Right now, people pay hundreds of dollars a month for it. But what if one day, the insurance companies say, ALRIGHT WERE NOT PAYING FOR IT. And people like Martin are at the helm of these companies… you think they’ll make it AFFORDABLE? No, they’ll do everything they can to maximize profit AT THE SAKE OF CUSTOMERS LIVES. He's obviously very well-spoken and articulate, but I see why views he has made him public enemy no. 1 at the time. His view on pricing for drugs makes sense from a market standpoint, but there are 365 million people in the country, most of whom are living paycheck to paycheck, and many of whom do not have health insurance through their employers. When they unexpectedly find out they have a disease, they are forced to go into debt they will never overcome just to treat it and continue living their lives with their loved ones. On the other hand, I don't think it should be the burden of private companies, who are obligated to make money for shareholders, to reduce their prices just for the sake of doing the right thing. The difference between those two equally reasonable positions needs to be covered by the government in some fashion. How that would look, I don't know, but life-saving medications need to be attainable to the lower and middle classes without financially ruining them -- $300k is a figure that would put the majority of people into insurmountable debt for life. The government has a responsibility to see to it that people do not die unnecessarily from otherwise treatable diseases simply because they can't afford to get treatment. I've never voted for a Democrat in my life by the way and I fully support Austrian Economics and the free markets, but there are some areas where governments have responsibilities to maintain or increase the average lifespans of its citizens over time. No one should be starving to death because they can't afford food -- which they don't here thankfully -- and no one should be dying because they are allergic to peanut butter and couldn't afford an Epi-Pen. The problem with Elon and Martin is that they're on the Autism spectrum and can't understand that they're severely deficient in messaging. If he simply had a PR professional addressing the media, or a lawyer, he may have stayed out of jail. He literally talked himself into jail.
@johnn7419 Жыл бұрын
this is not correct. look it up, he gave away his medicine for free to the people who could prove they needed it
@haroldpierre17265 ай бұрын
This moment is both a learning opportunity and a bittersweet reflection. As a parent of a child with severe peanut allergies, I remember being unable to afford the $500 EpiPen to protect my child from potentially fatal allergic reactions. Over the years, Americans have had to deal with patented drugs or drug delivery systems that have become unaffordable. Is Martin Shkreli considered intelligent because he exploited the healthcare system at the expense of those who desperately needed these medications. Or maybe it's Mark Cuban who is intelligent for finding ways to increase access to medications at affordable prices. While some might argue this is simply American capitalism at work, we must question whether profit should come before people's lives. Just because something is legal doesn't make it right.

People want to point their finger all the time at pharmaceutical companies but insurance companies are super crooked and hospitals too. I had to get an mri and the outpatient mri center said it would be cheaper to pay out of pocket if I haven’t met my insurance deductible. I know some OR nurses and they tell me that the mark up for the supplies they use in surgery is crazy. They basically act as middle men. They buy stuff for a reasonable price from their distributors and mark it up like crazy. Then there are also private equity groups taking over physician groups and other healthcare entities. I listened to martin’s side of his story a while ago. I don’t remember the specifics but I remember that it wasn’t anything like what the media made it out to be.
@Laser2120 Жыл бұрын
Setting the price for a product is not the issue. The problem arises when a company has a monopoly on that product and people don’t have a choice to buy it or not. This can affect their well-being if they don’t buy it. It’s not Martin’s fault; many companies are doing the same thing. For example, most drugs are cheaper outside the US. The fault lies in how the system works.

AI is the 1st step to removing legal drug pushers/quacks. Chatgpt AI reading thru all of the medical studies means a computer is more likely to suggest X pharma co work with Y pharma co on this project for a solution that works. right now,, drugs are cleared at the FDA based on best bribes. look how many people played russian roulete with their lives taking the covid vax,, diluted batcrap.. no proof of cure! all for profit and a form or money laundering for investors.. now these companies want to sell you the cure for your new health problems. the world is full of snake oils.

there are a myriad of pitfalls when depending on AI for medical evaluation, treatment, and follow-up. One huge pitfall I can think of is communication. the average reading level of citizens in the US is 7-8th grade. How does AI communicate effectively with someone with 5th-grade English, or lower, broken English? Not effectively in my estimation, and these are frequently the ones who need more affordable access to care. I think AI will enable physicians to be much more effective physicians but don't seen doctors being replaced by AI in our lifetimes.

Is there any info in the LLM that isn't found using Google? From what I understand, they're both using the same data source right? So the LLM just makes it easier but even then its subjective, I asked this drgupta one a question and it took almost a minute for an answer that Google provided quicker.

It's just a wrapper with pre-formated prompts under the hood to get more concise answers. Basically the easiest/lowest hanging fruit in the AI world right now.

Martin is smart, but the reality is, he has a huge blind spot. He would do well to find a business partner who is the fluffy ying to his coldly logical yang.

Precisely. He obv paid the price, but he’s uncompromisingly real it seems. He’s Icarus. He loves the fame because that’s his chip on his shoulder

Shkreli, despite all his flaws, really has a way to articulate complex stuffs and make it easy to understand.

I completely agree with this, For me the first $100k was the toughest, and I didn't really start seriously investing until I was 30 back in 1998. Today, I'm 55 and have a decent $1.2M nest egg. After learning all of this, my only regret is not starting earlier when I was 25. It may not seem like much but those extra 5 years are the most important.

Please how do you go about this, do you use an fa, and if you do can you leave the info of your investment analyst here? I overheard someone talking about how a couple made over $200k during this red season. I need such luck for myself and my husband lol

Thanks for this gem, financial management is a crucial topic that most tend to shy away from, and ends up haunting them in the near future so i respect people that don't mind sharing some tips
