+Utsav Pandya Baleno’s suspension has been tuned as a city run-about. It takes potholes and slightly rough roads really well. The higher wheelbase makes it less agile but that is the price you will have to pay for larger cabin space. Having said that, we found the handling really predictable. Another thing that impressed us is the steering unit. It’s light at low speeds and well weighted at higher speeds. They really have us impressed here as when we compare it to the Elite i20 and the Jazz, their steering continues to be light at high speeds. A huge thumbs up to the suspension and steering departments at Maruti for what they’ve pulled off with the Baleno. The ride & handling is spot on for city driving conditions and the occasional highway jaunts.

How's Baleno diesel? Just because of waiting period, I have booked 1.2 & 1.3 Zeta. As I see only 74bhp, how does it perform on road? is it too lag or irrespective of its power it does good? which one should I go for (petrol or diesel)? I am not worried about extra cost for diesel vehicle nor petrol fuel cost? I need information on pickup, drive, speed comparision. Appreciate your valuable response.

Hey Sashi, both engines suffer from the known turbo lag in this engine. Diesel is indeed more power and punchier than the petrol but none feels under powered. The choice of fuel type would depend on how much you drive. If you drive more more than 1500 km in a month you should go for diesel otherwise petrol is a suitable option.

Hey Aditya, I would like to inform you that baleno is much lighter than i20. Though it got 84ps of power but due to it's lighter weight baleno can definitely take over i20. In addition to this, I would recommend you to go with petrol variant as it fits best for the city conditions and perform a good job on highways. Rather, diesel variant is bit more noisier also it takes more than 2k rpm to come into action.

Maruti has truly delivered where it matters the most.While looks are subjective, its noteworthy to point out that the overall styling of the car is distinctive.Coming to the comfort, with the front seats adjusted for 6-foot adults,the rear seat floor is also relatively flat, though shoulder width is typically the two-and-a-half adults.The interior of the Baleno, to sum up, is spacious and well-equipped, and even well designed. On the handling, the chassis seems pretty capable but the steering feels a bit light in comparison. Baleno is extremely stable at triple digit speeds, it feels a lot more confident to drive. Do take a test drive before you make a final call.

Both cars are great to drive and have less maintenance and awesome mileage. However, Baleno has a lot to offer you as compared to swift. In the cost of Swift VDi, Baleno has a petrol variant which is 1.2 Zeta petrol. Baleno has better space as compared to swift and looks nicer too. If you wish to go for a diesel variant then you should go for Swift as the Baleno diesel is going to cost you more and if petrol variant seems feasible to you, then there is no better choice than Baleno. Rear looks and road presence are excellent. Front looks same as swift and its ordinary. same diesel engine as Swift is a failure in my opinion. Good safety in all variants is a welcome plus. Inside cabin space looks to be very good. All in all an above average product and it would have been an awesome product with better engine options.

Baleno and i20 do not have much of a difference when it comes to space or features. i20 has rear AC vents which is something which Baleno lacks, but it covers it up with a great AC. They have a difference when it comes to drive quality . Baleno is light on the steering and i20 offers you right amount of feedback and great for cornering. No it is not true. Baleno's gross weight is less and hence there are certain rumors about the built quality and safety. However, they aren't true. Baleno is based on a special technology for the first time by Maruti which is called TECT. Due to which Maruti was able to reduce the weight of the car without compromising with safety and built. It has scored 3 on the Euro NCAP test. Hence , you should not worry about it that much.

This trim has a huge package of features, which include antilock braking system, electronic brake force distribution, driver seat belt reminder and dual front airbags. The passenger comfort is also taken care of with the likes of automatic air conditioning, central locking, front and rear seat adjustable headrests. Looks wise, it is stunning from inside as well as outside with aspects, such as alloy wheels, chrome finished door handles and a sleek front grille. However, its interior has metal inserted front footwell illumination, door handles and a parking brake lever. This model gets an impressive braking mechanism along disc and drum brakes affixed to its front and rear wheels, respectively. Mechanically, it is very efficacious in producing 115Nm through an 1198cc petrol engine that comes with a DOHC valve configuration and coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission. Seriously, 200 kg lighter than the elite i20? That is really disconcerting to know. The only way you can reduce weight without compromising on body stiffness is by using composite materials which at this end of the price range is definitely not possible. So it's safe to assume that Maruti have gone for thinner sheet metal compromising on cabin intrusion in crashes leading to a highly unsafe crash structure. The fact that they have gone in for the lower powered fiat diesel engine accentuates the possibility that the chassis simply can't manage such kind of power. The car has already created a flimsy build conception in my mind.

Thick and strong body panels are not necessarily safe. Thinner panels are more prone to dents but they are not unsafe. In a car crash, the chassis and panels (are supposed to) crumple and absorb kinetic energy of the impact and not transmit it to passengers.

Power and torque that they generate are almost the same. i20 has got rear AC vents and a chilled glove box which unfortunately lack in the Baleno and Baleno has EBD which lacks in i20.
