You listen to Satriani when you were 15, he blows your mind. As the years pass you discover new music, new players, study music, play more than 30 years, struggle...a lot. Then, after a really long time you punch his name on the keyboard and watch him play. There it is, you are HOME. You can't overgrow Satriani man, you just can't...

When I ws young, my middle brother and I never got along. One day, after school, he said 'c'mon...we gotta go, now!" I was confused. My mom & dad said - you better go with him. So I hopped into his white firebird with red flame stripes and he refused to tell me where we were going. Shockingly, it was a phenomenal car ride and we talked alot. We arrived in downtown Albany Ny at the Palace theater and the Marquee Letters blared "Tonight at 7 pm - Joe Satriani Surfing with the Alien tour" I screamed NO WAY!!!. Wow. I teared up. My first live show of Joe and it was awesome. Stu hamm there too. I'm 46 now, was 13 or 14 at the time and bought a bass when I was 12. Satch has changed my life in more ways than I can imagine and I've been a lifetime fan. God bless you brother, thank you for the most amazing, emotional music I've ever been blessed to hear. I actually like it better when a fantastic musical performance is matched with good lyrics and them switching throughout. Brothers in Arms, November Rain and Pink Floyd is a great excample of this. They become guitar solos, rather than ... whatever this is, but still. A guitar solo has the added effect of breaking into what the rest of the song has established before. I totally agree with your sentiment. In a reasonably recent R.Beato interview with Vai and Joe, Steve said that Joe sent him home from a guitar lesson because Steve did not do his homework - which was to learn every note on every string. Steve showed up, Joe said give me an F sharp on the B string. Steve said he shrugged, and Joe said come back when you’re ready. I got a kick out of that story. Re your comment, I’ve heard each of them speak about the importance of getting exactly what you want out of every note with every finger. Obviously, they have mastered exactly that.

I think I've watched this at least a hundred times. Then, I bought every one of his albums off Amazon. Some are coming from England. This time next week, I will have the entire collection. Feels good. Feels like 1:27

Yep, that man at 1:27 is the embodiment of many, many men in the world... I can see myself in that face of happiness.

Joe is one of the MASTERS of the instrument w/beautiful sensibilities creating intricate yet easy to follow melodies embedded in his techno-wizardry. IMO He IS the greatest living rock instrumentalist that lives, and has ever lived. How lucky we all are to be contemporaries witnessing his magical performances teaching us ALL "what is possible" Love You My Brother! xolox

Can music make you smile and cry all at the same time...? Yes it can and Joe's been doing this for decades. Just brilliant. Saw him in Toronto this year with Sammy Hagar, Mike and Jason Bonham. Wow!
