. but usually start with 1/2 and then 1/4 1/8 1/16 until you get to the vocal and of course while getting up the actual effect knob

Many DJs (including me since 2001) have used this effect on the Pioneer DJM-600, which was released in 1999. Martin Garrix was only 3 years old at the time. Therefore, do not associate this effect/trick with his name.

Don't quote me but, I think you have to hook the CDJ's up to a router then into the mixer

this is why u should get a denon mixer cos pioneer is very limited, db2 allen and heath 2 fx engines add a trans or cutter effect with a flanger and u are there sounds awesome better than this anyways cos it helps the build up to be cutted then when the drop comes all effects off

You need the pioneer cdj 2000 and djm 900 skin on virtual dj and that skin will enable all the features the cdj and djm has
