Dreamflight represented what I miss most about old Disney, the occasional weird attraction you stumble across that somehow becomes one of your favorites. It’s missing those non disneyfied attractions that are so much more unique than the character driven stuff we already know
@josephbrown96854 жыл бұрын
This is the perfect summation of what I miss about old Disney. Some of those old attractions were so quirky and corny but in a charming way. I particularly liked Dreamflight’s theme song. I hope at least some classic WDW stays around for a long time.

I miss old Disney and I don't know that we are ever going to get it back. I loved the mix of NON Disney stuff and "If you had Wings" is one of my most nostalgic and favorite rides. I don't particularly like the new rides they've come out with.

@@pilotbeckett nah it can never come back. unfortunately they don’t do anything that they don’t think will bring back a maximum return. it’s just cold hard business. The fun naivety of weird old rides where they were just trying things out to see if they would work is gone

By far the most important part of this ride is that IT WAS FREE and COLD! You didn't even have to use an "A" ticket. This ride had THE BEST air conditioning. That's critically important as you'd know if you've spent a summer outside in Florida. I loved the ride too. The speed run part was awesome!
@finster1968 Жыл бұрын
Yes! I remember this ride always had people on it continuously. However, because of the way it was designed, it moved along without the need for start/stop boarding. It was always a sure bet you could take a break from the brutal heat and not wait more than 10 minutes to sit down, relax and cool off. Later when they opened Epcot, Disney must’ve taken note since they developed even more rides matching this format.

I remember my good friend, Imagineer Tom Scherman telling me (1990) that he worked on some of the models for Dreamflight. Tom also worked on the 20K Nautilus walkthrough for France. He passed away many years ago, but was a 20K expert, and knew Harper Goff very well. Tom's dream was to see (in part, his) "Discovery Bay" realized at Disneyland.

interesting tidbit about the vocals: The theme song was recorded by Gloria Kaye (occasionally credited mistakenly as Gloria Bellis (her husband’s last name)), who did “New Hroizons” for Horizons, “we’ve come so far” for Space mountain, and the 1993 unload version of “There’s a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow” for Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress. For some reason though, when delta dropped sponsorship, they had somebody record new vocals for the attraction. Why I’m not sure. Contract? Availability conflict? Offer declined? Cost? Who knows.

From: www.wdwradio.com/2018/03/the-musicians-behind-the-music/ Another name you’ve probably heard is Xavier (X.) Hi Martin, this is a really good compilation of the history of this ride. Although the Space Ranger Spin is great for today's modern era, the Dreamflight still holds near and dear to my heart. I did see that you used my upload as part of this compilation, which I do appreciate since my grandfather (who was the one who recorded at that time) did occasionally stop the recording. I don't know if it was the camcorder back in the day or what since it was 1991, but the recording is as you had seen it. I do appreciate the credit, but just to clarify my username in case anyone has tried to look up my Dreamflight video, there is a 2006 at the end of my username handle. But regardless, great video and great compilation of a very good ride at Disney World. Thanks again!
