Agree! I have my entire front stage and rear surrounds in the Martin Logan Motion series. I accidentally fell in love with them while doing A/B testing at a Magnolia section of BestBuy. Took them home and fell in love with Martin Logan. Replaced my ELAC setup with the Martin Logans. I think they have done a terrible job of making their products available to reviewers. Looks like they finally are doing that with this new lineup. Wish they would make a new soundbar as well. The Martin Logan Motion Vision soundbar was amazing! Blew away my Sonos Arc and any other soundbars I’ve tried. Amazing bass not requiring subwoofer and the folded motion tweeters just sounded amazing in that soundbar. You can find them used for $300-$400 these days and we’ll worth it.

I went and demo'd a pair of Martin Logan Motion XT F100's. Between you and so many others I have heard so many great things about them. I all but decided I was going to buy them, along with the center and B100's for surrounds. Since it's a rather big purchase I thought I should listen to them first. For some comparison I wanted to also demo the Polk R700's as well. I heard so many great things about them, so why not? I first listened to the Polk R700's. The second song I listened to was dominique fils-aimé's Birds. It sounded really good on the Polk R700's, REALLY good! In fact, everything I listened to sounded great. I was having so much fun listening to the Polks that 45 minutes past before I realized I hadn't listened to the speakers I came there for yet. I had the Sales rep switch to the Martin Logans and it was such a stark difference. I listened to all the same songs again in the same order and the XT F100's sounded bright, thin, and lacking bass compared to the R700's. What is going on here? I tried turning it up and it made me wince, so I had to turn it down a little. They set the speakers up on the Denon X4800h, since that's the AVR I have at home and they put it in Pure Direct mode. As soon as they switched to the Martin Logans it felt like the wind was taken out of the sales. The sound stage was a little wider, had a little more depth, and the sound separation was slightly better as well. It almost sounded like every sound was coming from it's very own speaker placed in different areas, which was impressive, but it also sounded like I was being shouted at from far away. I listened for about 30 minutes and switched back to the Polks. Immediately, everything I was missing came back. The sound was more robust and textured. It felt more intimate, like I was in the room with them while they were singing. They also sounded warmer than the XT F100's, which I didn't even know I liked. I'm coming from Klipsch Speakers that I've had for 15 years. The ML's sounded very similar but way more refined. I could tell they were better than what I had, but the sound coming from the Polks was way more pleasing to my ear. This was not subtle either. it was night and day difference. What is going on here? I was all ready to buy these ML's, but after hearing the Polks and knowing that I can get all 5 speakers for less than a pair of ML's, It's hard to justify going with the ML's any more. What is everyone else hearing that I'm not? why are these considered such amazing speakers but they sound weak, anemic, and bright to me? Would they sound better with a more powerful am? I do have the Emotiva XPA5 gen 3 that I will hook them up to. They did look a little worn, like they had been on the floor for a long time. the front baffle was separating from the cabinet by 1/4", so maybe there was something wrong with them, or perhaps, I like a less refined sound.
@Audioholics10 ай бұрын
Maybr the MartinLogans were wired out of phase? The F100s are not lacking in bass. Another possibility, different placement than the Polks? Either way, both are great choices.
@jerameyregimbald213710 ай бұрын
@@Audioholics Thank you so much for getting back to me. I appreciate it. Being out of phase might have been the case. I don't know though since I didn't hook them up. It wouldn't have been the placement because they moved the speakers for me to the same spot, each time I switched. I could definitely hear the bass in the ML's but I couldn't feel it. It was like listening to a really nice set of open back headphones. One song I listened to was "I See Fire" by Geoff Castelucci, which is a great track to hear the quality of the bass. He's the most impressive bass singer I've listened to, as of today. The ML's were way more crisp sounding than the Polks on this song, for sure. He hit some low notes that, in comparison to the ML's, the Polks sounded a little...."Muddy", but I could feel it in my chest. That made the overall experience better, because I barely felt anything with the ML's. Don't get me wrong, it still sounded great on the Polks, but this was the only track where the ML's sounded more refined in the bass region. It was noticeably clearer. I placed an order on the Polks since they had a promotion. They are on back order until next month though. I plan on listening one more time before I pick them up, just in case there was a fluke. They said I can still get the ML's if I change my mind. I want to get something I won't feel the need to upgrade for a long time. Thank you!

Thanks for the review. I recently pulled the trigger on a pair of Sonus Faber Lumina 5 and I am enjoying them yet I have always enjoyed the ML AMT tweeter. I liked their older XTi 60 but it had problems so I got the Sonus Faber. Now ML came out with this XTf100's. I got an email from Sonus Faber and they announced a trade-in program where I can get full MSRP price for my speakers, so I may just trade my Lumina's for the XTf100. Both the ML and SF I believe are wide dispersion speakers. I am impressed and shocked that ML set up their speakers along the short wall. A wide dispersion speaker along the short wall? How did it sound, given the fact that it looks like hardly any acoustic treatments have been made.

Thanks Gene! I would love to hear a follow up on how the F200’s compare and are they worth the extra money or if that would be better spent on a subwoofer. Looking forward for the F200 review. I’m thinking of replacing my Bryston Middle T with the F200. The middle T do not punch much in the low mids (125-250hz) because the crossover point is at around 130. The low mids are on the shoulder of the poor 5inch mid driver. In the F200 the crossover is at 300. So the low mids are with the Bass on those 3 8inch woofers. Exactly what I’m looking for….

What I especially love coming from ELAC speakers…they are so easy to listen to. At lower volumes they still sound full and great. Impossible to accurately compare without both being in the same room but I think the new ML F100s are class leaders in their price range based on what I heard at the demo.

When should we expect a review?

Assuming review samples show up in the next couple of weeks, hopefully end of March.

Awesome. A bit premature but I do have the 60xti,50 and 35 in a 5.1 set up. You think this is worth the upgrade for those that are looking or best to look into an entirely different product line with similiar cost? I know your hearing was limited but I value your opinion

The previous Motions were a bit boxy sounding. I did like the rest of the sound. Are the new ones more solid and not boxy sounding ? Thanks Gene
@kingtrance307 Жыл бұрын
I don’t think the 60 XTi’s are boxy at all. They have a very wide soundstage (at least to me) but everyone hears different.

I really like my 60 xti

@@princediesel1 - Me too! The latest incarnation looks nice but paying double the price for the XT F100’s or 200’s just isn’t in my wheelhouse. I actually prefer the cosmetics on the 60 XTi’s better too. I got mine in Red Oak.

unless you add an 6 Line Array REL Acoustics Subs to your system your missing out on most of the Magic in Recorded Music. It's always been there and this is the only way to bring it out ! The same kind of feeling you get at an LIVE EVENT is waiting for you ! 🤔🤫Best-Kept Secret

I like their styling with the gold accents allot, reminds me of some 90’s pioneer esthetics. They feel Rich and Decadent like a tiramisu. While allot of plain white minimalist speakers strike me as more pretentious than something ostentatiously trimmed with gold and chocolatey dark fireside vibes. I do have a bit of a hangup though with the gap between the lower bass drivers and the upper one. Maybe there’s some baffle reinforcement reason behind that, or that region is the junction of the internal bracing, I don’t know but I feel cosmetically they should be more uniformly distributed like those Revel’s in your background. Which maybe means making each driver an inch larger and the cabinet two inches wider. This last generation infinity reference series has their drivers spread way out and it just looks sloppy and like they intended to put another driver in there but cheaped out last minute. It just screams compromise and notions of corporate departmental conflict, rather than a clear unified vision fully delivered. These Martin Logans aren’t that bad, but still a little off putting in the same esthetic way, although these do inspire more confidence in their delivery of vision. As do the Revels which are basically infinity speakers taken to the max.

All I can tell you is that Geoff Castellucci sounds fantastic on my jbl 590"s using two 550p subs in a fantasticly set up environment. I think a Bose wave guide radio could Rock out to that guy. It just amazes me how some artists sound so much better than other artists, even Ultra famous ones.🤯😵😬 David Garfield also sounds ultra fantastic. I'm in the belief that the recording is more important than the actual device playing it!🤯🤯 Heck Mr. Garfield sounds fantastic on my Samsung phone it's so good.😬

At 6:15 of this video you state it was a small room with barely any treatment..... That many drivers, with the bottom one using the floor for extra gain?? Big powerful expensive speakers sound horrible in small untreated rooms. I have to call BS on this review or any other review held in a small untreated room🤔🙄
@kingtrance307 Жыл бұрын
That seems kind of harsh. Gene isn’t commanding you to go out immediately and buy them. The review is decent enough and gives you a taste of the new model line up.
@okcyurwin Жыл бұрын
@@kingtrance307 hello, I agree, kinda harsh. Over the decades I've changed amps, speakers, DAC etc and had only changes in tone. Nothing spectacular considering the amount of money spent. Since lock-down I've been down the acoustic treatment rabbit hole and I'm now hearing more of my hi-fi equipment vs the frequency of my room. As you correctly treat the low frequencies the other frequencies are given the space to be heard. My equipment has always been gagged by the room response. I now know I've let go of some really good equipment in the past because my room was a not allowing me to hear it properly. My current equipment is opening up as I add room treatment. Room acoustics is a mind boggling science but even basic treatment in problem areas makes a remarkable difference to what you hear in your room. Different speakers in the same room will sound very very similar to the speakers you just took out🔊🔊🤔😁👍🏼
@kingtrance307 Жыл бұрын
@@okcyurwin - Funny you mention room treatment for bass response. I recently added a 12 inch twin size foam memory mattress bed to the back end of my listening room. This was only added because this old fella likes to occasionally grab a nap. Well it also ended up inadvertently making an excellent bass trap and being a great addition to the room! Running EQ software like Audyssey or Dirac helps too. I believe changing speakers can make a difference. I changed my front LCR over from Klipsch to Martin Logan and the difference is pretty stark. Big difference going from Klipsch horns to the ML AMT tweeter. Definitely a change but they are much more smooth and kind at least to these old ears…
