This lesson was recorded about 3 weeks after Vlog #1 and was the 2nd lesson since the first VLOG episode. I'm trying to document Mike's progress on his way of becoming a better guitar player under my guidance.

What is so unique about Martin's approach is that he is finding holes in my musicianship as opposed to just finding holes in my playing. But, he finds those as well ;-)

3 months down the road, how far have you come? Did it help you in terms of improvisation yet?

Yes, it has. However, Martin has found some more deep-rooted fundamental problems with my playing that are related to rhythmic subdivisions and timing. So, yes it has helped but there are some more fundamental problems I need to address right now.

It would be really great to see the continuation of this journey! We really get to observe specific challenges that the student has, followed by great techniques and analogies from the teacher that not only makes the student aware of the challenges but also helps him overcome them! I think the student is very brave for showing his learning experience, I think this series is very educational AND relevant, and I really think it should continue!

Its so important to sing your scales, arpeggios or whatever. You really get an understanding of intervals and where you are on the fretboard. Great lesson Martin..Love your album by the way..its really grown on me..very tasteful as always..

I love it when Mike sings along the scale and goes: "Daaa... daaa... daaa... oh..." :D Keep it up Mike! You surely will get there. Great lesson Martin. Maybe, using earworms to practice this could be a good thing. I've done that myself very very often. No matter if it was songs, phrases, chorusses or even the music of commercials. To memorize it (if it's not an earworm anyway) and then analyse it in the head is a very good excercise.

I liked this vlog so much ,i myself is a student just like Mike ...I wana learn to sing a melody to any chord and improvise with it,i think that's my end goal rather than any technical challenges on guitar...Waiting for vlog #5💓

Isnt it better to use the solfege notes though when you sing?i think its better when u associate a syllable with a sound....from example...Do mi...is a major third...Do me...is a minor third....when u sing them they ll always sound different and u ll have an easier time to file and store them inside your brain where the alternative...lalalala mmmmmmm oooooo eeeee that people randomly use.

Yes, there's another video (vlog 5) where I explain the similarities to Solfeggio. I just really use the number of the functions instead of "random" syllables: do = root, re = second, mi = third, etc.

martin are you jumping abit too far ahead perhaps? if a student can't get intervals confidently, how can he be expected to get 4 part chords w any accuracy? Hmm.. seems like alot of guessing on the students part as a result
