just some advice, in case you decide to revisit the JC2 speedrun: the constant crashing can also be avoided with turning off "Bokeh filter" and "GPU water simulation" in the settings. that solved the issue for me, since i already capped the framerate to 60FPS
@ThatTonnatoTenrec2 жыл бұрын
If its NVIDIA Cards its Decals i think, its very weird but it seems any of the more advanced settings just seem to take a dump on the game stability.
@SlyCooperReloadCoded2 жыл бұрын
There's actually an easier way - dxvk. It's a Direct3D to Vulkan wrapper. All the crashes are caused because modern NVIDIA cards have issues with some Direct3D10 functions that many games don't use, but this one does. Since dxvk makes the game render using Vulkan, all crashes disappear without the need to change any settings. Before using dxvk, Decals would cause constant graphical issues and crashes, and buildings in the city would constantly glitch out regarless of what graphics settings I was using. After installing dxvk, no issues whatsoever, even with Decals enabled. Logically it makes sense, no idea why this solution isn't listed anywhere.

Just Cause 2 is a relic of a previous gaming generation, where the developers built their games knowing most players wouldn't have many games or other timekillers. It's something to put a couple hours into after getting home from school before dinner, which is rarely the design philosophy anymore.

My biggest problem in 100%ing most games is their useless collectables (especially in open world), there's no worse feeling than almost collecting every single one and then you find out that there's still 1 item missing and you have no idea of where it might be It's just a tedious chore that makes the game not fun, and as a living legend once said: "If it's not fun, why bother?"
@TheSultan14702 жыл бұрын
@@ayrtonjoga I will say this: Collectibles and side mini missions work under three conditions: 1. They are at least somewhat marked and/or the player is assisted in finding them (eg. Collectibles in Bully: SE are marked on the map following completion of geography classes, movie tokens in Driver: San Francisco are marked on the map after purchasing the token finder in garages. An example that tries this but doesn't quite work is Chop helping Franklin look for letter scraps and alien ship parts by barking when near them and then sniffing them out. It's still far too tedious since there's 50 of em and they are sometimes located in hard to reach places. The submarine parts and nuclear scrap are better marked, though. 2. They need to have a clearly defined, usefull gameplay related reward or extra, like extra max health, funds, items and such. 3. It needs to be related to in game story or lore in some way. The above makes them tolerable, if still tedious.

I've 100%'d JC2 twice now (not speed running, it took months each time). The first time, I got to 99.97% completed, it took me another eight or so hours of searching every part of the map, before I looked online and found that the game was bugged, and there was a few crates missing from the game world. Watching this video has brought back what a slog 100%'ing this game is, let alone trying to do it in one sitting. Of course now I want to try 100%ing it again.

Even though this took longer than the world record done in separate sections, I think this run is far more impressive due to it being essentially a single sitting, with a few food breaks and crashes and so on. Then editing the footage down to a 27 minute video is insane. Speed runs with really fast times are impressive, but these are far more amusing to watch.
