When Peter Parker made his first Swinging Web Kick I needed to flip over to Spider-Man as it’s a Hero Action (I knew this). The second time I kick you’ll see. ;) 14:55 When resolving Advance, I should have flipped a card for a boost. 17:00 Mockingbird when brought into play would stun an enemy. I missed taking advantage of this and later catch it.

Swinging web kick is hero action can only be done by Spider Man not Peter Parker

I’ll need to check the reference guide on the timing of this. Could see this being a FAQ type situation. But my understanding is the resource needs to be used right away towards paying for something. So timing when to switch forms is vital.

Great play through. This game will be huge, I hope. At 11:50:00 you used Spider-Sense ability on Spider-Man, it should trigger (for timing purposes) before the boost card. At 14:20:00 when you pulled “Advance” the villain schemes, when a villain schemes you must draw a boost card for that scheme. Do the same if an encounter causes an attack from the villain. 16:55 or so Mockinbird comes into play, did you choose not to stun the villain? 22:50 Enhanced Spider Sense would only have been beneficial if you were in hero mode. 29:33 Great Responsibility question. You cannot use GR to remove the 2 threat that is attached to the side scheme, it is kind of glued on. The extra +1 per player you likely could because it is being added/placed. 38:02 For Justice can’t be paid for with Peter Parker’s Scientist ability. For Justice requires you to be in hero form.

Hey Bob! Thanks for your thoughts and feedback. #1. That’s right, the card draw is before the boost card timing wise. #2. Correct in all instances of attacking and scheming a card is pulled. #3. Caught that one during the video and in the pinned comment. #4. When using a Hero Action this is true. #5. That’s another way I thought about it as well. The two threat come with the card as you mentioned. The additional per player are placed and could be removed with this card. I decided not to as it wasn’t enough to justify. #6. I just picked up Marvel Champions. I want to first give you a little of my backround. I am 67 years old been a gamer before it got real popular. I am very big on history and got started with the Avalon Hill Miiltary simulations. Back in the day I could pick up a game for $10 and it had 4 page rules. I did graduate to Advanced Squad Leader about 300+ pages of rules. So when I say rule book I mean book. My how games have changed over the years. And when I got into computers and internet their were no videos. It was all text. So I like the Comic Book Super Hero games. This has been popular so I picked it up and watch you video for the setup and part 1of the play through. I do like to watch other videos to compare styles. I just wanted to say I loved your set-up video, so I went to playthrough. I do want to say of all the video I liked yours the best hands down. And I think they are great for 1st time gamers and new to this game players. I highly recommend it.

I've been using this for my first game I've finally got around to winning. Very helpful and also clarified exactly that if I exhaust a hero to defend damage in villain turn, then I can't use them in my hero turn. Something I couldn't confirm of deny in rule book as far as I saw. During the villain encounter stage I drew a Hydra Bomber though with a choice of taking 2 damage or placing 1 threat on main scheme. I had 2 hp left and 6 out of 7 threat on main scheme. Exactly lethal for a lose/lose condition 😂

As someone else commented, you are awesome in your play thru's in that you explain what you're thinking, planning, and what is happening. I'm liking this game A LOT. I really enjoy LOTR LCG, but I could see myself enjoying this game more. I think FFG is learning what works well, what doesn't work very well from prior games. And, also from games like LOTR LCG have a good idea of what would work well as a new mechanic. As always, thank you for sharing!

I believe the game is a winner for solo players. It’s quick paced and lots of strategic decisions as you go along. There will be expansions and some have already been announced but I can see them building on the core mechanics similar to LOTR and Arkham Horror easily.

Did you do the first kick correctly? You used Peter parkers resource to pay for the kick. But the kick is a hero action and I don’t think that you can “bank“ the resource generated as Peter Parker to then spend on a card used to do a hero action while Spidey. Or do I have that completely wrong? Thanks.

Thanks for the playthrough! The game looks like a lot of fun. I would argue that Great Responsibility could be used to prevent the threat from being added to Breakin' and Takin' since it says: when any amount of threat would be placed on a scheme. Yes, it would totally negate the side scheme but you'd be taking 3 damage, which seems like a significant hit to Spiderman. Hopefully, they release some sort of FAQ at release.

Another thought I had after was that the 2 which is stated on the card when it comes into play has to go on the card and couldn’t be removed by GR. But the one extra threat per person could. It’s certainly interesting so I decided not to take an advantage out of it to be safe. :)

I recently got back into Arkham Horror LCG (and catching up to the expansions which can be pricey), so in my mind I wasn't really interested in another LCG. Then I watched your unboxing for this, the artwork (and the insert, haha) caught my eye, plus we get to play as not-as-popular heroes like She-Hulk. Then I watched the setup, which is really simple, and then watching this I realize how good this game looks! It's not out yet in my country but I'll definitely get me a core box! I actually like that you can play "one handed" solo with no issues (arguably, AH is pretty hard to beat one handed). And I hope to see more heroes down the line!

Hey! Knowing about Marvel heroes and villians certainly will fill in the gaps and add some background. If you're not really into Marvel, there is Arkham Horror and Lord of the Rings LCGs that could be good options. Best way to help with not knowing much about Marvel is to watch the many movies that have come out over the past decade or so. It would help!

Great video. Another thing you missed on your second turn was that Daredevil also does 1 damage to the villain when he thwarts, another reason why “‘ol Hornhead” is a great card.

This video is super helpful in helping me learn how to play this game. I'm super confused about one thing though; 30 minutes into the vid you exhaust Spider Man to defend, but the in the hero phase, at 36:25, you use a swinging web kick to attack while Spider Man is still exhausted. My understanding is that he can't attack while he's exhausted. Or is it that he can't use his basic power to attack while exhausted but he can still use cards he has paid for to attack?

I can't remember if this happened the first time you played the swinging web kick (if so, you were already on the spider man side of the car, so you didn't need to flip it over). The question I had is when you play the swinging web kick right after you attach the spider tracker to Sandman. At this point spider man is exhausted but you still play the swinging web kick. If he's exhausted can you do that? Can you still attack if a hero is exhausted? Thanks.

It’s a really fast paced game with a lot of back and forth. I’m enjoying it so far and thanks so much for the kind words! In the video I mentioned that the 2 near the bottom of the card plus the one threat per player is why the card starts with three threat. If playing with two players it would be four. You dont play the boost card. You just use the boost. Then you discard it. Then you play an encounter card. (which you did correctly just wanted to correct the many people that cant read a rule book)

The Helicarrier states chose a player, not chose another player, so it can be used for solo play. If you play it you can choose yourself, exhaust it and reduce the cost of the next card you play. I really enjoy your videos.

Thanks for joining the community here! Glad to have you. That’s certainly a timing question. They may have a bolder keyword that forces an attack. Otherwise they following the normal flow for when they attack. Hope that helps! I forget the keyword off the top of my head.

This video is so useful. Just one question. If I defend an attack with an Ally, does the exceedeng damage go to the hero? E.G my ally has 1 life left and gets attacked with 3, does the hero recieve 2 damage?

In the 36 min, can you use swinging web kick with spiderman being exhausted? If so, wouldnt that logically mean you can use swinging web kick and an attack in the same round (if spiderman were untapped)?

At 24:20 can you can't actually use 'Hero Action' (Swinging web kick) when you aren't in Hero mode. Page 13 of rules.. You're in Alter Ego mode, not Hero, and that card clearly says Hero Action....Peter is in his day clothes.

Ha, just played it yesterday after a long time and wondered why this scenario was quite a close one. Now I know: For whatever reason I put, despite playing true solo, always two threat on the main scheme 😅 In combination with Rhino scheming for 1 and with a boost sometimes even for 2 or 3 and a minion out I was several times very close to the maximum of 7.

@@RollingSolo Yes, I do. I like it's modularity, fast pace and quick setup. And you can have a lot of fun just with the base game (doesn't come naturally to a FFG LCG 😉) With a full time job and a two months old baby it's one of the few board games I still find time for every once in a while.

25:00 ish, Swinging Web Kick is a hero action. You must be in Hero (Spider-Man) form to use it. You cannot generate the resource from Peter Parker, and flip the card to Spider-Man either to use it.

When Mockingbird comes out her card said she stuns an enemy. Does that only count if there is a minion out and about and not Rhino? If that is the case, would it not have been better to just flip parker over, use his resource, get tenacity out there, and be able to defend as Spider-Man much more frequently next time, and be ready to deploy her as soon as some dump truck villain shows up? (someone is getting me this game so I'm trying to learn all I can)

If it says enemy: you could stun either the villain or one minion. If it says minion: you could only stun one minion.

Hi! Really enjoying your videos and the game! Confused at 21:02 - You reveal “I’m Tough” Boost from Encounter Deck, but you didn’t give Rhino “Tough” Status, as card says, “When revealed...” Can you please tell me why? Thank you!

Just re-read the definition of “Boost” and realize that you did it correctly! As a Boost card, “I’m Tough” only is used for adding to Scheme or Attack...and it does neither, so you discarded it without adding “Tough”. If it was revealed during Encounter Phase, then “Tough” status would have been added. This was a BIG help, so thank you again!

IN 36:00 you could attach Spider-tracker to Mockingbird, right? I mean, it doesn't say you have to attach it to enemy minion, so basically, since you knew Mockingbird is going to die, you could remove the thread in your turn, and get rid of the side scheme earlier.

Can you really use web kick when you are in alter ego form? Hero action means Spiderman isnt it? And can you use an action hero /alter ego card when the hero card is exhausted?

Hello! This was one I mentioned in the pinned comment. You can only be in hero form as it’s a Hero Action. It was a first for me to make that slip up. Later in the video I use web kick while being a hero as normal. Cheers!

So does Spider-Mans ability to allow you to draw another card supersede the 5 card hand limit? So you don’t have to discard another card in your hand to get down to 5?

Hey Eric! If you have Spider-Man active and you’re at the end of the player phase you can draw up to five cards max. Gaining cards after this is a-ok. Didn’t haven’t any times where I had five cards in hand when moving into the tail end of the player phase. Thanks for warching! :)

When you played mockingbird aren’t you supposed to stun Rhino? That’s what the card says In addition, how did Peter Parker generate resource when he was turned sideways and exhausted??

You're absolutely right about Mockingbird. Peter Parker's ability doesn't exhaust him, it's simply limited to once per turn instead. He does, however, play an event card with "Hero Action" while in Alter-Ego form, which isn't allowed. So easy to make mistakes, even though this game has really slimmed down the number of keywords and minute steps a lot of these types of games have.

In the beginning of the video you said that the energy you utilize to play daredevil doesn't matter. Can you explain the point of the different energies if they don't matter when playing a card?

When paying for card to play the number in the corner is generic and you can use any type to pay it. However, there will be specific icons on cards at times when it requires a specific type of energy. Hope that helps!

There are also cards that have an increased effect if you use a specific resource. Also there are habilities in cards that require specific resources

Ah gotcha! Spider-Man being exhausted only prevents you using his card for something else like Thwart. The timing is up to you on the actions you choose to do on your turn. Just have to keep watch of being in the right character form for certain actions and also using your characters abilities on their card at the most beneficial times. Cheers!
