I love what Martin said about Canadians being able to discuss politics without it being a big deal. I’m Australian and I feel like it’s the same here although the US is unwittingly exporting their extreme partisanship through social media world wide. The fear and hatred of people who disagree with you is pretty uniquely a hallmark of US politics, and so many things people online are obsessed with like SJW’s and militant Feminists or Alt right incels don’t really exist offline and especially not offline outside the US. They are such a tiny insignificant part of the populace that gets so much oxygen yet people are whipped up in a frenzy to believe that entertaining any idea from the other side is akin to championing all the ideas of the other side. How can anything get done in that political climate? I hope in 2020 the American people can vote for someone who breaks the stalemate and achieves an outcome on any policy area for the majority of voters. Just one issue, anything! Just get something passed that isn’t for the donor class. I have this dream for you my American friends 😊.

Katy McDonald I think part of it is that our federal election campaigns go for about a month. In America they go for years.
@katymcdonald54815 жыл бұрын
RedLightMax true but I also think that even in general politics can be discussed without it being a big deal.
@katymcdonald54815 жыл бұрын
S.M.C. Kennels you clearly didn’t understand my comment because that was exactly my point. People put too much weight on internet phenomena, Bill talks about it with his guests all the time. He even had Milo on ffs. People are afraid of people and ideas they hear about on the internet but don’t really exist in reality.
@katymcdonald54815 жыл бұрын
S.M.C. Kennels I can see how you might have misunderstood but I was saying that because of the extremism online that gets talked about in American politics, it’s being exported via social media to the rest of the world. You could argue that the bipartisanship is a symptom of online echo chambers but I think it’s more that US politics was already very divided and social media amplified it which in turn takes more extremism into the general political discourse.
@ShirleyAnn665 жыл бұрын
In Canada (and I believe Australia would be similar since we have similar political systems), there's also far more nuance in the political spectrum. Don't agree with the farthest far right people? Or the farthest far left people? There's a more moderate party or parties on either side of the spectrum that you might agree with more. And they can run candidates and can win seats and even win majorities. I feel political discussions aren't as polarizing when you have more than two choices.

KARMA ... and this country America has the worst karma build-up over all of history, laugh while you can, when this country is invaded by foreign powers it will happen, this country blasts and bombs practically everywhere, you live by the sword you die by the sword, America will die by the hand of Karma etc ... The reason it's so nice to be doing something that doesn't involve politics all the time is because Trump is so incompetent at the job (& paranoid about it) that we have to constantly be vigilant as to what he is aways doing in the office!
@cathieludemann58795 жыл бұрын
With trump, yes, we must all be constantly vigilant. With previous presidents, we trusted that they were competent and had experienced staffs to support them. They were able to work with Congress on most issues, and they were not constantly alienating our allies. They were educated, well-spoken, consulted with experienced professionals, could bring most of the country together when needed, and had leadership qualities. They also didn't do outrageous news interviews, and they stayed off Twitter. In other words, they were presidents. Not some wannabe only looking for ways to line his pockets.
@KennethJLave5 жыл бұрын
@@cathieludemann5879 That's a pretty good take you just made on Trump's persona. My mom was getting upset the other day because everything's always Trump, Trump, Trump! But that's why. You gotta watch shady dudes - like a hawk (buzzard). Give him an inch, they'll take a mile.

@Phil Fry When Obama was President, the country was also "still moving" (although that seems like a pretty low bar to clear, personally, but I guess it means something to you), and "plenty of" jobs were created. (Far more, actually.) Yet there sure were a LOT of people angry - very, VERY angry, in fact - that he was President. Answer honestly now - were you not perhaps one of them? And even if you weren't one, did you similarly take it upon yourself to tell such people to GET [TF] OVER IT? I wonder . . .
