i feel like maru has the hotshotgg syndrome. His whole history has been people telling him how much of a prodigy he is. but when the big tournaments came he never one them which was the first issue. After a few more upsets I feel the nail in the coffin, was the greatest run in SC2 history gumiho's victory at the world championships. For all of us this was just a great moment but for maru... he probably looked at himself and can't stop asking. "man am i just washed?" He probably constantly doubts himself as the "goat" and you see it in his play

Maru isn't keeping up with changes from patches. His style of play could be successful since early all ins have lost popularity or feasibility. He's more likely to get to the late game I think the same of the last patch.

Maru takes huge breaks from sc from time to time he sleeps non stop for days and it takes a while for him to get back into shape after break. He's done this many times in the past lol doesn't mean his career is ending at all

Just remember, when terran is behind, they prioritize getting a 200/200 with the majority of the supply in .army They then trade and macro up since bio is very cost effective. It's always like this. Gg wp

Feels like Maru doesn't care anymore and doesn't put in the work. He's not studying or evolving with the meta. He's completely unprepared everytime he faced Serral lately. Uses super generic builds, whereas Serral had specific plans to take Maru apart on every map. Or maybe Maru's just lazy. Either way, hard to root for someone like that. Better to just not be talented then to have his kind of talent only to waste it. Maybe he's just ready to move on, and is still figuring that out.

Agree with the reason he's not winning. But he's had a long, successful career that's been lucrative. He's been top tier for longer than most pros careers. You can't call that wasted talent. He may just be near retiring and plays for fun today. Maybe he's taking a break. Only maru knows.

I have only seen this in 1 casting. Protoss just froze all of the other guys mining. It didn't kill it but it froze everything for a while and that harassment is crazy. I think Protoss should do this more often.

Stasis harass used to be popular, but it’s pretty easy to dodge for most pros, and most of the time, the energy is better used to just kill 2-3 drones/probes.

Only if you just look at the games Serral vs Maru - then yes, Maru looks like an amateur. But if you look at all the games, he is still in a good position.

@@davidm2031 He had a terrible placement by his standards at EWC, he lost to Hero (who is a great player, but he used to always beat hero) in master's coliseum, & he's getting wrecked by Serral everytime they play. It's not that Maru is now a bad player, it's that he used to be definitively top 2/top 3 in the world. Now, you can comfortably say Serral, Clem, Hero, & Maxpax are better. I would personally also put Reynor ahead of him (which is arguable). Maru is now in the Dark category imo, a really solid player, but not the favorite heading into any tournament.

Maru has reached his end of the road with SC2 imo. He doesnt play like he used to...He seems very passive and seems burnt out by the game. Since he has a good past record he still gets to compete, but I'm feeling his retirement for the game is coming near.

I would be interested to see how a Patch Terran like Maru would go without maps built to provide Terran offensive and defensive choke points. Similarly, the ability of a Terran to recover from failed early aggression by merely floating proxy rax away is something he relies on. Stim is a tier 3 ability for Zerg, and has no Protoss eqivalent - again, its something Maru the Patch Terran heavily leans on. And I havent yet got to ghosts, map hacks or free minerals from a T1 upgrade.

Why wouldn’t we attribute this to patch changes? Why is it when a Terran succeeds “nerf Terran” and when a Terran fails “this player is washed”? PvT is clearly imbalanced in Protoss’ favor right now, with over a 55% WR for Toss on Aligulac.

Just checked: currently its a 65% WR for Toss. Last cycle it was 55% so we’ll see where it nets out.
