MTJ one of the most humble unsung heroes of the cup series went from rock bottom to the top. Man reached the lowest of lows to the highest highs. I remember everyone loved when he w9m.the championship and then at the last race everyone stood up. (Drivers and teams.) A humble guy who enjoys fishing and was always the chillest guy. I do appreciate him I remember when he was in Busch north series and won at Adirondack speedway where I'm from wanted him to do great since.

MTJ, has been my favorite driver since I was a little girl. My father got me into nascar Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jr was his drivers. But I chose MTJ because he drove for DEI. I remember his first win 2007 I remember how happy I was as a seven year old girl could be. It was tough seeing him struggle but he always had that fight in him. In 2017 was amazing seeing him win his championship and Jr last cup race was so emotional. Over the years I grew attached and invested in him as a driver. I'm not going to lie I was so emotional the last race. I wish his last full season was better but if he's happy then I'm happy for him. I can't wait to see what he does in the future 💛

This is the 3rd notable driver I can say I saw their career from start to finish. Carl Edward’s & Bowyer are the others. Him going from back marker to champion was a pleasure to watch. Thank you Truex🙏🏾

I don't know if he's one of the most underrated guys ever, but I certainly would say he's one of the greatest comeback, rags-to-riches stories in racing history, coming back from being kind of a Cup Series bust (not a full-blown one but surely an underwhelming career at first, similar to Stenhouse nowadays) to make a small, middle of the pack at best team into a championship dominating team in 2017 and a contender every year from '15 'till JGR did their thing and they had to leave in '18. Great human being as well. Everything he and his fiancée went through together, and how they supported each other, was a beautiful story that sadly ended up tragically (mandatory fuck Danica here). So overall a great career by an even better guy. Hope he enjoys retirement.

Martin truex jr is a true friend a tenacious fighter who barely laid a glove on the competition Martin truex jr will be remembered for thriving at both ends of the spectrum in nascar with unending grit and resilience he overcame massive roadblocks of team closures and sponsor departures though sheer meddle and elite talent he took a single car team to the 2017 Championship but while fighting hard for wins he always raced fair no superstar has been less assuming and controversial than truex the cleanest racer of his generation the soft spoken fisherman from the jersey shore proved that you can excel at the highest competition level while holding yourself to the highest ethical standard it’s that legacy of perseverance and speed and sportsmanship that fans and peer’s alike appreciated about truex he earned full admiration and respect of NASCAR nation as a humble champion

Truex put up the most dominant performance of all time in the 2016 Coke 600. He should be commended for the 1st half of his career for making DEI, MWR, and Furniture Row (before JGR alliance) competitive and winning races for them.

I would love to see an alternate reality in which MTJ started his career in top equipment. Honestly I'd just like to see what his career totals would have been if the numerous things that went wrong had swung his way instead. If that happened we could be looking at a dude that ends up with 45-50 wins and 3 or 4 titles. Not half bad for a driver whose career didn't takeoff until their age 35 season.

I guarantee you if Truex started his career in a Hendrick or Gibbs car he would no doubt have double the wins and more championships than he does now.

I think people rate him accurately -- during the big 3 year I think he really proved himself if he hadn't already when he won the championship. People didn't give him high chances of winning these past 2 years because he kind of dropped off in execution at the same time the rest of his team did, but I feel like everyone still views him as like the 5th best active driver. Maybe I'm just projecting, I can only guess what everyone else thinks.

This is a discussion that can go on and on. 80s, 90, up to 2003-2004 was my era. I dont know much about truex career ill take your word for it. Bill Elliot was never slept on, he won most popular driver so many times, he was a force to reckoned with in the 80s, 91 wasn't a good year, left the family team had that great year at junior Johnsons in 92 and then that organization fell apart 93-95 era and he just didn't have the lucky breaks or the right team under him until he had some success with Ray evernham dodge team until he retired. Bill was a clean racer. And the whole clean driving etiquette was even going way by the time i stopped watching, does kurt busch ring any bells? That dude had no respect towards the competitors in the early 2000s. There were so many drivers that were slept on and didn't make it because of the lack of opportunities. I always thought Lake Speed was somebody that had a lot of talent until his injury at sonoma in 98 driving the cartoon network car. just no big team took a chance on him and I'm sure it was the lack of money/sponsorship.

Definitely a top ten active driver, top 5 cleanest driver, and top 30 all time imo. I do feel he is forgotten about though. He isn’t the most exciting guy and his early career was weird which also makes him hard to promote. Divers who are successful for a long period of time are always more likely to be remembered. Terry and Bobby Labonte, Kenseth, Busch’s, Harvick. Divers of his win and championship level are just remembered better because they were in that position for longer in people’s minds. More to recall.

I actually think Matt Kenseth is the most underrated driver.....he seems to be remembered for 2 things, Martinsville 2015, and winning the 2003 championship, no one remembers the 2 daytona 500 wins, the other 37 wins, winning the coke 600 as a rookie......

It does bother me that clean driving isn't the standard anymore cause as I learned about the sport and the history of the sport guys used to be so mad about being wrecked or doored cause they all drove with the mindset that "we are all going out there and have an obligation to take care of each other." And that's what really leaving the sport with Martin.

I’d argue Chris Buescher is more of a Truex style racer in terms of racing clean than Elliott. Can’t think of an instance where Buescher took someone out. Oddly enough, Kyle Busch now could be considered one of the cleaner drivers in my opinion.
@runrafarunthebestintheworldАй бұрын
Yep Radman is projecting here because Chase Elliott literally right hooked Denny Hamlin at Charlotte and got fined for it. Chris Buescher or even Christopher Bell has not done that as of yet.
@seannolan9857Ай бұрын
Most underrated in history would probably be Jim Paschal. Won 25 races and has never so much as been nominated for the HoF. Mainly because he passed away five years before the Hall started, so no one was pushing for his induction. Fonty Flock also has an excellent argument. Truex will almost certainly get in within three years of his retirement.

I'm not saying you're wrong about MTJ, but you're wrong about Harvick. Dude had one of the best average finishes of all time, and the first half of his career was at a post 90s RCR. The Johnson domination wouldn't have been a thing if Harvick was in a top team like JJ had.
