I bought a GPC 16E in Rosewood from Music Villa last year. Love it! The playability and comfort is fantastic. The sound is distinctly Martin and when plugged in it is a chameleon that will satisfy a variety of tastes and playing styles. Get one! You won’t regret it!

So close, Rosewood just a little more rich sounding to my ear but I’d happily play either.

Playing for 60 years. For many years preferred rosewood. Then bought a Collings OM1 Hog. Now, I prefer Hog. Sounds a little more airy, with very balanced tone. Not boomy.

Whew! There is a difference, but certainly not profound. Rosewood = richer, more soothing sound. Mahogany = crisper, cleaner sound. The obvious answer = buy both (you know you want too). Another entertaining and informative demo.

I do. God damnit. I do want both! And I thought collecting watches was going to be the end of me. Little did I know it would be guitars

Between the two, I prefer the Rosewood and actually was in the market for one of these GPC-16s and bought the rosewood. However, I also have a Guild D4NT Dread in Mahogony. I kind of have best of both worlds. I'm lucky. Great video.

You could have strummed some to hear tone woods and that big rear bell size boom out.

Both sound great and close to the same on my decent speakers. What a great decision to have to make. How can you go wrong? But I've never been sorry I chose Rosewood.

You need to please start plugging the electronics up for evaluation. If it's a "stage instrument" this is critical.

Very nicely done Paul & Quinton. Both banter and playing. Great examples of Mahogany & Rosewood sounds. What makes this so good is that the soundboards (the spruce tops) sound very comparable making it easy to pick out the differences in tonal quality and dynamic range of the back and sides. Thank you both, very much.

Very close in sounds, I do think the rosewood is a bit more scooped, a tad more low yet the hog has more in the middle, maybe low mid. Seems a tad fuller/ stronger for projecting in a mix. But it's not night and day. Probably the top has more influence and that's why they are so similar
@Purple_Pixel2 жыл бұрын
I thought I would like the Rosewood better, but the Mahogany is sweeter sounding. Sounds are very similar due I guess to similar construction.

Slight edge to Rosewood model. A little more chimey and low end , but not overpowering like their dreadnoughts.

I probably prefer the Mahogany, it has a more "grown" tune, however the rosewood seems more refined. Lovely played, yet again really liked the finger pick play 👍🙏

A good comparison of these 2 woods. I like the D-16E (maybe that will be my next acoustic). I wasn't sure how much difference there would be between mahogany and rosewood. Both sound pretty similar to me; I could easily live with either one.

I have the 00015m all mahogany and this gpc16 rosewood. I think the mahogony 15 is far more of that crisp twangy sound than this one. However when playing high strings its night and day. This rosewood puts a noticeable gap between the two. I like playing old woodie guthrie and johnny cash type stuff so mahogony is more in my hands. That being said whwn i break out a newer sound further up the neck the mahogony cant keep up. I love them both but rosewwod imo is noticeably better unless your fingerpicking bluegrass type of stuff

I was getting ready to buy the 000-15m streetmaster, and then I was introduced to the gpce-16e in rosewood. Just bought the GPC, mostly bc the 000 was not at the store and I liked the look of the GPC (sunburst top)... Also liked the tuner and built-in electronics..
@Brynden-Rivers2 жыл бұрын
Bobby Thomas yea the pickups are nice also. It really thumps. Also can great great brightness out of the high strings for an accoustic. Very few accoustics can match the high and low end of this guitar.

Just got one of these from Guitar Center used for $750!! Best deal I've ever found in my life. Basically has a small cosmetic scuff on the front, so massively reduced in price. Guitar is incredible, same ambertone finish. Simply beautiful in sound and appearance.

I am looking to buy the Taylor 214E or a Martin GP-16E. I love the Grand Performance or the Grand Auditorium shape, (love Dread as well just bit big for me). However, I dont want the cutaway. Electronic/Acoustic of course in a GA or GP shape and size. I notice that Martin or Taylor do not seem to have many GA or GP models in the non cutaway versions? Or, am I wrong? I can go with either Rosewood back and sides or Mahogany. Prefer the look of Mahogany but would accept either.
@matthewreid618 Жыл бұрын
214 is laminate back and sides. I’d rather have a solid wood Martin for the same price.
@noodler29792 жыл бұрын
I have the Rosewood and I'm going to try and sell it, it lacks boom and sounds very weak unplugged. Plugged in I like it but I think I can spend a little less and get the same with a less expensive Taylor or Martin GPC13 .
@cooloutac Жыл бұрын
Rosewood has more Bass that's what matters most to me lol. Also more note separation between lows and highs probably ly better for vocals. The mahogany probably better for strumming with more balance though. And it's louder.

I absolutely love these guitars, and have often considered getting one, but for some reason Martin always gives a gig bag instead of a solid case. Just a weird choice to me when the 15 series has a solid case and costs less.
@lowellcalavera60453 жыл бұрын
So...a case being provided is your final criteria for buying a guitar? Interesting.
@JoeandAngie2 жыл бұрын
Yesterday ours came with the best gig bag. A cross between a soft and hard shell case. Quite good. My sons 74 SG, broke neck when it fell.over in a chainsaw case! They're kinda supposed to break, I think!

And the real winner is the GPC-11e. All solid wood that gets mahogany tone with a dash of the Rosewood upper end shimmer. Sounds just as good for much less cost.
@juujuubees3793 жыл бұрын
I had the GPC 11e for 3 weeks but returned it to guitar center after seeing and playing a GPC 16e at a local Martin dealer. The 11 is a very good guitar but cant compete with the sound and playability of the 16e, it was worth the extra 850.
@thetruth10243 жыл бұрын
@@juujuubees379 The only real difference is the wood and the forward shifted bracing. Sapele vs. Mahogany vs. Rosewood is a matter of preference.
@juujuubees3793 жыл бұрын
@@thetruth1024 That's a lot plus ebony neck and bridge and I owned both I would know. I wouldn't return the 11 if there wasn't a huge difference and there is its night and day in the sound projection resonance and clarity and simply the feel the 16 feels so much more premium and even more of a pleasure to play. The 11 is good the 16 is incredible. .

Paul. If you're just gonna sit there, and flail when asked a pertinent question about the guitar under discussion, you should hire a hot chick to do it.
@dvanolya Жыл бұрын
What Paul needs to do is learn the specs on the guitar he’s presenting. Here’s the dealer himself promoting a guitar he knows almost nothing about. He does this all the time. Good videos but it’s time to do your homework, Paul!
