@@user-hp6ls8qy6dOn the surface it makes sense. Sadly he can say more as a lone critic, than he could as a politician. Because he'd have to stand for election, most likely as an independent. And for no other reason than being independent, he wouldn't get enough votes. The people will have shot themselves in the foot, for the umpteenth time. We deserve what we get, because we can't be bothered to think. Something Martin talks about, eg filling in forms, in this video.

Absolutely spot on. The root cause of all these price issues are greedy shareholders and year on year extortionate bosses bonuses. We are about to see the same happen with the water companies when one gets allowed to raise it's prices by over 50%, then the others will follow. Just like banks with interest rates.

People, in general, are stupid. Big companies know this and exploit it. Mr. Lewis is clearly very smart, intelligent and gifted. It takes someone like him to educate the masses. He's one of those that is different in his thought processes. He questions things, disruptive and annoying to others, but highly beneficial to us. Keep.it up. I was the same at school and work, always questioned things. It got me into trouble, a lot. But I'm happier for it.

If the cost per unit to buy is 8-10 pence by the billing companies, how can they get away with charging 25p a unit??? We are been ripped off 2.5 times to 3 times the cost. Rip off Britain
@Longlostpuss
@Longlostpuss 8 күн бұрын
It's not the billing companies who are actually buying the fuel though is it? Besides that, like any other product, there is a wholesale and a retail price. Just because it costs 8-10 pence to buy wholesale energy, by the time you add in the costs of maintenance for power stations, fuel lines and the service for the companies who bill you, this has to be reflected somewhere in the final rates charged. You need to understand what a gross rate is and a net rate, everyone still has to be paid to do a job in the process of receiving your energy. Now the real argument for me comes with the standing charges first, not the rates. The standing charges are the part that I think is questionable, because the rates already technically encompass all the expenses, so in effect the standing charge is charging everyone all over again.

@jamesbarbour8400
@jamesbarbour8400 7 күн бұрын
@@Longlostpuss supposedly the standing charge is to pay for maintenance of the network, whether that be water, gas or electric. Very soon, we'll be paying even more, to cover the costs/fines levied on water suppliers who let sewage into the clean water system ie rivers and the like. They certainly won't be paying said fines out of their own pockets - we'll be the ones on the hook for that ! Basically, the money that was supposed to be channelled towards network upkeep, and prevent instances of untreated sewage entering the clean water system, has gone towards either the CEO's own pockets and/or to shareholders !

They will say look we have a cheaper rate at so and so time, but like most things people will change behaviour and try to use energy at the cheaper time,s . BUt guess what they will use Ai attuned to your usage, so as you change your times when cooking or heating the system will change the tarrifs to get you again!. YOU WILL NEVER EVER WIN THEY WIN AND IN THIS GAME YOU MUST LOOSE!. The less you use the more they will charge ,its already happening even if you dont use any energy standing charge ripoff is here to stay. Now compare that to say the 50,s or 70,s or 60,s or 80,s there was also no VAT OR SERVICE CHARGE on energy!, and that my dear mugs is why the government wont do anything. Heating and lighting, like food and clean water are basic life needs. Companies selling these goods should have excess profits taxed off them, they are profiteering whilst causing ill health, misery and early death to the population. And the profits they make go into the pockets of Directors and shareholders. The Government must act, tax excess profits from these companies.

There was a loan broker that advertised in newspapers that for a fee would garuntee finding customers a loan or their money back. The catch was the customers with poor credit scores were offered loans with huge interet rates. So when the customer refused the offer. The company kept their finders fee. Diliberatly targeting the poor for their last few pounds.

I dont trust my current energy supplier, Octopus, because I personally feel that, in my opinion, they are obscuring data. I was previously with Shell energy, and I was very pleased with them. They pro ided an in home display that showed my real-time energy use for both gas and electric. I could select either kwh or actual cost. Octopu in home display won't display the real-time data for gas claiming it's not possible? Well, it was with Shell, and I'm sorry that Shell took the decision to pull out. I've recently had a new high efficiency combi fitted and can't see in real time how it's performing.

Octopus have and IHD, I had one. However, I signed up for a free Home Mini and can view my use via the Octopus app, updates every 5 seconds, and look at data from the last year. Go sign up for one. I also had Octopus install a heat pump in August. It is fantastic. Cost me £2500 all in. We're now a gas free household and loving it. Saving me a fortune. All the best.

@edwardbyard6540 Hi again, I put my details into Octopus energy heatpump quote and it returned this answer "Thanks so much for your interest in a heat pump! Unfortunately, based on the details you've given us, it doesn't look like we can install a heat pump for you at the moment. We look at a number of factors including your home's size, location, and heat loss to make this determination." Fortunately I don't require one, my A2A is doing a great job especially as my house is on the large size. It's interesting though that Octopus on this occasion turned me down as my homes EPC rating is a B due to the work I've already done with insulation double glazing, low energy lighting, appliances solar pv system and batteries? Curious really don't you think.

Martin starded firing up at one point and was asked about what makes him fire up like that, he calmed himself for all of 3 seconds and continued to steadily to wind himself up even more. It's like watching myself - I get so carried away on those subjects - the unbelievable nerve of the greedy corporations and the never ending cycle of dumbing down the society and ripping them off.. If I stard discussing it with someone, I will reach the same level. Very quickly.

Energy companies should all be removed from the market. They're just intermediary businesses buying wholesale energy from the generation companies. It makes energy more expensive for the consumer before you. It needs total reform for the new age of dynamic pricing. And all incentives scrapped as well. Make sure that the generation companies have to compete to sell the energy rather than getting cushy deals that protect them rather than the consumer.

"Injustice by design" that's one heck of a powerful quote, and you can relate it to so many aspects of society nowadays. Everything Martin Lewis says here should be a big part of the curriculum in business schools. Maybe then things won't be so fucked and crooked, especially when people need those services the most like during Winter. For example, taking away the Winter fuel allowance from British elderly whilst giving shit loads of money to illegal immigrants is not good practise and will have a lasting imprint of distrust towards energy companies and government. FFS that's vile. Another example is that illegal immigrants get more support than British homeless. "Caring should start at home".

The problem as I see it though... I never would trust a corporation anyway because their job is literally to make as much profit for their shareholders as they can. We have two systems to protect the public from the energy companies price gouging; Westminster and Ofgem. Where the system is falling down is, our parliament is full of bought and paid for MP's and the same with Ofgem. They are both shielding and supporting the energy companies not the consumers. Together they have - sold off our North Sea gas - removed our gas storage facilities - added a "Green Tax" on our energy bills literally to give energy companies so they can make MORE money. (Imagine the government forcing a 3% tax on Amazon to help them build a warehouse!!) - failed to create new nuclear power stations to safeguard our supply - instead of forcing the energy companies to lower their prices, the government threw our tax payer money at them "to bail us out!!" - and you have Ofgem literally whipping the energy prices up every winter when everyone needs it and bringing them down in the summer - even our wind and solar power is contracted abroad with high tariffs agreed at the onset, Danish, Swedish, German, Norwegian. Nobody in power is looking after the people anymore, its all about corporate greed and greedy politicians trying to line their nests. The whole lot are disgusting.

I feel I was forcibly sold an endowment mortgage when I really favoured a repayment mortgage but I was young and naive and really regret not putting my foot down! Why was this a thing? Did many others have the same experience as me (in the early 90s)? Is there a way of addressing this? In all honesty I can’t recall if it was NatWest themselves or an independent mortgage advisor who put the pressure on, possibly the latter.

Ofgem and the energy companies do not care about people who are disabled or are struggling. None including Ofgem have done their s149 EQA 2010 PSED duty. Simple things like meter reading (smart meters are not the answer due to drop outs in information transfer) on a regular basis so that huge surpluses or debts occur. Sending bills in both electronic and paper formats is an impossibility for these companies. Refunds if you account is in significant credit becomes subject to company policy. The government and energy companies don't care about vulnerable people and government won't. They are as bad.

Politicians are incredible when it comes to trust. They totally believe what they say and listen to from a microscopic number of people some in their own minds. 1.5million homes in 5 years….. so that’s 1 house every 2 minutes without a break for 5 years. And they all believe it. 5% cut in government spending? That’s £60 Billion quid or 19 Trillion paperclips to stop using.

Its all well and good going for these energy companies & politicians or what have you, but I also think the problem lies within the financial ignorance of the general public. I find it quite scary the amount of people who don't know what a pension is or even where their pension is held, or billions of pounds being parked in current accounts accumulating absolutely no interest. I understand public schools failed us in this regard but people could live way less miserable lives if they just took a bit of time to become somewhat financially literate

The issue with majority of Britains, would rather spend their money on quick fixes or waste their money on subscription based services or finance things for the short term, which over the year builds up and reduces their monthly income quite a bit. Instead of looking to invest their money for the long term, our future. We would find ourselves free from these systems that are designed to screw us. It’s hard short to do this because you don’t feel the benefits straight away. Lockdown screwed me, made redundant, no UC or furlough funding, wiped my savings out keeping on top of things, made me realise I need to change my attitude. Now I don’t get things on tick, I invest into long term investments, I’ve cleared that debt by cutting all luxuries. Otherwise I know, I know I won’t be able to survive in the future with costs going up and salaries staying as they are.
