The original version is really popular. With that said, Marty isn't very popular himself these days. His old time fans knows him. Your average anime fan doesn't. Alfakyun is also a rising talent.

Marty sort of explains what you’re addressing here, in an interview. “Global” music doesn’t have much of a presence in japan, and likewise the music that’s popular in japan doesn’t really make it’s way out of japan much - according to marty. He also says that he is not popular in japan for his music as much as he is known to be a tv personality. He explains that many people may be surprised that he plays guitar at all as they may only know him from guest spots on tv. It seems to me that he would be better known but while he is a humble guy and may downplay some stuff, he no doubt understands japan’s music scene better that i ever will. That said, i’m not sure if there is a japanese language version but i was left wanting to hear it in japanese with this song.
