He went against the Thought Robot Superman, who is the archetype of the Superman Story. He did appear again after Dark Nights Metal during The Unexpected. Mandrakk is incredibly powerful, making all the Monitors fodder to him whom they represent the an analogue of the writers and editors at DC. He even survived being erased from the Overvoid, which can erase beings at a conceptual level.

In the recent Jim Starlin's Thanos:Infinity Ending comic book, he got the control of all the Astral Regulators, which are present in all the Universes of the Marvel Omniverse. Even the One above All/Above All Others, the embodiment of the Marvel comic books writers themselves, has no control over these Regulators. Thanos, after gaining control of those Regulators, became the one with the Omniverse by absorbing all the Abstracts which personified it like Eternity, Infinity, Death, Oblivion, the Living Tribunal and even the One Above All. He somehow surpassed the complete Omnipotence of even the One above All. There are no levels of Omnipotence, so practically it doesn't make any sense to have Thanos surpass Omnipotence and transcend the Marvel comic book writers themselves, since he's a fictional character. But, that's why we call all of this as “Fiction”. It's just a mere imagination. And, sometimes imaginations don't make any sense just like this one.
