I'm not sure if what he said is true, but if we take him at his word, patients with no insurance can have access to the medication for free or very cheap. He's making money from insurance companies who on their own have very shady business practices, and have little room to criticize anyone. Also, he's probably right about how the media jumped all over him for what he did, his drug isn't the only one charging crazy prices.

I was on Martin's channel discussing the situation about my uncle who died of toxoplasmosis. Martin reached out to me and asked that I call him regarding the situation, since I was a bit peeved that my uncle (who passed last year) didn't get the proper care by the hospital for his condition. In all honesty, it was the hospital that was responsible for my uncle's death, not Turing, since prescription drugs are supposed to be offered to hospitals enrolled in the 340b program for less than 2 cents. Anyhow, I did get an opportunity to speak with Martin and he seemed like a real person; he wasn't arrogant and didn't berate me during the conversation. I must say that I initially had some trepidation about speaking w/ him because I saw some of his interactions w/ people via his videos, and let's just say that I wasn't looking for drama and I certainly wasn't interested in arguing with him. He came across as compassionate and nice. I do not know him personally, but again, based on my conversation with him, I think he is genuine and simply gets a bad rap because he may have crossed the wrong people in the media, who don't like him.
