Overwatch is dying because of dumb choices blizzard makes. Promised us pve with story and a level up system and pulled the plug AFTER people put money in a F2P game They buffed and nerfed based off their Overwatch League instead of listening to fans. They focused WAY too hard on the Pro gaming league and thought that was their future when a good chunk of the fan base could give a shit less. You could write a book based on all their bad choices.

Everything else is quite literally worse than overwatch's peak. There's less lore, they've under delivered or flat out didn't do the things they promised (like the oh so draged out point of PVE). You can visibly tell OW as a whole isn't in a better state, even if looking at an older OW not at it's peak.

I mean OW2 has 6 million daily users in Jan 2025 while Rivals is averaging 0.4 million. So overwatch still has 15× the amount of daily players. In what world does a whole entirely different genre of game kill Rivals, people who want the hero shooter experience will just come back or play it simultaneously with gta 6 (plus it very much could not live up to the hype with the trend of classic video game series going downhill). 3. The "I like the girls" thing quite literally also applies to overwatch. I feel like a longtime overwatch fan should know that, they literally removed a tracer pose for that reason. 4. You don't actually give any reason on how it's a direct rip off, besides like hawkeye or black widow, which character plays 1 to 1 the same as their "OW counterpart" (even then, they play differently at certain ranges). Heck some character are genuinely fully unique in rivals like Mr.Fantastic or Wolverine. You're probably one of the people who thought paladins was a rip off. 5. Fortnite is still popular, but not as popular as it's behemoth of a prime self. Which funnily enough could be applied to OW more, if Rivals fell of the map (not entirely denying it couldn't happen, just that it's a bit more unlikely) it wouldn't be apt to compare it to Fortnite. This is from someone who only ever played Fortnite because all my friends were, the moment they stopped (heck some of them even didn't) , I uninstalled the game.

Overwatch is almost a 10 year old game, so it's understandable that people have gotten bored with it and mad at it because (OW2 happens). MR is fun to play, new, and trending, but like most games, it will likely lose popularity after a few years (5+ years) or when a new game in the same genre is released.
