The best sermon I’ve ever heard on why Luther was wrong. As a protestant I now see the error of sola fide and “once saved always saved.” Thank God for the truth preserved in the Catholic teachings.

Thank you for this explanation, Father. I was raised in strict Lutheranism and if you dared become a Catholic no relatives would speak to you at reunions...not even a hello. Very pro Luther and so mixed up. Such a relief to escape all that. So glad to have the Faith and St. Therese.

Luther I think possibly started out with good intentions but by the end he was lost. He authored a book called "on the Jews & their lies" an anti-semetic book in which he advocated things like burning down of homes , synagogues and even schools. I guess he was angry with them because they refused to be converted. Google the dark side of Martin luther if you want to know more but be prepared it totally shatters his image.

Decades ago, I wanted to find out who Martin Luther had been, so I got three biographies from the library, one by a Catholic, one by a Lutheran, and one by a secular historian. The one big thing that stuck with me was that, when his own disciples broke off from his teachings and started their own churches, he was furious. He had based his theology on the idea that each man could discern the truth, in essence be a mini-magisterium of one. But then he expected his followers to accept HIS version of truth as definitive! It showed, right from the start, the path the Protestant Reformation would go, with churches splitting and splitting again and splitting yet again. I've heard there are somewhere between 30K and 48K different denominations, each one with a human founder who is absolutely sure he (or she) knows exactly what the rest got wrong.

Id sugest setting up an appointment for your first confession and let them know its for your first confession. Theyll know it may take a bit. Father Chris mentions confession many times throughout this series going into detail several times. One episode is devoted to confession. Confession is both very simple and, not complicated per say but a lot of things can go into helping you give a good confession and he explains all of this without it beeing dry, dull and causing you to go to sleep he actually makes it entertaining to a degree.

I truly enjoyed this Father Chris. I’m not a Catholic yet, but I know the Lord will work things out in His time and in His way. I felt so encouraged about St Theresa. Sometimes, when we can’t do big things for God, we struggle with guilt, but we forget that little is much when God is in it. If you could say a prayer for my spouse. I’d love for him to listen to this if he will. Oh how I pray the Lord will help him to see the need for conversion. We love the Lord with all of our hearts, and we’re doing the best we can with the help of the Holy Spirit to follow Christ. I just pray the Lord will help him see how much we need to join the Catholic Church as a family.

In June 2021, a team of U.N. special rapporteurs for the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) criticized the Vatican, pointing to persistent allegations that the Catholic Church had obstructed and failed to cooperate with domestic judicial proceedings in order to prevent accountability for abusers and compensation for victims.There are still many cases of sexual abuse of children by priests, nuns, and other members of religious life in the Catholic Church. In the 20th and 21st centuries, the cases have involved many allegations, investigations, trials, convictions, acknowledgement and apologies by Church authorities, and revelations about decades of instances of abuse and attempts by Church officials to cover them up. The abused include mostly boys but also girls, some as young as three years old, with the majority between the ages of 11 and 14. Criminal cases for the most part do not cover sexual harassment of adults. Many of these cases allege decades of abuse, frequently made by adults or older youths years after the abuse occurred. Cases have also been brought against members of the Catholic hierarchy who covered up sex abuse allegations and moved abusive priests to other parishes, where abuse continued, and continues to this day.
@DivineMercy_Official
@DivineMercy_Official Жыл бұрын
If you are referring to the problems, which have happened, but those problems are by far not just a "Catholic problem." Please see the Jenkins study from Penn State and the John Jay report. They have proven that 85% of abuse happens in the home, 14% in public schools and extracurricular activities, and only 1% happens in religious institutions, of which the Catholic Church is in the bottom half. Granted, there should be zero and none is to be tolerated, but please know the facts. God bless.

@@DivineMercy_Official . You people will do or say anything to excuse your priests, rationalize their behavior, turn a blind eye. The pope and archbishops are still doing the same thing. In other civic institutions, denominations, professions there is a legal requirement to report such criminality to the authorities. I used to be in the Anglican clergy, in fact I was a Cathedral and diocesan Dean twice. Upon my retirement I became Catholic and expressed interest in becoming a Catholic priest. I was interested enough to talk to the local Ordinary about it. He told me that there was a stiff requirement of all his clergy they report any allegations, accusations, or rumors directly to him, the Bishop, then maintain silence about it. I responded that I surely would, but that I would also report any such matter to the police. He immediately refused to discuss my vocational possibilities in the Church any further, and actually questioned how I had become a Catholic at all (I actually taught the catechism at a Jesuit parish high school). Recently its been reported that a recent "report" had underestimated the number of children abused by Catholic clergy in the Archdiocese of Chicago by 1000s, and the number of abusive clergy by the hundreds. The actual number of filthy, perverted, demonic priests in that Archdiocese is estimated by persons familiar with the mileau to be about 50%, not 5%. (And parents have been complicit for generations!) "According to an extensive study produced by John Jay College for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, about 4 percent of priests in ministry from the study period (1950-2002) were accused of sexual abuse." NOTA BENE: "...only about 4% were ACCUSED..." And the number of incidents that go unreported through parental fear of hell, ostracization, or simple moral cowardice is probably at least TEN TIMES that amount. Witness the houses for unwed mothers' orphan children in Ireland where secret cemeteries of unmarked graves were found of thousands of tiny children that were MURDERED by nuns and various "religious" (I use the term advisedly!) And just this past year its been discovered there have been wild homosexual orgies IN THE VATICAN ITSELF yet the current pope says and does nothing about this, except make a statement that "homosexual behavior is not a sin"(!). And this is 500+ years after Luther denounced the filth that is Rome! And from California earlier this year we get "Church Sex Scandal Widens: Hundreds More Catholic Clergy Accused Across California" www.nbcbayarea.com/investigations/clergy-abuse-scandal-investigation/3162757/?amp=1

May God Bless you for putting this together. I’m sure it took a lot of time to do this. I shared it with my father who led my family as a child into Protestantism. It was a difficult time in my life. I went to Catholic school through 7th grade and then they pulled me out. My mom who was originally a Southern Baptist would attack my Catholic Faith. As a young teen I was ill equipped to defend what I felt in my heart. My Dads mother was a devout Catholic and she would tell me all the time that she prays for them to find their way back. Since the early 90’s we have come a long ways and with information so readily available thanks to the internet there is no reason one should not pursue the truth. As I pray my Rosary every morning I am asking God and the Blessed Mother to lead my family home. One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church!!

Catholics did sell indulgences. And did many terrible things. Read Foxe's Book of Martyrs. And Martin Luther never said to stop doing good works!!! That is a total lie. Protestants are very generous with charity and many, many good works. Catholics can be stingy. I have learned a lot from Catholics but there is no way to earn your way to heaven through good works. Finally, you get so tired, you just give up. Plus, you find that Catholics spend too much money on things that are completely unnecessary. Too much time praying to hundreds of dead saints ... and there is no way to be sure all these" saints" are actually in heaven. Popes are not infallible when it comes to the method of determining who is or isn't a saint. Most Catholics I know are drunkards and don't believe in much of anything. They are tired of homosexual priests. And unmarried clergy telling them what to do.

The whole "good works aren't meant to get you into Heaven" kinda makes you wonder :what's the difference between "doing good works", "doing a good deed "for today", and "living a "good life"? If it comes down to inspiring mercy/grace/kindness/love/patience/ peace, you do need works to accompany your faith. In the Gospel reading, Jesus said to believe through the works He did, if anything at all. If they're genuine, works aren't empty.

Now being Catholic I learned how much sin I had committed and still struggle to commit. I am so thankful for this talk to help clear up further the protestant to Catholic misconceptions in my mind, especially that we are saved through grace! we just have to cooperate with it. I think I had begun to understand this better but you stated it so clearly! St Therese is also helping me heal from my scruples🤍 Growing up I was just told “were all sinning all the time, so don’t worry about it” its such a horribly dangerous way to live. That mentality had my husband and I living together long before we were married. We are just SO thankful for the clarity of Our Lords Holy Catholic Church! No moral question goes unanswered. We pray for our families now to come home to Christs Church. God bless you Father thank you!!

@@DivineMercy_Official yes, the short version is that I have been bombarded with questions about The Blessed Mother, also (if I’m not mistaken the dogma regarding Her prominence was introduced later in church history) How do I reconcile this. This was the best talk I have heard about Martin Luther. I was raised a Lutheran and can honestly say in my heart I knew things were not right. I have been listening to Catholic teachings for about 3 years now and I feel like I'm being called home to the Catholic Church. I have come to these conclusions on my own before I heard this talk but this talk confirms all the things I have been thinking about. I don't want to be a Lutheran or listen to any more Lutheran doctrine. My heart has been Catholic for a long time now. Please pray for me on my journey home. I live in Canada and already feel like I am on my journey back home to the Catholic church.

That was solid teaching. I gave up on Catholicism a long time ago and for many years I just sort of floated through life. Then I ended up in a bad place and knew I had to get right with God but I didn't want anything to do with the Catholic Church. So I went church shopping, bouncing around from place to place, trying to find a church that would inspire me. What I found was a lot of different people who seemed to be making it up as they went along, and a lot of singing. There were some instances where I didn't know if I was at a church service or a concert. And one thing kept coming to the front of my admittedly limited mind, I never felt at home. I always felt like a guest. The people were decent enough, but I knew I was just a visitor passing through. Anyway, after being disappointed for a while I thought, well, that's it. I've run out of options. I figured I would just be a church of one. Then one day, by chance I drove past a Catholic church and this strange idea popped into my head. Why not give them another try. A friend had been on me to come back but I was stubborn. I had a bad experience with a bad parish when I was a kid and I was still acting like that hurt little kid. But that day, a feeling came over me, give them a try. I didn't go to that church but I attended Mass at another church and within five minutes I knew I was home. The liturgy, all that structure I though I hated became beautiful to me. I was at peace. And it was no coincidence that it was the Mass celebrating the Assumption of our Blessed Mother. She led me back home. It was her voice touching my heart that day and with the help of my Guardian Angel I made it back. Her son, Jesus Christ had left the light on and I knew that day I was never going away again. I still tear up as recount that glorious day. To anyone who is struggling like I did, God has left the light on for you too. All you have to do is walk through the door. And it doesn't cost a penny. God Bless. 🙏

I really loved how you explained the way Protestants seem to think how Catholics worship and see God then turn things around and actually explain the truth about how Catholics actually worship and what Catholics actually believe in. I also loved how you compared Martin Luther to St. Therese of Lisieux, both their similarities and their differences. I think if they were living in the same century and had an opportunity to meet each other I think St. Therese might have been able to be a huge influence on Martin Luther to not abandon the Catholic church altogether like he did. You did a good job on this talk Fr. Chris. God bless you now and always.

Tuesday during mass I was praying to the Lord for a sign that I was in the right place. I went to the altar rail for a blessing during communion (arms crossed of course), and the Holy Spirit was present. I returned to my seat to kneel and thanked The Lord for answering my prayers, tears streaming down my face. I have never had such a thirst for the word of God. The priest of the church, Father Tipton, has corresponded with me through email and patiently answered any and every question I have had. Wednesday I decided to attend OCIA/RCIA and convert via a Church that is part of the Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter. I’m coming home.

33:10 That was literally me! I was living steeped in sin and grew numb from it I didn't feel sorry. I was forced to go to confession by my wife. Got there and told the young associate priest I didn't feel sorry. He didn't absolve my sins. The older priest found out (after asking how my confession went), and heard my confession right then and there. He said the fact that I was there willing to go to confession and feeling bad that I didn't feel sorry was evidence enough that I was looking to change. That confession brought me back to God. Thank God for him.

Fr Chris some Lutherans and Anglicans (conservative Presbyterians too, maybe) I have met, have been tricked in a way. They believe in the Lord’s Supper, that Jesus is present to them in Sunday service breaking of the bread, in some special way, but they were led away from The Eucharist (we Catholics have via apostolic succession/ valid ordination). They want the True Presence, without knowing really what it is. Do they get a spiritual communion? Thank you for your wonderful and much needed teaching Fr Chris🙏

My ex was a devout Lutheran and he often boasted his parish had communion at least twice a month, as compared to other Lutherans who only did so sparingly. I often pointed out how I was fortunate to have the chance EVERYDAY to consume the Eucharist, and that he never consumed Jesus. Good times in hindsight. For spiritual communion…. Well part of the Catholic idea of Eucharist consumption is the unspoken agreement that one believes in the Church’s teachings. Maybe they would receive more of a spiritual blessing than communion 🤔
