I was a freshman at UCLA in April 1965. I was present to hear Dr. King's address. He was inspiring. I earned my bachelor's degree and MBA at UCLA, his speech helped me understand how important it was to complete my education. I was one of no more than 100 black students at UCLA in 1965 out of more than 25,000 students at the time. I thought he was speaking to me personally. Today, as people all over the world remember the work of this wonderful man, is a great time to listen to this speech again.

How wonderful to be able to hear this. Three years later, when Dr. King was tragically murdered, I was a freshman at UCLA, and I remember older students talking about having attended this 1965 speech, and how moved they were by it. I knew then that I would love to have heard it. I only had to wait 47 years! Thank you, archivists!

No doubt, this man was a true man of the people. You can tell by how much he terrified those in power, and everything they did in an effort to destroy him. Today, King has been turned into a Santa Claus type figure, a warm and cuddly man who fought for racial equality. The truth is, he was a revolutionary. He spoke out against the war, and he did so more eloquently and powerfully than anyone, in my opinion. He knew that economic struggles would be what matters in the future, and he fought for all of us in that regard, not just African Americans.

Its unacceptable that in a country as rich as this one one child goes hungry wo shelter health care.If we progress some day they'll look back on this period and ask what the hell as wrong with those people.Plenty of food and someone is hungry.

We need this mans knowledge and understanding of society in our de facto expression. How do we get this message to where it needs to be? this is something we have to figure out as a nation. Every race, color and creed of this nation has to pull together to figure it out. Americans have the resources to do it. Dr. King set the plan in motion and although he's not here we have to figure it out on our own as best we can.

As one of the attendees, there needs be some clarification of the dynamics of this speech. Per the Daily Bruin, the student body agreed to pay the entourage a cash stipend (I believe it was $5000) with the caveat that no additional funds would be solicited at the event. After the event, however, hats were passed. The Daily Bruin was not amused.

What was the American religious impulse of Dr. King’s message? o King had faith that "the sacred heritage of our nation and the eternal will of God" could reform white America through the nonviolent Civil Rights Movement. o A point to consider is to contrast the respective aims and means of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. to evaluate the possibilities for black American progress in the 1960s. o Despite the political gains of the 1960s, Black Nationalist militancy continued to gather strength, mainly because social and economic discrimination persisted. Beginning in the summer of 1965, following riots in the Watts section of Los Angeles, urban unrest became endemic to many northern black communities. The Watts riot exploded when a seemingly routine traffic stop erupted into violence. The riot lasted six days and left thirty-four dead and more than one thousand injured. Persistent racism was certainly one cause of the riots, but so was the civil rights movement’s strategic decision not to address urban poverty. The “long hot summers” continued throughout the late 1960s after Dr. King’s assassination; and, as a result, the militant Black Power movement emerged in strength.

When Martin Luther King was assassinated by order of LBJ, it was not because he 'King' was a gifted leader and speaker, it was because they feared him more than they loathed him, and, most of all King was a true minister of the Gospel of God who did not depend upon the political environment of the day, the professors, lawyers and doctors opinions to define right and wrong. With the popularity and influence Martin Luther King had and still has by the life he lived, if he had run for any elected office, he would have won by a landslide. What we know now about the corruption & deep state that was well established before 1960 would concur with the the suggestion that LBJ ordered the murder of President Kennedy, Senator Robert Kennedy, Martin Luther King, members of the Warren Commission and no telling how many more, just to stay in power and continue to feed the globalists oligarchy and the military industrial complex. John Fitzgerald Kennedy was in the process of ending the war in Indonesia when he was assassinated. Lyndon Johnson used the false flag even in the Tonkin Gulf as an excuse to escalate that war out for years longer.
