Great sounding Martin with a damn good picker behind it. Just bought a hd28V 2009 model mint shape . It’s sounds great to . Just hard to beat most Martin guitars

Hello Jeffery Many thanks for the kind words. The only other guitar that I have played that just made my jaw drop... was the “Santa Cruz-Vintage Artist Model”. It was listed for around $6,000 at the time and it had $6,000 worth of sound to it... but my wallet didn't have that sound. LOL Your Martin HD28V is also one sweet guitar. I've played those as well and they have a sound that will turn a head and have people asking about it. Keep picking and thanks so much for visiting The Bluegrass Farmer Channel !!

@@thebluegrassfarmer I used to own a 2000 Santa Cruz Vintage Artist that I bought in 2010 for $3100, ,with rosewood back and sides not Mahogany like most Vintage Artists. It was a killer dred and very light..It beat out all the Martin at Elderly's in Lansing, Mi at that time..I wish I would have kept it

Nice pick'n and sing'n and great guitar... I have a D18 and love it but still saving up for a beauty like yours.

Hello Kip.. D-18 ? That is ONE sweet guitar now. If I was going to buy another guitar (which I need one like a hole in the head) I'd consider a D-18 myself. I've played those and just really like the sound out of them. So hang on to it IF you get another piece of wood. You can't go wrong with a 18 now. Thanks for the comment and for stopping by !!!

Outstanding tone and playing, so effortlessly looking on the flatpicking. Im wondering if you have done any work to make it appear so effortlessly noting? I bought my HD28LSV new in 2000. It has opened up some but sounded great from the git go. Took me awhile to adjust to the mod V neck, but my carpal tunnel wrist surgery later was what allowed me to appreciate that neck. Play it for hours at a time now. I think 1500 or so were made before the discontinue. Im curious why most buyers were attracted to the LSV. I ordered mine without knowing what they can do. It was the 1 3/4 inch nut width I needed. Kind of a harder guitar to come by these days. Glad I bought it for sure. Great picking, and strumming too, as you have shown. I like how it fades like a piano's voice after strumming a chord. Keeping mine for good.

Hello Michael !! First off, thank you for the wonderful comment and history about your LSV. You no doubt have a instrument that will not only last a lifetime, but will also become an investment over time. You are correct. Martin Guitar only made a around 1500 to 1700 of these types of guitars before they moved on to the “Clarence White Edition”. I must say... the LSV out performers the Clarence White Edition (in my opinion) for I have played several of them. The volume with the LSV is MUCH stronger and brighter. The LSV was a very popular guitar back in the day (as you know) and what drove me to get one was the “sound”. Crisp, loud, mid-range was great and the V-Neck felt good. It had it all in on package. Later on, I will feature another “Martin Guitar” that I own that is a very close 2nd to me in sound and play ability. But again, my thanks to you for watching the channel and for the comment. Keep on keeping on with that Martin and enjoy it. You got one fine piece of wood for sure. -The Bluegrass Farmer

Thank you for the reply. I too like the LSV for the crisp sound as you mentioned. Also it's ability to allow me to really dig in the strings for more volume and presence while flatpicking. The last comment made by a unhappy LSV owner is partially correct to me. First off "flat picking" is the best approach on mine as finger style picking just doesn't bring out the volume or color the LSV is capable of. IMHO. My LSV is at Martin factory right now waiting to be fitted with a custom neck that will have the same dimensions of the 1937 D-18 authentic (minus some of the slight V past the 7th frett or so), and with HD-28LSV appointments it came with. I bought a 2022 1937 D-18 Authentic and that big neck has become my favorite of all necks. For the LSV, I just can't control my hand well while it's on that modified V neck it came with. I will be looking forward to playing the LSV when it comes back from Martin with my preferred neck shape. Happy Pick'n!

what year is your HD28LSV (is it a 2003 or 2002)? I used to own a great one that I purchased from Elderly instruments in 2012...it was a 2002 It was one of the best sound/tone Martins I have owned. Dry/woody/vintage tone..even though it had a 1-3/4" nut which I don't like, it played like butter.
@thebluegrassfarmer3 жыл бұрын
Hello Bill... It's a 2003 model.

@@thebluegrassfarmer I have played the HD28LSV made prior to 2001 with the Adirondack tops, and I liked the 2001 and up with the Sitka tops better for tone and balance..sweet sounding Martin with that Tony Rice type tone.

What flat pick and thickness are you using here?

I use the Jim Dunlop Primetone - Semi Rounded (Sculpted Plectra) picks. The thickness is 1.3mm Nothing fancy at all... but I do love the feel and sound they give when playing.

@@thebluegrassfarmer didn't you lose volume when you went from standard medium P.B. such as Martin sp to MTR13?
@thebluegrassfarmer3 жыл бұрын
@@billdedrick1914 Not that I can really tell. I'm hard on strings. When I play in (a stage setting) I'm pretty forceful on my strums and then when it comes time to take the lead part... I lean in pretty heavy and "bear down". So, I let the pick and my right hand do the volume for me. I might do a video one day showing just how I do that with my right hand.

I went and bought that very same guitar, sounded awesome in the store. It had a built in undersaddle pickup with the Mic combo. Like I said it sounded awesome in the store, but when I got it home and started playing with the band the only way you know I was playing was my arm moving. I was so disappointed, I sold it for 2000.00 and went and bought a regular HD28. The LSV couldn't hold the regular HD28 a light to go by. I lost a lot of money on it, but I wouldn't take twice that much for my HD28. Definetly a dissatisfied customer.

Hello Frank!! Guess I got lucky on mine. It's a HOSS of a piece of wood. I call it a "banjo killer" its loud. However... I do have a Martin HD28 as well and it has a totally different sound than the LSV, but I do like the sound of my HD28 too. It has a deeper more of a mellow sound than the LSV. Hang on to that HD28. You cannot beat those HD28's at all. They are no doubt, one fine piece of wood. Thanks for the comment. Thanks for watching the video and keep pickin'. TBGF

They're definetly not all created equal. But when you find the one for you, it's a blessing. My uncle bought a D42 years ago and you couldn't hear it setting right beside him. Martin guitars are definetly my favorite, but just like automobiles you can find a lemon. But no two pieces of wood have the same resonance.
@thebluegrassfarmer Жыл бұрын
@@frankcline66 Brother you nailed it. No two instruments are the same. Plus, it's all matter of "taste" as to sound, notation, feel, plus many other things. However, when you find that ONE you like... it's with you for the rest of your life and soon becomes a very close friend. Keep on pickin' !!!! TBGF
