I'm a middle aged white guy. We don't always get it, do we? But I do. I know I do. I had a friend and coworker who would sit, and we'd talk. He really conveyed the weight of the humiliations black people suffered from white people during Jim Crow. One time he told me how he was this young, tall, strong, upright soldier wearing his pressed uniform with all his medals on his chest, recently returned from serving his country in Korea. He looked good, he felt good. He was proud and happy. He was riding home. When the bus stopped in Texarkana, two police boarded and forced him to the back of it. They treated him with contempt, like he was worthless, and his pride and happiness were replaced by all the feelings one can imagine that would come with being treated so iniquitously. He told me a harder story than that, too, about his father. Herb made me think of how I would feel if, when I was a child, I had to witness my father, whom I loved, being mistreated, and his spirit being ground down by so many inescapable, occasional, random, and daily injustices. So, when I saw your comment here relating your service and your mistreatment, of course I thought of Herb. I'm so sorry you and your family were treated that way. Thank you for your service. Rest in peace, Herb.

I was serving in the U.S.Army in Vietnam in 1968 when Dr. King was assassinated and we brothers and Hispanics refused to get on any helicopters that would take us into battle; we were angry. He was talking about Americas real history back then, this country needs too wake up and start teaching our children the truths about the right things that have made this country a great one but the wrongs that this country has done in the past must be told.

What happened to actually preaching! Today's gospel is so polluted and watered down.😢 King expressed the power of God and spoke the Truth despite people's feelings, he didn't just tickle people's ears. The Lord Jesus wasn't afraid to call out the truth to men. And they crucified him for it. Rest in Glory Dr King
