Pretty amazing that guns went from muzzle loaders, to breech loaders, to lever actions, then to bolt actions and even the early machine guns all in the span of 100 years:

@koreancowboy423 жыл бұрын
Why do u need it to be reloaded fast? Almost all the other weapons were better than it anyways. Rather have more ammo since any sniper you can still hit people in their sweet spots unlike modern battlefields games and battlefield 5. Bf5 is like crap when it comes to sniping now cuz no sweet spot especially considering every bf game has snipers that are good and the stats don't live up to it. Martini Henry is easily good dmg and range but one shot can mess up alot. Its my top weapon in bf1 I been playing sniper with my squad for plenty of games they were luck to even have me take out other snipers. About 500 kills to almost 600, not boasting but just throwing it out there its nothing impressive as anyone can reach those numbers if they are in a good match. Bf5 bolt action rifles can't do crap two shots or three just to kill someone with a sniper class meant to snipe while other people running assault or medic class can out right kill u with their semi auto rifles. So wtf.....

Alot of European military firearms (smoothbore muskets especially) up to the adoption of early metallic cartridges were around .50 caliber, that is to say about the size of your thumb nail in diameter. Black powder may not have been able to throw rounds down-range as powerfully as today's "Smokeless" powders, but when your bullet is that honkin' huge, it makes up for it a little...As newer gunpowders came on the market, the idea of smaller, faster rounds became more practical and easier for the shooter to fire off more rounds on target.

Accuracy through volume of fire is a valid (and my favorite) tactic.
@Ashfielder3 жыл бұрын
@@X3RUBIM On the contrary, individual marksmanship was prized in the British army with the advent of the breech loader, and 'rapid fire' was always intended to fall within a specific target area at a specific range. Even independent firing in the more desperate short range skirmishes in Africa was intended to be deliberate rather than panicked. Of course, in actual combat scenarios drill was likely abandoned for the less accurate but faster method seen here.

I own one of those, it's called a "solar" or "topee" helmet. It was specifically designed for service in the tropics or the desert. It's surprisingly functional: the lower edge of the front brim is so close to your eyes that your direct forward vision is unrestricted,it doesn't interfere with marking a target and aiming. (Upward forward vision is pretty much non-existent -- you have to tilt your head to see anything above a horizontal line of sight.) The point on the brim shades the bridge of your nose, helping keep glare out of your shooting eye while aiming. The extended brim in the back keeps the sun off your neck, and the cotton covering can be soaked in water (the helmet itself is made out of cork) to aid in cooling. You could do this either by dunking (just don't let the inside of the helmet get wet -- the cork and liner are supposed to draw the sweat off your scalp, and they can't do that if they're already wet), or by pouring water from you water bottle (canteen) over the top of the helmet (just don't let your CSM catch you doing that unless you want to experience a rectumectomy for wasting water.)

It can be used for volley fire, I suppose.

My crazy grandpa had a C&R license and got ahold of one of these rifles. The problem was getting the ammo. Luckily he found some new breass and hand loaded some new rounds to finally shoot it. Him, along with my dad, set it up in a gun bench with some sandbags and a string on the trigger. Idk if the gun was just so old (yes) or if my grandpa overpressured the new rounds (also yes), but my dad said the stock just splintered into pieces and the barrel and mechanism ripped themselves from the reat of the gun. Luckily nobody was injured, but definitely makes me look at these old guns with a certain amount of amazement. RIP Gramps

If technology didn't progress so fast, lever-actions would be more iconic from their use in major wars.
