After crushing Serena 62 61 or whatever Mary plays like this 😰

Serena was not playing particularly well at this point in 2000.

Serena was experiencing the "sophomore slump" after winning the US Open and Mary was rising as she would win the French Open a few months later.

After this, I was shocked Hingis lost to her at the French.

Hingis blew several French Opens...97-2000.

You could never tell with Pierce. She was so streaky - she went through patches of being untouchable, then could fall to bits (often in the same match).

Hingis had attitude then. If she had the maturity of Seles, she would have won around 8 slams

I mean, it's difficult to win EVERY SINGLE match against a player. Hingis was the far superior player, but even she could have an off day once in a while.

What's happening at 4-1 pierce ? I want my refund !

Hingis much more confident against Pierce then Davenport and Williams, it’s clear she felt she could always turn it around with Pierce

Mary doesn't hit as well on the run as compared to Lindsay, who is also slow, but for the most part still has remarkable balance and composure when pulled out wide outside the court.

@@iamshadowbanned699 i think the main difference is in the errors, way too many from Mary
@iamshadowbanned6993 жыл бұрын
@@paskferr When you think about I agree that is also a factor since Mary is a hot and cold player compared to the sisters and Davenport.

Hingis also knew Pierce was a far less accomplished athlete and her movement was even more of a handicap than against Davenport who also is the purest striker of the ball. Both Venus and Serena were athletes in another league Hingis couldn't compete against at their peaks. If only she decided to put more into developing her second serve she would have had a chance, and been at a 49-51 footing vs what became a 68-32 disadvantage especially against Serena.
