okay so here's what I got from your review of this: 1. You're bad at the game 2. You played on PC and missed the "feedback" you get on console 3. You don't like that its third person 4. You don't like Overwatch (FYI hero shooter is a genre, and is not just Overwatch. Imo Overwatch gets worse with every patch, it was just a fun jump in jump out casual game back in 2016 which Blizzard excels at, focusing so much on the competitive aspects killed it for me and my friends. Still fun enough but I miss those 2016 days of chaos. Maybe even Blizzard thinks similarly since they are bringing back 6v6.

@@SilverRpr I believe the difference between casual and competitve fun is that in a competitve one, you're forced to fill certain roles because those comps has the highest odd of winning but not everyone can or will be able to run their prefered role. Because of this, you arent playing for fun anymore and simply to win in a lobby with randoms. Casual fun would be that the game isnt try hard and its more flexible with their comps. Aka you can run off meta teams and as a result more people can run the same role without hurting the overal team performance because it's a casual game designed to be fun and not teamwork based that forces everyone to fill a particular role. Dont know if this Marvel game will be labled as casual tho because I feel like certain heroes are definitely stronger than others and if you dont play those heroes, you will get destroyed, aka no fun.

This video REEKS of being written by someone that played Overwatch in it's prime and then never touched it again. As someone who loves hero shooters and still plays Overwatch almost every day, I love what I'm seeing from Rivals and I absolutely could see myself playing it over Overwatch. I have many friends who were not as resilient to all the terrible stuff that's happened to Overwatch over the years and have not played with me in ages and THEY are super excited about this game and we finally have something we can play together again. There was simply nothing on the market that completes with Overwatch directly and is good enough to pull me away from that game until I played this. There is a spot in this video where you question 6v6 in this game and almost try to argue that less people would be better in order to remove some of the chaos and clutter. You also mention that OW is just now thinking about trying 6v6 again because, in your words, the change to 5v5 was deeply unpopular. Let me tell you, it's not just because it's deeply unpopular. It's because 5v5 fundamentally does not work and the dev team does not know what to do about it. The team at Blizzard has been struggling season after season to try and balance this game as a 5v5 shooter and it just does not work. The entire game now centers on the team's one tank. A couple seasons ago tanks were just being abused. The entire focus of the enemy team was to kill the tank. Once you kill the tank you win the fight. You got focused so hard playing tank felt more like playing a wet paper bag. You just blew up every time there was a fight. To fix that they have been steadily buffing tanks across the board and now it's at a point that tanks are so overpowered if you have a tank on your team that is better than the enemy tank you simply win the game. The other 4 players on the team do not matter. In 5v5 with one tank being as important as it is there is zero space for your tank to be sub par. The entire weight of the game is on their shoulders and no one wants to play the role. People, especially right now at the height of all these issues, really really want to play an Overwatch-like game that isn't Overwatch. And with the brand power behind Rivals, I could see this being the one as long as they don't do something super crazy with the monetization system.

This!! As soon as he said Star Lord's flight was like Pharah's, it instantly dawned on me that he most likely only played Overwatch 1. And maybe not even late into it's lifespan. If anything, Star Lord's flight is closer to Echo's. That said, Overwatch did not invent flight so Marvel Rivals using flight on a character known for flight shouldn't be "a copy of Overwatch" argument.

I think the comments made about Magneto's abilities are sorta made in bad faith. Sure, his wall could be all metal, but that could be a problem when it comes to line of sight and having vision of what is in front of the shield. The same with his gifted shield. Plus, his power is MAGNETISM, not metal manipulation, so his shields could just be a visual indicator of magnetism for bullets. Also, his ult being named Meteor M and critiquing how it isn't a meteor is weird cause Doomfist's ult is meteor strike and the dude isn't a meteor.

I don't understand that at all. Also since Overwatch is newer, better known both in general and as an esport, and clearly the game that's being ripped off here in terms of aesthetics and level design, I don't think your point is particularly relevant - of course he's going to reference the game that this is deeply derivative of rather than the game that codified its genre. The way I see it, the shield is more of a visualization of an idea. Magneto can stop bullets with his powers in the comics/movies/etc without a shield, but if they just let him stop bullets without some sort of indicator that he was doing so, it would be impossible for the other team to know that was happening. Same with the bubble, sure they could have put metal armor on the heroes, but a bubble is much more clear for what's happening. It's honestly like SkillUp and other reviewers aren't taking the time to understand why the devs are making these decisions and just making knee jerk reactions like "Oh, it's not exactly like in other media, i don't like it"

Some of that's fair but a lot of it comes down to basic quality of animations/sound effects which you wouldn't expect to change much with updates. You really shouldn't have talked about what OW players would prefer or even like without having engaged with the game In *years.* OW2 is in a very dire state, folks are fed up with the game for a variety of reasons (balance, monetization, cancelled content, to name a few). Rivals, though not as perfectly tuned combat-wise (feedback on hits and shooting is near nonexistent lol), has come at a REALLY good time. Every major OW creator I follow has given this game a shot, so it's being embraced by a section of the community for sure. Whether or not it sticks for launch and post-launch, that's tough to say. But this is not some easy W for Overwatch. It would've crushed the competition, had Rivals released years ago during OW's prime. Right now though? The time is pretty ripe for new hero shooters to pick up the slack OW has been dragging in the few years since 2's launch. I especially enjoy Rivals' focus on committing to each hero's unique quirks and gimmicks. Like how Iron Man can just stay in the air at all times. There's no strings attached like Echo or Pharah. Or how Spidey can swing around and has a learning curve to his mobility similar to Ball or Lucio. I also disagree on Magneto. The majority of this game's heroes have power and ability sets that draw heavily from comics. Not the MCU. Magneto is the master of magnetism, not metal. His magnetic fields and abilities reflect that perfectly.

@@speedboy9652 There's not much you can do with this formula, just look at Overwatch itself trying to force 2cp, then the stupid (and gigantic) maps were you have to escort a robot, even larger maps with 6 points scattered, the "clash mode" who was tossed aside in a month because everyone hated it (basically you have three squares, conquer the square, move to the next one, the enemy conquer that square, go back to the previous square, etc.. it's horrendous, braindead tug of war). The identity of Rivals is the third person camera + intense melee, simple as it is, it's literally impossible to design a character like Spiderman in first person... and Spiderman is the main character of all Marvel, you just can't leave him out, so here we are. What else you can do with this camera, who knows, remains to be seen

I think third person shooters always had the advantage of showing the character models interacting with each other, Rivals feels "floaty" and weird, there's still a lot of work to be done, but you can already see those kind of interactions that improves the presentation in a dramatic way. As for the gameplay, the only noticeable difference is how melee can be more engaging and Rivals was able to emulate the shooting mechanics of Overwatch, like Adam shooting volleys of projectiles like Zen, Luna Snow hitting a hard stun like Ana, etc.. so you can have the best of both worlds with the third person camera if the devs are good enough and, to my honest surprise, these NetEase devs proved their worth, the gameplay looks solid, all the characters are fun to play, even the so problematic "tower" (Namor) and heal bot (Luna) archetypes, they are engaging somehow, which is something that Overwatch struggles even to this day, no one plays Torb and Sym, Lifeweaver acts like a heal bot who gets in the way, etc.. if the NetEase devs can figure things out this early in development, the sky is the limit for them

To rotate around his clones is more like a defensive strategy than anything else, to escape dive (and focus fire with the clones), so much so it's hard to unlock his achievement of killing a enemy with a backstab because Loki is so fragile (and ironically it's also hard to unlock the Hulk achievement because Loki keep teleporting around and his aoe makes him invincible for a while)

A big reason why Overwatch went 5V5 is because everyone wanted to play Damage roles, and no one wanted to play tanks. Before Overwatch 2 launched, Damage queues could be 20 minutes long, while tank players could get a match within 30 seconds. The devs even tried bribing players to play tank, but they found that that the only way to reduce queue times was to make tanks stronger and only require 1 per team. Overwatch also introduced a strict role queue to make sure that each team has a balanced variety of roles. This is because before this was introduced, most games were won or lost before players even left the spawn room. Already when playing Rivals, teams usually win or lose depending on whether they have a well-rounded roster. I suspect that if Rivals wants to be seen as competitive, it will likely go on to make all the same mistakes that Overwatch has made over the last 8 years.

The major criticism of Marvel Rivals, everyone is saying the same thing: the game feels "floaty", Hulk and Thor melee doesn't have any weight, the hammer doesn't sound impactful, etc.. the game needs a lot of polish, it's at least one year away. This game is not trying to be overwatch. It is NOT an fps this is intentional, it changes the entire dynamic of how you view the battlefield at any given time. The game plays far closer to a Mona brawler, something akin to smites arena mode or battlerite. It is a lower cooldown more spammable game, health bars go up and down frequently with no break time and at high levels of play it is very tight when the edge to win a fight after 20-30 seconds is a well time namor ult in respose to a venom dive or punisher ult. This game is all about team play and timing, not hero moments. Very different games even with the similarities, no one calls dota 2 league or valorant csgo. These are different games try playing them differently.

Overwatch "2" changed the sound direction and that made the game chaotic at first, in the crossfire for no reason Mercy spitting one liners whatever she was healing or empowering someone. You have to get used with all the characters, voice lines, what they can do, etc.. it's unfair to expect the game to be visually clear right at the get go, we are all experiencing new stuff, Thor and Jeff were released literally yesterday. Luckily, I do think the game is showing glimpses of good design because it's super easy to learn these characters (if you already have experience with Overwatch) and they are all fun, but at first you will be killed by Peni Parker's mines and you will not understand wth is going on

As an OW player, I actually disagree with this one Skill Up. Wayyyy too much focus on OW from the get-go and not even on the current version of OW. Worse than Overwatch in every metric? Hell no. The TTK is much better than OW. I'm sorry but OW players have complained for years about everlasting gunfights. It's a breath of fresh air to be able to finally kill someone after you shoot at them. Second, you can carry solo way better than in OW exactly because of lower TTK and support characters not being completely broken. Which makes the game more fun for OW players. Third, 6v6 is much better than 5v5. Fourth, visually the game looks better. It's obviously a newer game. And fifth thing, I'm sorry but the abilities and how some of these heroes function is actually better exactly because it doesn't hog the game and it's more straight-forward. You're talking about a lack of complexity in team-play? What? How? It's the same game. The only reason OW appears to be "complex" is because we are forced to hold 10 minute gunfights because of a meta that revolves around certain support heroes which completely break the game. I don't know if you touched OW recently or you're aware of what's going on with the game in the last 2 years but OW has gone backwards. I fail to see how you can make such commentary on Marvel Heroes. Sure, it has it's issues. Like some heroes are underwhelming lore-wise (Magneto being a good example). But to claim this game is worse than OW in every metric is disappointing to hear. It really showcases you haven't played OW in the last 2-3 years at least. Also, people like myself are fucking bored with OW. It's just a done game for me. I've seen it all in it. And the fact that it got worse... why would I care about OW anymore? I'm so happy I finally have something else to play. Something that's actually good and has staying potential. Not to mention how unfamiliar you are with the Marvel universe. Like holy shit I'm sorry man but this is one of your worst reviews and one of your most uninformed and unprepared videos you've put out. I don't even know what you thought making this...

I'm going to definitely play this because it's a lot more casual version of Overwatch, it was the main reason I didn't last long playing that, and with the more frantic gameplay with short cooldowns and many abilities, I really like how this looks.

I wasn't looking for anything new or unique from this game. Overwatch used to be one of my favorite games, but Blizzard ruined it, and this game captures the feeling that Overwatch used to. That's good enough for me.

The caracters, world, art direction are also important as the gameplay. A great part of Overwatch success was the art direction and rosters of characters, not only as mechanical but as world building in the artistic way...

2016 Overwatch was arguably better, but current day Overwatch is definitely not. That is especially true when it comes down to actually having fun.

7:00 This portion of the video makes no sense and is entirely irrelevant. Overwatch did not invent dual-weilding. They didn't invent flight. They didn't invent energy shields. They didn't invent spinning in place and firing a weapon. Etc etc. So to equate all of those things to overwatch simply because they implemented it before Marvel Rivals is simply an overgeneralization of thier similarities.

Alright, we need to just settle this. Every game company with a hero shooter has to go open source and share. Characters, abilities, game modes, maps, all in one melting pot. Reinhardt and Venom vs the trash robot from Concorde on King’s Canyon from Apex. We then, as a community, play 10 million games of it, decide what works best, and that’s it, that’s The Hero Shooter. The battlepass is $700 every two weeks for a 1/100 chance at one skin and a voice line for Winston.

I wanna point out that this has been made from the point of view of someone who stopped playing Overwatch 5 years ago or probably even longer ago. And all the Overwatch clips shown in this video are from the first two trailers. Overwatch isn't the type of game it once was. It's absolutely terrible nowadays. At this point Marvel Rivals straight up feels waaay more fun than Overwatch 1.2 and when you check out Overwatch streamers playing Marvel Rivals they are all in love with Marvel Rivals. Rightfully so. As I said. It's an incredibly fun game with powerful heroes.
