This is spot on. Star Wars is a perfect example of how 'cartoons' started affecting the buying habits of comic collectors. Now that is taken for grated, but even 5 years ago that was not the case. Also: Marvel / Disney are not stupid... ;-)

What a great idea how to educate kids and to steer them into comic collecting. Very interesting to see how if any it stimulates the comic world and great timing too with comic season getting ready to start

New information to me; thanks Swagg. Well done Marvel. Now write some good stories.

This makes me feel old. But I can't disagree! People are already trying to figure out what Gen Z and Gen Alpha will be nostalgic for, which is why the graded video game market has blown up recently.

The think that sux about a Marvel video game world, is that powers are gained by hard work BUT we know in comics books that the most powerful heroes get their powers by ACCIDENT! So, please let them bake some of that into the game.

I feel like people don’t talk about Marvel Snap enough and how they brought in a ton of not so popular Marvel characters and added a ton of comic cover variants from bronze and silver age books I can’t be the only one who searched these Snap characters and the cool variants and where they came from in terms of buying their first apps

I play video games. I have zero interest in Marvel Rivals. I don't think this will be the gateway for too many people into comics. Speculators will see to that. When little Timmy plays Marvel Rivals and sees that the first appearance of a character they find cool is hundreds or even thousands of dollars to purchase, that will kill any interest they might have had in trying to buy the character's first comic appearance.

I agree 1000%. Marvel Rivals has a Pokemon vibe.

I sold these for 50 to 60 during COVID... so anything selling for more than that now is impressive

This type of gameplay has never been my jam either, but with the Marvel IP attached to it I have to admit I’m curious

Love your optimisim, but I will not hold the same optimism as you. Here's why: First off, I do think it's an amazing job that they are implementing the info and link to these character's first appearances in this game. What a great idea to pull people into comics. BUT, the reality of these sales is that it isn't the children or the young adults that are buying these books off of eBay. Honestly, they would probably have a better click through rate from these gamers if that link went to a digital copy of the comic. Because the fact is very simple: floppy comics are not being consumed for reading purposes, and the younger generations do not "collect" physical items. They would rather collect "skins" of all of these characters on this video game. They would rather drop 100 dollars on new skins or the new new battle pass or the new season of Marvel Rivals rather than some dusty floppy stack of stapled together magazine papers. The people buying these books are people that don't play video games, and that are solely in it to either flip for a profit, or those few "collectors" that still haven't learned the ins and outs and hard truths of "FOMOing" over comic books. This is not sustainable, spec'ing over live action or video games will never equate to a comic book holding intrinsic value that will hold long term. In 20 years, the nostalgia will not be in Jeff the Shark's comic, but in the video game itself. I love that you brought the homage variant topic at the end, because it goes to show that the only thing (outside of variants) keeping floppy comics alive, is a slow-withering nostalgia that will soon become a whisper in the wind. The modern floppy comic is no longer an investment, nor is it a commody to be consumed for its original intent and purpose anymore. And that's just the hard truth. And like you said, the hobby we knew and loved is gone... but that's okay.

@@kyleroussel Sanity did quite well on both Kickstarters. And what dollar amount are you considering "Get rich quick"? Perspective is in the eye of the beholder.
