Thanks for the video Martin. I was watching the smoke coming out of the stove pipe there at your cabin, and reminds me of when I pull in my driveway, my stove pipe is on the west side of my house, so I can see it soon as I drive in, and seeing that smoke slowly coming out is a good feeling that my house is nice and warm after being out in the woods cutting wood or hunting. I use paper feed sacks to start my fires. I have hogs, chickens, other fowl, so I get those sacks every month, and there are 2 other farmers that give me all their paper feed sacks, so I've got plenty of fire starter each winter. No Birch in my area, or I'd use it myself.
@TheNorthwoodsman1
@TheNorthwoodsman1 4 жыл бұрын
Sure nice to have good material to get the fire going. My ritual on cool spring mornings is to have the stove set up the night before so the bark is lit and then the coffee started on the gas range. By the time the coffee has perked the wood stove has warmed and keeps my coffee just right for the following cups.

What a great surprise. Woke up with the sunrise this morning to a new Martin's cabin video to enjoy with my coffee. In the process of getting my building site for my off grid cabin going up by Mercer Wisconsin I took a day or so to go explore the area a bit. Found a small, log trapper cabin similar to the size of yours and being abandoned it is starting to decay but if that cabin could talk wow. I took some pictures of it the next time I see you I'll share them.

The imperial system is our unique cultural inheritance, and I don't think we should trash it. Unless you're incredibly dumb (which most engineers, carpenters, etc. aren't), the Imperial system isn't difficult to use. Besides, the metric system was based on a Frenchman's measurement of the circumference of the Earth -- which he got wrong! Our system is human -- it uses feet and yards, which were originally meant to be the size of the average belt. So that's why I support the Imperial system, anyway.

I wish I knew more about some of those past residents. Locally no one seems to know anything about them. I even searched out a 99 year old man about 10 years ago that who knew a lot but not about that exact area.

All good, I spent 5 weeks there on this trip and could have happily stayed longer. I had never stayed that late into June but this year the bugs were tolerable and that make it possible.

Hi Martin. Always a treat when we get a “at the cabin” notification. Hey if u can elevate the water can with a spigot on it, bingo eh.

Great idea and it will be a future project. I am going to put up a structure to get my solar panels about 10 feet in the air. It will be out in full sun and may just be the ticket to elevate a water container with a shower hose. Paint it black and I should be in business.

I guess at one time there were lots of cabins up there. At least you and your friends saved yours. Always nice to see a video put out and a nice slow walk around the forest. Take care and well

TheNorthwoodsman1 we’re heading up tomorrow to our off grid cabin. We’ve been building it for 4 years. About 50% done. It’s more about the journey than anything else. It’s close to the west side of Algonquin park in Ontario.

Those old structures remind me of a spot we used to bear hunt very similar. I wonder what they are today then there is an old trappers cabin that is on a lake we fish truthfully only found it 5-6 years ago but it has been there from the 60's it has held up well I enjoyed your video thanks
