There is a reason that Vince Gill says that Marty Stuart is his favorite mandolin player. Vince himself has chops on the mandolin but Marty is truly next level. In other words Keith, you know the skill set of both Vince and Tommy, now welcome Marty into the chat. Truly Marty is on that level, he owns it. I’ve watched Vince, Marty, and Brad Paisley on stage together and it is equally as impressive. Always love when great string players get together on stage. They just feed off each other, having fun, and make each other that much better.

Marty Stuart is pretty much a legend in his own ride. But yeah the guitarist was legendary. This was a great song and a great reaction gentlemen.

I would say "The Fabulous Superlatives" are a very appropriate name for Marty's band. He is a quality musician and I'm glad you have found the good stuff. He has lots of it. I am still waiting for his "Crow" song to come up on my driving playlist. Apparently I need to run longer errands. LOL!

It does my heart good watching newbies getting a big helping of real country. Marty Stuart is one of the greats, and there is a reason he calls his band the Fabulous Superlatives! Fun reaction, thank you.

Marty Stuart was 13 playing with Lester Flatt. He then played with Vassar Clements, Doc Watson before joining Johnny Cash's band. Was married to Johnny's daughter Cindy. He is now married to country music star Connie Smith.

Great reaction guys. I knew you'd love it. That is a stage FULL of talent, in my opinion. I've always been a Marty Stuart fan. He's from Philadelphia, Mississippi which is 25 miles down the road from me so everybody locally knows about Marty. I'm also a huge fan of Tommy Emmanuel and Cuz Kenny Vaughn. The Fabulous Superlatives were named after a flower shop in Philadelphia, Mississippi called The Superlative Flower Shop. The first time I saw this video it was 9:00 at night I kept replaying it. I would fall asleep for a while, wake back up and play it again ALL NIGHT.😊

I look it up so you don't have to; streamliner was released 2014 which is interesting as it aired on the show in 2013 with Tommy. The Fabulous Superlatives, Marty Stuart's band since 2002, includes him on guitar and mandolin, Kenny Vaughan on guitar, and Harry Stinson on drums, and from 2002 until 2008, Brian Glenn on bass. From 2008 until 2015, Paul Martin was on bass. In 2015, Chris Scruggs replaced Paul Martin on bass, and also played steel guitar. Every member also sings.[24][25][26]

Great request Donna. I did know about Tommy Emmanuel and that Marty is an OG in bluegrass but had never heard this. Great reaction!

Hadn't seen Marty Stuart play before, a real great tune. And, as always those bluegrass bands are all stars - but Tommy always brings a slightly different background - not being primarily a bluegrass player.

I commented on an earlier Marty video telling you guys to watch out for Marty as a picker, he's incredibly good. There is one out there with Warren Haynes ripping it up on slide with Marty and the boys too.

I know several people have mentioned a version of Earl Scruggs and Friends doing Foggy Mountain Breakdown. It has Marty Stuart on mandolin and Vince Gil on electric guitar as 2 of the friends playing. If you get caught up on bribes, I can send a bottle to have you react to that.

If I'm not mistaken, this was entirely improvised by Tommy on the spot. And yes, Kenny Vaughn (Cousin Kenny as Marty calls him) is a top shelf picker and well known around Nashville. The late, great Chet Atkins named Tommy one of his "CGP" (Certified Guitar Players), a distinction given only to a handful of players. Tommy and Chet collaborated on an album titled "When Finger Pickers Took Over the World". I could go on and on, but as you can tell, I'm a huge Tommy Emmanuel fan.

I thought he played more than just guitar and mandolin (I was wrong) and went to check, and found another couple things I didn’t know: he played with Earl Scruggs and Johnny Cash, was briefly married to Cash’s daughter, and Jerry Lee Lewis was his uncle.
@donnawilliams414811 ай бұрын
Johnny Cash once asked him if he played fiddle and Marty said yes. He says he played it in the band for a while, badly. He said one night (I believe it was Jerry Lee) knocked on his door and asked to borrow his fiddle. He said to this day he's never seen it again. lol

Kieth, have you heard of Marcin Patrzalek? He's a young Guitarist who does crazy things with his classical Acoustic guitar. When I first listened to him I thought there was no way he was doing all that with just his guitar, but I saw an interview with him where he demonstrated how he was doing everything. Absolutely incredible!

Top level band that is ridiculously good live. If you get a chance, go see them, you will not be disappointed. Their "Way Out West" album from about 6 years ago is the best new album to come out in decades (imho) - check out "Whole Lotta Highway (and a Million Miles to Go)". Marty was a child prodigy that got his start at 13 playing mandolin in Lester Flatt's (Bluegrass LEGEND) band. His next gig was as a guitarist in Johnny Cash's band. He is the current steward of Clarence White's original, 1st ever b-bender telecaster (also named Clarence). 'Cousin' Kenny Vaughan is a monster picker and top level nashville session player. There's a great KZbin video of Tommy and Kenny playing Bob Wills "Right or Wrong" from Carter's Vintage Guitars in Nashville.
