I have a 2018 gypsy and got my Jimny in June . Frankly I am satisfied with Jimny. I opted for the Zeta AT model. I have done more than 10000 kms and avg mileage is between 14.5 to 17.5 depending on driving conditions . The ride quality is amazing . I have done some off-roading with stock tyres and believe me there were no issues on sand and mud conditions. Waiting for snowfall here in Dalhousie to see if Jimny is as capable as gypsy in snow.

Thanks for the views and FE figures. I guess 14-17 kpl for an off roader is very good. Helps in inching towards getting the Jimny, now that costs are reduced with the Thunder edition.

Mr Guru, I don't know if I'll ever buy the Jimny. But I must say you revved well, you were absolutely smooth with the acceleration when it came to the lucidity of your narration, there were no jerks with your thoughts, the headlights of your automobile knowledge shone bright and clear and you sat with good verbal support to your expressions and I, on my part, derived huge mileage as a listener. Thank you! 😂

Thanks for supporting our channel and content! We believe everyone has a different style and approach to their off-road and on-road driving. I am just more into the geeky side of things and chase understanding and knowledge rather than putting on a show for social media. Probably why this video has 50K views and other more brash videos have 500K views. There's a market for everything 😂

Bro.. Your review totally made it clear.. Jimny has been my dream car ever since it was a three door but wasnt launched in India.. I had delayed the purchase and fortunately got the thunder edition discounts and I am taking my delivery of the zeta Manual tomorrow .. But more over i have had loads of suggestions coming from friends and family for other cars in the market.. But I live in the mountains(Darjeeling) so i tested the car on an offroad trail and it blew me away and surely brought a huge smile.. no use of doing 100+ kmph cause its all about a car which can take you anywhere.. Congrats on your ride and maybe one day will catch up if i can drive to chennai . CHeers bro.. Your smile brought a huge smile on my face too.. God bless

Sir i seem to be in the same position as you were, had been following the three door version and was waiting for the same to come to india and as a add on it came as 5 door, yesterday I did the test drive for the first time and it blew me off both in city highway in shimla and small off road patch and btoh roads it managed amazingly. I have a gypsy king 2014. I wanted to ask one thing what's your local mountain mileage?? If driving on standard tyres and not offroad ones?????

Great real live user review Guru. I still remember your Gypsy videos back from 2010 when you had gone to the delaership to inspect your Gypsy before taking delivery. I got a brand new Gypsy in 2016 and Im glad that I did. I visit India every year and every time I drive this lovely 4X4, it gives me so much satisfaction and joy that my 535i does not. Keep up the good work buddy.

Thank you forsuch an honest & detailed updated review. In the U.K. I have had the original SWB version for 3 years, and most of your comments apply to this version also. I also drive a 2012 Defeder, but thje Jimny is far more responsive & even at my age, fun to drive. I just need the LWB version to make me really happy.! I live completely off-road, so a 4WD vehicle is a necessity, not a luxury, which is why I crave a LWB Jimny! I have also replaced the original tyres on the Jimny; the originals gave very poor grip on my track when it's muddy.

I have the manual. Only upgrde so far is the tyres: 215. The manual gives me control over gears. It allows me to still milk as much peppiness from it as possible. It doesn't feel as sluggish and disappointing as many AT users find it to be, who are rushing to get a throttle controller. I've used it on full load at altitudes up to 3500m. The only time I really felt the lack of power was while doing long stretches of steep inclines, where the car suddenly starts bonking and needs prior downshifting ( to first, even second at higher speeds doesn't cut it). My other cars would do the same patch easily on 2nd. now ill get a TC too and hope it further improves the responsiveness. Very happy with the decision to go for manual.
@gsrox2007
@gsrox2007 7 ай бұрын
Nothing quite like a good old manual transmission. The auto is definitely easier to live with off-road and you'll have fewer scenarios with a burnt clutch. The Auto also doesn't stall as much so less frustrating on the rocky bits. That said, the best solution is to have one of each eh? :) Cheers!

I drove the manual version, below are pros and cons: 1) Front seats comfortable, enough knee room 2) Suspension is Good 3) Interior front cluster is ok ok 4) Back seat thigh support - Big no : one cant sit for even an hour 5) Gear rod felt vibrating all along the drive : Big no 6) Noise from engine - can be managed if we used to it. 7) from back seat it looked like a passenger auto so it cant be your family car. For Hilly areas you consider. However some modification needed for back seat.
@gsrox2007
@gsrox2007 8 ай бұрын
Yes those back seats could have been better. All they needed to do was add a bit more recline, thigh support and a central armrest. The could have added 60:40 split OR two single seats considering this is a 4 seater. You know what? It'll be awesome with two single seats instead of this bench. Hmmm...

thank you for the honest feedback. I really like its size, the way it looks, the quality of sheet metal and the character it poses. The Jimny got its limitations like the 4 speed AT and lack of practicality in the cabin etc., and we knew that already, but what makes it difficult to digest is the pricing. At 18.3 lakhs on road for the Alpha AT, it is too costly for what it offers in 2023. Wish Suzuki had a better engine and gearbox to start with.

@@gsrox2007 Car prices in the Indian market are in a big bubble post Corona. Alto has no business being at 7.5 lakhs. No wonder the sales are dwindling for that. Why would anyone not pick up a brand new MG Comet for a little more and save a ton on fuel & service while having a much superior car?? Anyways, I think the bubble got a few big holes and it's going to burst in January, a lot of unsold 2023 inventory is going to bring the market back to customers.

Hi, came across your review and loved the content. I recently bought the Alpha AT and wanted to know how to buy the Ultimate9 EVC throttle controller? Searched the web but did not find any solid leads. Any help would be great in finding a trusted vendor/store for it. I’m based in Delhi. Cheers

Superb review / long term report, Guru. Honest words from a real guru, eh ? How would you rate the car for a 80/20 family use / occasional trip to buy ? Is the FE worth the smile on your face, at times ? Is it comfortable in the city with mixed good / bad roads ? I'm sure it's narrow width is a boon in tight parking spaces (one of the reasons to buy it), but does the large-ish turn radius defeat the purpose ? IS the auto really that bad with FE ? Can I expect 14kpl with moderate usage ?
@gsrox2007
@gsrox2007 9 ай бұрын
If you had said 80-20 on and off road, I would have said yes go ahead. Ideally 60-40/70-30. If you aren't going to go off-road then why saddle yourself with a Jimny? For the looks? For 18L there are so many options that will serve your family better. The Jimny is for taking off-road. In the absence of that usage scenario, the compromises outweigh the benefits. The rest of the discussion about the FE / Turning Radius are moot. Fundamentally you WANT the Jimny because of how it looks or the prospect of going off-road. I choose to live with the poor FE, apalling turning circle and space/feature compromises BECAUSE I go off-road every weekend. If my requirement was long-drives and Ladakh, I would have bought a more spacious and comfortable vehicle like an Innova/Carens/Ertiga.

Hi Very good unbiased review. How does the the EVC throttle controller affected ur mileage? Does it need an expert to fit the same? Does it affect warranty of the car?
@gsrox2007
@gsrox2007 9 ай бұрын
Completely diy installation. Takes about 10-15 minutes to get the positioning right and secure the cables with the provided cable ties. Mileage is not a huge issue for me but given that it encourages you to drive faster, you might see a drop in Ultimate modes. In passthrough, eco and adaptive, it is about the same as stock.

Amazing video. All your points were spot on. I've driven it for 1800kms until now. Have you tried using 95 Octane? It helped mitigate the low rmp knock induced roughness. The fuel consumption has also reduced by 1kmpl increasing the average to 10.5kmpl. I've been driving mostly in the city. Do let me know.

I'm more of a "fill it with whatever I can get!" kind of driver. I don't really get too caught up in fuel efficiency figures. Having too much fun at the moment. I'm more keen to try e20 fuel but these dispensers are hard to come by in Chennai at least.

Great review ! Ironically, I’ve just completed 3,000kms on my Jimny today ! I love it ! It just looks and feels like such a friendly car. I need to get the throttle controller asap, overtaking is a kill. Where can I buy the one you have ? For the dashboard tray, I would have suggested to go for the tray by a brand called Seiwa; it is just a heavy silicone tray without any adhesive tapes. It stays in place and can be washed too or removed (if you want to do away with it for a change of look). It has a unique phone stand design that does not obstruct the view permanently. I would highly suggest a splash guard sheet below the engine bay. I went thru some heavy slush and damn my engine got mud splash all over it till the bonnet. Spot-cleaning it was a nightmare ! Would not suggest keeping phone/wallet in the door handle cups. There is a cordura style elasticated bag available that slots over the gear box. Really neat and functional accessory. A couple of questions: 1) can we spray wash (at low water power intensity) the engine ? If yes, any major precautions ? 2) I am thinking of getting a LineX coating done on my bumpers and fenders. It will make them rock solid ! The question here - will this coating (front bumper) hinder my airbags functionality ? Thanks in advance ! And, enjoy the Jimny Life !

Congratulations on the 3K! I got my Throttle controller via Tapasviracing. Someone had shared the phone number on Teambhp. I will check out the SEIWA tray. I am assuming this goes on top of the instrument cluster? Engine splash guard might be necessary with the rains coming up. I could be wrong but someone told me these encourage rats to hang out away from the wet / flooded ground during rains and increases the chance of rodent wiring damage. I guess rats can find a place to chill regardless :) At the moment my phone hangs out on the instrument cluster storage unit. I want to add a magnet to this so the phone doesn’t bounce off when I hit a pothole.
@gsrox2007
@gsrox2007 9 ай бұрын
1. Can you spray wash the engine? I generally don’t do this unless it is extremely dirty but the user manual doesn’t explicitly say that you shouldn’t wash it. I tend to clean it without involving any water. I might use a damp towel or a dab of detergent worst case. 2. The Line-X coatings are great but they are much rougher looking than the finish you have at present on the bumpers. There is no airbag sensor in the ABS plastic bumpers front and rear. You need to make sure you don’t clog up the headlight washer units.

Thanks Guru ji for detailed review telling us crucial details no one has told yet... Need these questions answered.. 1. Can we mount a roof rack? Is one available. 2. Can the real suspension be stiffened up a bit? Is it advisable?
@gsrox2007
@gsrox2007 9 ай бұрын
1. Yes you can mount a roof rack but I am not sure what the load rating is. My research so far has suggested a 40 Kg load limit which is pretty useless IMO. It also adds drag and noise and shifts the CG further up which results in exaggerated body roll. 2. Rear suspension needs to be stiffer and with better damping. I am exploring Eibach Springs and Bilstein Dampers as I don't want to add any lift. The ideal situation needs to be a stock replacement.

Thank you for your support ❤ The Manual is fun to drive. It should deliver better mileage in the city but the automatic delivers better mileage on the highway due to the final gear ratio in 4th (AT) vs 5th (MT). You need an additional 400 rpm approximately in the MT to maintain 100 kph. The AT is also easier to drive off road because it doesn't stall. I would pick the AT if the budget allows.
