Of course my beloved elderly instruments would have the best review and explanation of the hd-28. I'm Proud To Live just a few blocks away from elderly instruments. The place is more holy than most churches.

I love those. I've had mine since 1992.

That was a great video and insight into these guitars, I was going around other sites to try and figure out what the H stood for and you immediately revealed it. Thanks

I ordered one from my local Sam ash and I’m dying to get my hands on it. I played the reimagined D28 so I’m excitied to see how the scalloped bracing compares

i just bought one with LR baggs, my first acoustic guitar, beautiful sound and look.❤

It’s the guitar that stopped me from buying a used Taylor that was beautiful looking and nice sounding. That guitar’s sound shook me.

I've played a lot of them. I don't think there is a more versatile guitar than the HD-28....rock, bluegrass...finger, strum or flatpick......soft, or booming cannon. I have others for different sounds, but if forced to keep one....well, you know.

I gotta try a HD35 before I buy another 28. I like loud powerful acoustics and never got to try the HD35 before. Even more lighter braced than the HD28. It used 1/4 braces that are also scalloped and forward shifted too. I guess about as lightly braced as you can possibly get a Martin D in.

Great video. The present-day Martins are, I think, among the best they've ever built. What will they sound like after fifty years or so? Will they equal the sound and tone of the 1939 - 1944 dreadnoughts, I wonder?
@ElderlyInstruments6 ай бұрын
Great question! While we can't be sure, today's Martins are indeed built with top-notch craftsmanship and materials, so they have a good chance of aging beautifully, just like the iconic dreadnoughts from the '30s and '40s. Only time will tell, but we're pretty optimistic!

Nice sounding new HD28...Did this have the Martin Authentic Acoustic MA550T treated med. P.B. strings? What pick were you using here Joe..Really made that HD-28 sound great.

Good review but I have gripes with some things they do. First, they rout a channel through the top from the dovetail to install a more accessible truss rod which weakens the top in possibly the most critical area. To fix this they put a mahogany shelf on the neck block to strengthen the top under the fret board extension. Second, they now put a nut on standard models that have a flat bottom instead of the traditional angle that is the same as the peg head angle. other really good guitar makers also install truss rods but they don't cut through vital areas which then need to be strengthened as a result. The flat bottom nut not only looks like something on a Gibson, it changes the way the string pressure is distributed at the peg head. Don't get me wrong, I have always loved Martin's contribution to guitar making, but to cut corners it seems like they sometimes take one step forward(a return to some vintage appointments)but then take two steps back.

ATTN..Lets be clear..The D28 is the flagship not the HD 28 even though the HD is the early D28 the reason you know all of the older rock and roll and folk song sounds that is the D28 is because it recorded better and did not get lost in the mix live.That sweet midrange that gets over come by the bigger bass.I made a huge mistake passing by deals over the years because I THOUGHT I wanted a HD 28...I finally ended up with the D28 for the style I play because I grew up hearing it..The HD28 IS ABSOLUTELY AWESOME for blue grass although with the millennials listing to that rap shit and new pop crap with any hot girl with a Taylor in her hand singing someone else's written lyrics this is probably falling on deaf ears...Great video thanks.

I love my hd28 But i always play the d18 I don’t like the Taylor

@@marcusfinn759 That's interesting. Why do you play the D18 rather than the HD28? Interested because I have a HD28.

I’d be willing to bet the hd28 isn’t on some of those songs because they didn’t exist until 1976. Different strokes for different folks. I love recording with mine.

I have a 2001 D35 It has that bold base sound also. I don't understand why Blue Grass Pickers don't like the D35 over the D28. They are missing out on a great sound.

I have an HD-28 from 1989 but I never picked up a bad D-35.
@chrishyde121610 ай бұрын
I have a HD28 but was considering the D35. The D35 has narrower bracing rather that scalloped. Always best to compare them in the shop as each guitar is different. Sometimes I'd prefer the D35 and other times the HD28. More recently I've tried a D18 and, with hindsight, should have compared the HD28/D35 with that. I might have bought the D18.
