People thought his performance was frightening? His performance as Captain Williard was one of the greatest performances in cinema history.
@TheWayoftheSith9 жыл бұрын
+Steve M Well back then that kind of raw acting that transcends acting and just becomes real, for the actor and for people that where used to stylised hollywood, well still is actually but would definitely feel alot more frightening for people back then. These days we don't get that kind of acting because well great directors are hard to come by, they are on the fringes in the indie scene and well hollywood only gives a few of a them a shot at making a 'blockbuster' so we only get to see that once a while, only for the ones that make a great film that breaks through its cult status and gets recognized everywhere. Sometimes we get to see a convergence of a great director, great actor and a great piece of literature to base it off on that resonates with what was happening at the time (that is also relevant to this day about hollowness of war and how people best come to terms with it without deluding themselves) like in Apocalypse Now, and have the story be translated well with a fair bit of creativity to make it all work somehow. Its a doubley rare occurence.

@@joemckim1183 Many argue that Martin Sheen is still not much of an actor. The whole family jokes about it and Charlie often. That may be just his own personal opinion, everyone else touted to play Willard (Robert Redford, Jack Nicholson, Harvey Keitel, and especially Steve McQueen and Gene Hackman) were all older than Martin Sheen. The US command sending a more mature, experienced military policeman (also kinda in the theme of "before you retire, we have one last mission for you"), after the first guy joined the cult instead of executing Kurtz, would make sense as well, opposed to sending another young, impressionable Tween up the river who's likely to fail.

Most actors have a team of lawyers and publicists hiding the fact that they’re not perfect. Here Sheen makes no excuses. And I agree with others that this is the best talk show, ever. Costas was always prepared with a lot of research, asked atypical questions… actually listened and, get this, asked follow-up questions. Of course, a genius executive cancelled the show.

@razbigranicu I also personally believe Sheen is in the same league as De Niro & Pacino but has not had the same success due to his choices (and those of directors). De Niro once said that, "the talent is in the choices" which I believe to be true. Not every actor will get this kind of job offer twice! It's all about how these great actors USE their talent, not so much about the 'quantity' of talent that they have. Range, however, is a bit more of an issue.
