Not completely. People forget about Thor's warrior madness, which he keeps in check. When this in unleashed he is far more powerful!!! Being a Hulk is not why he wins. BRB tells the story cpearly his anger is now unbridled. The Gamma takes all the inhibitions off. People forget about Thor's powers. He has a smidge of the Superman thing where he often hilds back. Not sure how this fight can realistically be used to evaluate either of these two. Thor got juiced up on Gamma and became a Hulk, and Hulk got juiced up on Mjolnir and became a pseudo Thor….their respective combat power is all out of whack. Even with the comments about Thor holding back, the same argument could be made regarding Hulk.

I find it interesting that they give the "win" to Thor, when there truly wasn't any winner here. Banner/Odin Hulk were in control, not the real Hulk. This wasn't even a battle between Thor and the Hulk, but rather worthy banner and Hulked-out Thor. Hell, Banner was tossing "Thulk" around with mjolnir at the end there. But even so, the fight didn't have a winner at all, but a classic "everybody calm down" moment. And where did Titan come into this? Hulk was being held back by BOTH Odin and Banner to prevent Titan from coming out, so it seems like Hulk going all-out wasn't happening. This wasn't a fight between the strongest of 2 characters at all. If we look back at the fight, however, we can see Hulk when he was truly out giving hands to Thulk, and more than just holding his own. If they continued THAT fight and not let Banner and Odin take control, THAT would have been a more definitive result than what we got. Did the Hammer even power up Banner Hulk, or was it just there to use as a club? Did the gamma radiation, being imbued with the power of the one below all, power up Thor beyond his warrior madness, which Hulk has fought before, causing Thor to become more powerful than he could normally be? So many questions with no answers.

I have issues with this. This isn't just Thor vs Hulk. This is Thor's power, multiplied by the Odin force (he has had this for some time now), but his power is also multiplied by Hulk's ragging strength. Hulk is not enraged. This is essentially smart Hulk using the hammer. Yes, Odin is aiding him and allowing him to use Molnir. But this fight isn't one to one. It's not a fair representation of their individual power. And to claim that Thor was holding back in all of their previous fights, with different circumstances, is BS.

It was ambiguous at best. Thor's ability to increase his strength came from the Hulk. Without it this its just Thor entering the warrior madness which the Hulk HAS fought before, contrary to Beta Ray Bill's exposition. Also, he was fighting a caged up Hulk under Banner's control. Had this fight been against the Devil Hulk or the Green Scar Gavage personality, things likely would have been different. Also, even with all of these restraints, the Hulk with one arm ( funny how it didn't regrow immediately) still held his own and knocked Thor into the world tree. This fight had no definitive winner.

I believe what Bill meant was not that Hulk has never fought Thor while enraged, but that Thor has always limited his own godly might even subcosciously while in the presence of his mortal friends, even in Warrior's Madness. As we have seen several times before, Marvel gods are complex beings beyond normal understanding that have their own cosmology around them, and abilities innate to them. Gorr could tell gods from non-gods too, and that they held some sort of special power that made them so, beyond simple power levels. The same way Thor while trapped in the infinite vastness of the Tesseract managed to find the exit using his godly existence as he himself stated that his nature is not bound by the merely perceptible, that his might transcends his corporeal form and dimensions. Or when the Space Phantom tried to BFR him with one of his portals, only for Thor to tell him that his power has no effect on him because he is a god, and his own portal bounced back and BFR'd Space Ghost. Being a god is clearly more than a title, at least among the most well-known ones. That level of power has only been reserved for Thor-only runs, as Thor clearly fights very differently and with a much higher level of power during his own storylines than he does in Midgard, where even The Superior Spiderman could embarass him.

Thor never fought the Hulk when he reaches World Breaker rage levels and stops holding back. Not even the Sentry faced that and the Hulk managed to fight him to a draw BEFORE going World Breaker.

Thor was meant to be stronger. It’s when other writers started working on the issues they completely dumped down Thor in power just so hulk could stand a chance. If we look at Thor’s solo comic runs were hulk is not apart of the story Thor shows more power than hulk ever has or at the very least matched him. If look at Thor’s feats he’s beat the silver surfer in every encounter, destroyed celestial armor, reversed the flow of nine realms, smashed planets like pebbles, beat black bolt without much trouble, took out namor in the rain with one punch. Namor and black bolt are the few characters that have stalemated hulk. Shook the entire universe when he threw his hammer at galactus and created a rift in space and time with his strength alone. Hulks most talked about feats are usually cracking onslaughts armor or stalemating sentry, but those two fail in comparison to Thor’s feats.

I enjoyed the Banner of War storyline. I thought it was a fun up to date classic fight between Hulk and Thor. But as comic fans we all know there is never “one true answer” especially when we are talking about who is stronger. It all depends on the writer and the direction they want to take the story. Was this a Thor at his strongest? Yes. Was Hulk? I would argue no. If that was World Breaker Hulk, there would be a difference. But again and it just proves me point even more, World Breaker Hulk served the purpose that the writer wanted to take in that storyline. Love Variant Comics, you guys are one of the reasons I collect single issue comics 🙌

I don't know if I would say that this finally answers the long age question of whom is stronger. Hulk has always been known to get immensely more powerful as his rage intensifies. In this what if story, Thor has Hulk powers to some level. I would not say it was the same level as world breaker Hulk. We don't know if Hulk having powers of Thor made him calmer or more into control of his intelligence. The whole thing about Hulk is seeing him rage out and unleashed.

I don't think it's about the fight itself, but what Bill says. That Hulk has never fought Thor, the real Thor, the god. Only the Avenger, the hero. We can ascertain that by his own admission to hold back immensely in Midgard or in the presence of his mortal friends, and by the fact that Thor is a lot more powerful during his own stories than during Avengers runs.

Bruce Banner specifically said he has the hold back the devil hulk or it would be the end. Thor fought a banner controlled hulk who was trying to reason with Thor not kill him. This not a definitive answer to who is the strongest.

This doesn’t really answer the question. Bill says Thor was holding back in their past fights, meaning he’s the strongest, but Hulk also held back and didn’t turn into his more powerful forms like Devil or World Breaker. Donny Cates also keeps saying Titan, the Hulk’s Hulk, is the most powerful form of Hulk, and Thor definitely hasn’t fought him yet. Thor has also stated in several past fights that he wasn’t holding back anymore, and has even fought Hulk in Warriors Madness state, which increases his strength ten fold at the cost of his sanity, meaning he definitely wouldn’t be holding back. Also lets be honest. That statement will likely be retconed in the future. Possibly during their next fight.

That is true, but take it like this thor has become way more powerful in recent years than he’s ever been in silver and golden age which is around the time where most Thor V Hulk fights took place. There are versions of Thor that would absolutely decimate most versions of hulk including world breaker. This hulk in particular had Thors power and a Odin force imbued mljonir, and all Thor needed was something to keep him from completely holding back at all. Like bill said Thor felt empathy and compassion for the hulk and that can be implied to be mental blockers from him going completely all out, in the past Thor saying “I’m not holding back” could of just been his full power at the time OR a plot device used to add a feeling of intensity to their past fights. Not to mention those versions of hulk you mentioned didn’t exist yet when the majority of their fights went down. And even if it did WB hulk scales to sentry who has been beaten by thor many times.

I think pretty much every hulk story makes banner unique from all the others. Can still hulk out despite being depowered. Straight up over powers other hulks with a variety of abilities while holding back and the different personalities. I honestly didn't get that vibe that thor is stronger, I mean I got that thor is much stronger than fans give him credit for and that he is as top teir as they get. Hulk loosing an arm and taking a beating is nothing knew I mean that's what his body is built for the healing factor etc. I also felt hulk getting Thora powers was just so hulk wouldn't unleash his titan form and make things worse. I also think the bleed of titans powers affected thor also just like the people they though banner killed. Only definitive answer I got is hulk is a real problem and shouldn't be low balled. Hulk still has to much in the tank and didn't reach heart of the monster levels in this run nor did titan show up so I'm calling this a draw at best.

The fact that thor had to be hulked out to be stronger, I would not say hes stronger. Especially since banner never brought hulk to max power since instead he has a cap. This fight is the most we cant tell out of them all. Since they both got their powers and both were not fighting as they would. Hulk was not able to go unlimited and thor was not allowed to use his experience.

Hulk unleashed 3000 gamma bombs onto Thor turning him into a hulk and leaving hulk Melancholy not even angry anymore, Hulk was handling both Thor Odin and Ironman all at the same time, he was fighting physically and mentally and Thor was getting bodied before the 3000 gamma bomb explosion hulk gave off. It was a 3v1 and Hulk still bodies them at only level 8 and even 10 wouldn’t be his max since in the most recent recent issue Titan pushes Hulk beyond that and becomes a being that would be unstoppable to anyone in the universe. Hulk was sipping Thor before calming himself down and getting trapped by Odin again, also besides that fact it was banner fighting not savage enraged Hulk which if it would have been Thor would’ve gotten wrecked. Thor being imbued with World breaker strength gave him the edge when hulk having miolnir didn’t just gave him a hammer lol. No definitive winner but at the end of it Hulk is immortal and backed by Marvels Devil The one above all and possesses infinite strength as the beyonder has stated. I didn’t take anything that Thor was stronger then hulk from this issue. There are too many caveat is going on here. If anything I’m a little more confused about the power scaling between the two of these characters. I’ve always had the idea that Thor holds back in his battles and this is not the first comic I’ve read with this was alluded too. Him being able to rip the world tree out of the ground and dominate this battle is literally because he’s amped by the hulks rage and gamma power which if we’re gonna off of immortal hulk is directly linked to the one below/one above all. I think that is a bigger power boost then hulk being enchanted by the hammer. This battle could’ve been done better.

Similar to how there are multiple herald to Galactus but it’s kind of almost a foregone conclusion that Silver Surfer is the main one and in most cases depending on the story he is the strongest one due to the amount of power that is distributed to him. Is it not the same thing between the hulk and the one above all? We’ve been shown multiple times even in the immortal hulk run that the hulk is the strongest gamma mutate. When writing something like this detail to character lore and origin should count for something. I'm going to respectfully disagree with the idea that Thor is stronger than Hulk because of: A) Immortal Hulk established Hulk is the living embodiment of The One Above All's rage. There is no limit to his strength that he has not yet surpassed. In this story Thor was imbued with Hulk gamma energy, which radiates from The One Below All aka One Above All. B) Heart of the Monster Hulk established that version was the strongest there is. Free from restraint, the same things Beta Ray Bill said of Thor would apply to HOTM Hulk. Thats not true. Nothing in the whole Immortal Hulk run says Hulk has the "Rage or Strength" of TOAA/TOBA. He said Hulk is his counterweight to break. Pretty much what Galactus is. A being created for disorder. To break or destroy. You have to use inference to connect the dots. Him being a counterweight is him being the embodiment of destruction against creation. He also said he is necessary, which would explain why Hulk can't die. He is not like Galactus, who exists to keep the Celestial numbers down. And now if his sole purpose is destruction, and powered by TOBA, you would have to cook the books with a scenario where Thor beats Hulk, much less can kill him. There is no limit to his strength. Full stop. It grows in proportion to his rage, which is already infinite. He doesn't need infinite time, just sufficient provocation. Once he reaches a limit, it's easy for him to ramp up to the previous level. Example: Worldbreaker Hulk part 2 before he went HOTM, which is what would happen if Hulk were to build up infinite strength. An example of infinite strength Hulk: Cosmic Hulk used by TOBA. Thor having Hulk's gamma and "beating" the Hulk without Mjolnir is a further testament to Hulk's powers, not Thor's. If anything Hulk actually lost power because he created a gamma explosion to free himself of Mjolnir. This battle does not definitely answer the question of who is stronger. This all conditional. Give me Rune King or Herald King Thor vs. HOTM or Cosmic Hulk in an actual fight to the death then we can have a conversation.

Thor literally received power up directly from Hulk ( gamma explosion)- only a small portion of hulks power. He benefited immensly. All the impressive stuff Thor did was an exhibition of HULKS strength. Hulk powered down by weilding Mjolnir. No appreciable benefits of gaining Thors power. Actually he had to power down by agreeing with Odin to hold Mjolnir or else Hulk would have destroyed everything (Titan Hulk) after killing Thor. So hulked out Thor beating worthy Hulk is the same as Hulk beating Thor.

@@too_official6194 Its a nerfed Hulk. He never got any stronger due to Banner not allowing him to express his full rage or whatever the reason was i forgot. They took away his hack. Hulk is much like Superman (minus kryptonite effects) or Saitama meaning in reality they should never lose to anyone based on how the character is written.

What doesn’t make sense is Marvel has always said that Hulks upper limits are immeasurable. I realize Thor is a God but it makes no sense to there is no limit to his strength but then flat out say that Thor has always been more powerful because he’s held back. Need we forget that Thor has lost to villains before that he had no reason to restrain himself. Are we to believe that Thor has always held back over his millennia+ long life?

@@mitchcowan1446 I’ve been reading Thor comics for decades and I can’t think of many times he’s held back when fighting villains. There are countless examples of him fighting heroes and showing restraint, but I can’t think of any villains off the top. Also in this instance they are talking about physical strength, hence why Uatu refers to Hulk as “Strongest one their is, Worldbreaker…” they are framing Hulk as being known as the strongest.

I'm glad to see this happen honestly. Too many properties keep trying to one up each other in how many or how Powerful the Gods they kill. Its been too long since comics actually let the Gods in their worlds be Gods and its especially gratifying to hear Thor has been holding back all this time. Because it makes sense, when Thor first appeared in Marvel Comics he was mostly just supposed to be Thor of mythology. The twist was he was banished to Earth to learn lessons in humanity and restraint, as well as to see Odin confirm there is more to Mjolnir than that stupid Worthiness enchantment. This is the Thor I have been wanting to see for years now, the Thor who faught off Old Age with nothing but Brute force. The Thor whose hammer wasn't just "Only the worthy may lift" but that it was so immensely powerful that only Thor or someone of his caliber could use it without being utterly vaporized.

Not really, anyone who actually understood this fight can see that this was Thor vs Banner not Thor vs Hulk.... This was all Banner not the Hulk,Banner and Odin were the voice of reason while Thor was the raging monster.... Banner didn't even increase the anger level.

So a lot of people will get mix feelings about this issue I believe that Thor when he's done holding back, done trying to save people from themselves, he can beat almost anyone We've seen Thor and Hulk battling out a lot, in one issue of Immortal Hulk, Hulk wrecked Thor and the other Avengers In this particular issue BRB specifically said that Hulk never FOUGHT the real Thor, Thor when he doesn't hold anything back i partially agree In the event of Fear Itself, Thor fought both Hulk and The thing who were both under Cull's influence, and Thor won He send Hulk flying and made a hole through the Thing's chest Now i know some will not agree with this, by saying that Hulk wasn"t himself, that may be true, but he was still making use of his anger, was more brutal and at any point saw Thor as someone trying to help him, at the very last moment Thor stopped seeing Hulk as Banner who is a friend, Thor knocked Hulk out Let's not forget that Thor managed to beat the Silver Surfer by hitting him with Mjolnir which caused the destruction of a planet in which Thor came out unscratch He knocked out Galactus, in recent event he even killed Galactus He now has the full power of the Odin Force I believe that Hulk can beat Thor as well, don't get me wrong, but overall, if both are serious about fighting, no restrictions, using all their powers and might, there's 70% chance that Thor would win

Tbh, thor has always been more powerful than the hulk, and he should be. Tbh like, superman thor has more feats than anybody in marvel, including Hulk. I can argue thor has just as impressive feats as the hulk, if not better. I do think when it comes to the strength that hulk should have the edge, but honestly, there is no limit on the strength as well

I certainly rolled my eyes at Bill's "holding back" dialogue. The Hulk is *The Strongest There Is.* That's been his thing since forever. They can add and retcon as many pretenders as possible. But the _next_ writer will always make Hulk do something to retain his title.
