Marty Balin is one of the best male singers in the world and maybe the most soulful of all of them. His interview and band performance is a treasure, I love his songs!

Unfortunately, the performance recording is about as clear as an AM radio station one state over.

We’re playing “Getting to be that time of night again”. I’m in the white shirt behind Marty playing keyboards. My name is Kincaid Miller, and this was the first incarnation of the band before we got a new drummer, bass player snd Slick Aguilar (wearing shades) became our only guitarist. I was with a band from 82 through 87. Marty used to cover my songs and truly had a great voice. We ended up recording and EP. I think it was called “BALANCE t- A Collection”. Sorry not very good Audio on this one.

His ability to write music and sing with that great voice put him at the top of the rock world! He was a music purist-not about the commercial end of things. I had a lot of respect for him.

What a down to earth person he was. At 61 this is the first interview I have ever heard of his. In fact, I never knew what his non-singing voice was like. He was one of my 3 favorite violaists and his positive attitude just solidified it more.

Marty was a tremendous asset to my Life in the 1960s. Although part of the "Jefferson " genre he as an individual was a Gift from God. We should celebrate his life and accompmdents more often. - Scooterman

797/5000 Marty Balin, vocalist and guitarist co-founder of Jefferson Airplane, one of the biggest names in San Francisco's psychedelic rock in the sixties, my condolences to his wife Susan Joy Balin and familaires, friends, all fans dismayed at his departure from negligence of physicians in surgical procedures in previous years may have affected the sudden departure from an exceptional musician who is among "The Big Ones" in the Role of Rock in "Rool!" Yes Marty Balin is a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame God bless you, Jesus, you'll always be revered by the public, and warmly embraced! ", and now with fellow bandmates like Signe Anderson, first vocalist for Jefferson Airplane and Paul Kantner, founder of Jefferson Airplane, another outstanding musician.

Marty was such a interesting guy-he sounds like he knows exactly when things changed and how he picked up again. I never got into Jefferson Airplane when it was happening, I was to young. Now I'm old and have an opinion & I'm going to catch up with reading their biography's so interesting. Yes drugs back in the day were readily available and the people you hung out with and yourself would trip often. I made the mistake a couple times taking it ion pup night-not good you come across really weird because you are.

Great comments on here. He was the real deal. An artist in the truest sense, an original with an original style all his own. He was the opposite of corporate bullshit but he also hated musicians that became arrogant and self centered, usually due to drugs and getting away from the music.

One thing I'm pretty sure about, he got rich from the Jefferson Starship because they sold so damn many records and he wrote the big hits on most of the successful albums. So he could afford to talk about not really being into the money. By 1984 he was a multi-millionaire.......

Even with the terrible audio his voice comes through.

A narcissist with a thin nasally voice and a band in search of a groove, most players I know from the 60's are playing much more advanced music.

Marty sang the love songs. It was just a few years after this interview I suppose that Jefferson airplane reformed and put out their last record which was pretty darn good.
