1996 Hingis was the most fun to watch, with her no holds barred tennis. After she became number one, she became so much more conservative. Or maybe it was the change of rackets.

WOW..what a clinic the Swiss Miss put on. Just pretty much turned 16...has the body more of a very feminine figure skater and just the intelligence...the shot making and seemingly indoors her serve is really good,!!! So glad I got to watch her in my late 20' s and really appreciate it. The only thing that stood between her and The Singles Grand Slam in ,97 was a darn horse!!! She was out for 6 to 7 weeks and couldn't play one single clay tournament B4 the French Open and still got to the finals. It was a rough 3 setter against the great Monica Seles that did her in as Martina was quoted " that match took it all out of me...I had no more to give " she would win the other 3 so not bad. She would win the Grand slam in doubles and in mixed!!!! 25 grand slam titles in all. There will never be another Swiss Miss...( For me anyways ) love all u tennis fans out there!!?!!

The horse riding accident seemed like a fishy excuse since Hingis played tougher opponents on her way to the final, including Seles, only to lose to Iva Majoli.
@jujumusique1305 Жыл бұрын
@@broncoguy4862 it wasn’t. She was clearly tired in the finals after playing very tough matches in both singles and doubles and thought she was going to have a lot of margin vs Majoli.

Nine out of ten times Hingis would hit down the line with Seles to take time away from Seles. Probably would had been more effective for Seles to loop the ball deeper and to take some power off her shots as Hingis would just use Seles' power and redirect the ball. She should had made Hingis create her own power.

Hingis shot placements exposes the poor movement of Monica 2.0.
@grantgoffin4774 Жыл бұрын
She also liked the pace of Seles which was consistent pace, as she liked to use and redirect pace. One reason she had problems with the Williams sister is while they hit with huge pace, it was not consistent pace, as they also mixed up with some lower pace shots, then other blistering ones, so she couldn't get in that rythym of using their pace to redirect it.
@shanechua80407 ай бұрын
It didn’t help that the Williams sisters moved much better than Monica. Seles’ biggest weapon in my opinion was her uncanny ability to create angles but Hingis was somewhat always able to negate that and forced Monica into awkward positions to expose her lack of mobility.
