Matt, over the years I have enjoyed listening to you play many times. In fact, I rarely listed to other reviews of guitars these days. You keep the narrative short, focused, pertinent... and then you play. The piece you play with this OM-18A is particularly beautiful, really admire your dedication to the craft of musicianship.

This video was made 8 years ago. 8 years ago I got out of the hospital where they amputated my right leg and three or four week later I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage and this meant I couldn't play the guitar anymore. I had to start all over again. My main goal was not to allow myself to be frustrated and to focus on simple chords and rhythm. Because you can try and play whatever you want to play, but if your rhythm sucks your music sucks. Up until then I always played electrics, but since I had to start all over again anyway I decided to concentrate on the acoustic guitar. I actually only bought my first acoustic, a J-45, in 2012, but because of all the pain and other shit I didn't really get to play it. At that time I was already 43 years old. Why this long and irrelevant story, you might ask. Well..., it's not irrelevant to me. Playing the acoustic guitar saved my life basically. It brought me back so much joy. I didn't have to compete with anyone. Not even with myself. I just wanted to play and perform again and I knew it would take me years. I've been on that stage since I was 15. And I'm back. I don't play as often as I used to and I don't perform for the quantities of people that I was used to, but the acoustic guitar gave me back the joy of playing, but also the healthy addiction of being obsessed by the most beautiful guitars. I know what it's like to work for my dreams and I know that dreams can come true. They can come with a high price, but they'll come. And when they do, there's nothing more satisfying than that. THIS GUITAR is my dream guitar. I know what it's like to work for dreams and I know that dreams can come true. See where I'm going? One day I'll have a dream guitar JUST LIKE this one. I wish I knew that 8 years ago when you shot this video. I've bought some beautiful guitars since then. All dream guitars. I know what I want now. I became a dream collector!!! ❤️❤️❤️

One of the nicest guitars I ever played. If it wasn't for the 1 3/4 width I would have snagged it. Beautiful playing on this one, Matt.

Just beautiful playing Matt! I'm a fan, and listen to these demos just to hear your original melodies, they're very soothing . Please keep us updated on the status of your upcoming album. Do you sing, and will you be recording with accompaniment, or solo?

Every time I hear an Authentic, I imagine myself playing as well Matt. The OM-18 Authentic and OM-28 Authentic are the holy grail of Martin guitars. I'd sell my kids to get one if I could play the neck ;-)

Now that Martin has made VTS a regular spec on Authentics, I'd love to hear a demo of the newer OM-18 Authentic 1933, if not a direct comparison.

Nice guitar! I wonder why they don't use the teardrop pickguard like other OMs?

Matt, I'm sure you love them both, but do you reach for mahogany or rosewood more often at home?
