Flying characters are really bad because it's hard to find cover up there and they get countered hard by all the shooters (hela, punisher)

You're 100% right. They don't have much room to work with regarding cover and tactics. Even when I play Cloak and Dagger, throwing like 2 basic attacks at a hovering IronMan usually sends him running for cover!

I play iron man and storm. I usually can find some cheeky corners or pillar to hang around. Ironman can boost out of there. With storm it's a bit harder but she moves faster with wind but I love the lightning and using the storm above people so she definitely more vulnerable.

my worst fear in a game like this was making all the main heroes most people know and love underpowered and countered, while the ones no one knows, plays, or cares about but have very similar playstyles to other games immediately busted and overpowered and it is looking like thats the case here

There is all to be said but I agree that characters in the game should be powerful. If it is about power fantasy then some of the characters should be way powerful. If it about balancing then the argument should be thrown out. I seen people say they don't want any characters nerfs in the game but then certain characters should be easy to use and harder to use based on aim. When using iron fist why should he be able to melee track opponents than spider man? They both should have it. Venom in the comics is very durable and depending when in the comics he had camouflage if the devs have a certain vision for the characters I would to know it because it can conflict with how certain characters should be powerful than others in the comics.

I think they're worried about long queue times once they introduce role picking, but honestly, it’s impossible to heal five teammates while getting picked off from behind by someone playing Spiderman or Iron Fist. I agree with you, it feels like some characters are just dealing way too much damage. Once the meta settles, the honeymoon phase of the game will end, and people will start to realize the uphill battle Blizzard has faced for years trying to balance Overwatch. With so many characters that are so different, it’s nearly impossible to make them all feel impactful but not broken or weak. Personally, I already know I’m not going to enjoy competitive play once the meta locks in. Sure, I can play whoever I want, but only if I don’t care about sweating it out to win.

Well said. Appreciate your view. I think at its heart this game is more "casual" and not trying to be the next CS:GO eSport monster, and thats fine. But it can still be frustrating to have wide game imbalances. We will see how it all plays out!

I mean not ENTIRELY useless but not as impactful as I would hope. I've started using it more to push through chokes and hope my team uses it for the heal more than trying to damage opponents. Sometimes you get to do both. Game has a lot of mobility though, easy for people to escape out of it!

My buddies have tried Dive Comps on both offense and defense and it just doesn’t work imo. We just alternate our defense comp by switching off of Peni and Groot for Magneto and Strange and we’ve had infinitely more success.

Another thing to note is that there are WAY more dps than Tanks or support. Tanks also have less impact because almost none of them have Hard CC.

I think tank is just the hardest role to play right now. Many of them are melee and so its hard to know when and how to go in and not over commit and i rarely see anyone even playing tanks. Im usually forced to play tank because no one plays them. I think the tanks are really fun and good though i hate being forced to play one every time. But people just need to play them more to learn.

The way I see it, the core solo queue problem with a game like this is that it's designed around requiring certain roles for successful games while those roles have so much less personal agency for the outcome of the game. You need healers to win, but at the same time, playing a healer is just a coinflip in an uncoordinated team. If you play dps and are good, you can go on a crazy "I just killed everyone and won" rampage, but if you play healer, your entire gameplan is "man I hope these random people I got grouped with are better than the random people on the other team" because your personal skill can't overcome a skill or coordination difference. Don't get me wrong, playing support in a coordinated environment requires a lot of skill, it just doesn't translate to solo queue as the role is worthless without coordination and skilled team mates. This leads to so many people feeling "forced" to play support, when they would much rather play a dps and feel that what they do in the match actually affects the outcome. I'd one million percent rather lose a game with the feeling of "yeah I didn't play that well enough" rather than "I did everything right but my dps was worse than their dps so we lost anyway".

I feel what you said so hard! During the CBT I realized I could really support a team and help in support, but if I focused on dps and got good at managing my health, then I could possibly win more games. It was too many games with dps that get less than 5 kills. I still mainly play healer or tank, but if I'm primarily solo queuing, it may be time to focus on my dps game. Good luck with your games!!🍀

I spent most of my time playing Storm since release and she is really interesting because she really is more like a support than a dulest, if you are getting too aggressive on her u’ll get punished, but if you focus on doing what damage you can, boosting your team and staying alive she is SO underrated. Also has a fight winning Ult.

Namor and Magneto not being to fly is honestly bummy. When characters like Iron Man and Storm can go uncontested in the air for so long without consequence it poses a problem. They need to give those two(Namor and Magneto) the same treatment. Namor and Magneto only getting a glide/slow fall and their "flight" being limited to an ability is a dropped ball. My honest suggestion for a solution, If Magneto has full magnetic charge he can fly until charge is used. Give Namor a super dash/double jump or retool his water shield to give him perma-flight until he touches the ground.

Thor is underrated. No one really knows how to maximize his potential yet. I switched to him just to try him out. Compared to Vemon, Cap, or Hulk, he has a lot of versatility. If only Rune Awakening had a movement speed buff and Thor should have a passive float like Magneto.

I’d think groot and venom would be top of tank meta but surprisingly Dr strange shows up 4x as often at the top of the NA leaderboards probably cause his shield is equal to venoms max shield but he can also directly protect tm8s plus his ult being insane

Yeah it's too much. The math is too high for how easy it is to hit the target. Playing as a Vanguard right now is just horrible at the "tryhard" ranks and that will trickel down in time as people catch on. Hela is the most aggressive example of overtuned for her total kit :( hopefully nerfs come!

Yup very difficult to play them. Only being really coordinated seems to have any sort of success. You're better off trying to play Psylocke and stealth, try to kill someone, and dash the hell away. It's rough!

I'm still at a lower rank, but my Venom is doing great. Swing, bash, slow, chaos. Shield for extending the chaos, swing back to safety, repeat. In the middle of chaos, some support pickoffs and some duelists too. Venom is just amazing.

Flying characters have it very hard in this game. The devs should give flying characters higher base or increased movement speed or more movement/defensive abilities. I think it’s weird Storm doesn’t have a movement ability like Iron Man does or that she has a AOE wind push back ability to get Iron Fist and dive characters off of her. She’s a mosquito waiting to get clapped in the air.

Haha I had a soft spot for Namor in the CAT and CBT. Loved him. One of the funnest ults too. His attack hitboxes are generous. I think he is fine, if anything I think his damage is kind of where I'd want the standard to be!

I believe it will be against 6 man stacks as well unless queue time gets outrageous. I've seen teams queueing up with 4. Apparently you cannot queue with a 5man currently.

I love playing him. I'm trying to make it work. So far I think for balance changes I'd trim 2 seconds off his shift ability and 20 seconds off his passive. I do like your 8m a second movement speed idea though, that'd be sweet!

I would assume more people are playing those range damage dealers because it’s an easy transition from their previous games. Where characters like Wolverine, and Thor are completely new and will take time for people to get used to.

I main iron man cause he usually never gets picked you have to play him smart learn the maps and where the health boost are utilize your flying ability to maneuver and keep an eye on your support if you have one and keep them alive and they’ll keep you alive … a lot of time I distract people they focus on trying to hit me in the air they ignore the ground and my teammates swarm em and then when attentions off me I rain fire from above

I just played 3 ranked games for the first time and had to go support every game and all 5 dps, I’m the only one that realizes we can’t just have all dps and win anything, then they get mad at me cause I’m not healing but have 16k in heals and 16 kills with 9k damage, we need some type of role lock que or if there’s already 2 picked on dps it’s locked, 2 dps is enough for any team layout and sometimes don’t need need a dps with how versatile and good the supports are but for some treason no one wants to play them cause there not “cool”

It’s strange because against certain DPS characters you just can’t stay alive, but certain strategists seem damn near impossible to kill, and if they pocket a tank you’re screwed if you don’t have Hela or Hawkeye. Groot w/rocket or Jeff is a nightmare especially if they also have a Peni and your team isn’t targeting her deployable thing. Iron Fist is incredibly frustrating on console at least, and a good Spider-Man will pick off a healer without you even noticing he was there.

I think iron man is much better than people think, as I have one tricked him into gold now with around a 90% win rate. Granted I know that doesn’t sound high, but it is the 99th percentile currently. I use him as a flanker with 90% beam usage 10% blaster. There’s lots of aerial flanks to find a healer and beam them down before the opposing gunners even realize you’re there. If you add hulk team up into the mix, he can carry a game on his own, at least that’s my experience thus far

@ Generally the key is to find a flank route to the back line that would force everyone to turn around to fight you, then wait for your tank to initiate to attract their attention, this is when I go in and beam the supports. If they do manage to turn in time before you can pick one off, make sure you have flight charge saved to quickly bail on the engagement. Rinse repeat.

Every ranked match I've got into is a loss. No comms whatsoever, it seems every other match the voice chat is deactivated. Solo queuing has become a waste of time at this point . Is there a Facebook page or discord for this game yet? I'm trying to find people to play with.

maybe give helas primary fire a range falloff but her ultimate is what annoys me. It lasts so long and she has so much hp that its almost impossible to shoot her out and even if you do she has full hp when she gets out of it. It also gives her wall hacks and does a shit ton of dmg.

Yeah when you breakdown her kit its like wow.. she is NUTS. A damage falloff could help a bit, but she even shreds divers so fast which is part of the issue. I think a base damage nerf is required for her.

Very solid. In my experience so far, sometimes my healing is irrelevant. My teammate will get 2 tapped instantly before a single heal can touch them. Depends on a lot! 8-2 is fantastic though

Moon is a real hard hitter I played him a couple of time tho I main venom but few times I played him I killed 3 duelists in few seconds their are situations where he can melt down health. He has a strong ultimate also and alot of aoe that can benefit from groots ultimate. Also cloak and dagger give moon and ability with invisibility field .

The Magik/Psylocke teamup is so nutty. Psylocke getting the recall is crazy but just the Magik causing such a big distraction opens the door for Psylocke to pick someone. Love it. I can see the meta heading that direction if some ranged duelists get nerfed!

@@Sylvus66 yeah, my buddy didn't even use the recall the entire night we played, we just kept cooking. The 15% damage boost for Magik really helps secure kills more easily too. My only gripe with Magik is the inconsistent hit detection on her dash. Sometimes I'll dash into and through someone and the knock up just doesn't happen. And if her ranged beam slice was either a 3 second cooldown or had two charges I'd be happy

I wonder if he's going to be the 'easy' ranked character that works in the lower tiers, much like Hanzo (? Memory is terrible) did in OW, until you get up to higher ranks and then is countered fairly easily? He is utterly terrifying. I've only played three quick games with him and come out with massive K:D ratios. The Ankh if positioned properly is just scary.

@@Sylvus66 I was thinking maybe implement some sort of life steal ability into her kit even if it’s a minor one like 1hp per second because she really can’t hang in higher tier ranks. All her attacks could easily have a lifesteal effect and stack up making maybe up to 4hp per second. If it’s too much to ask then maybe give her the life steal effect after pairing up with a future character that’s centered all around that concept.

I agree overall but you can see the frustration already brewing in the higher tier player groups. A lot of these guys I've played with since the Closed Alpha. Hela was insane then, still insane now for example. This game feels way better at lower ranks and in more casual lobbies where you can freely play other characters and not get beaten into the dirt. We will see how it develops! Which is sort of the point of this video series for me, to see how it allllll plays out haha

The thing that is already was sad a thousand times that this game needs even before the game was released. It's role selection. Weather it was ranked or quick match the game is ruined by ppl who don't care about the role they wanna play what they want to play. I think this game would be alot better with role selection and I am sure I'm not the only one thinking that. Besides that this game needs more meaningful teamups.

I am a big role queue supporter. Honestly, think its required. I am confident it will come some day. Having this Open Queue experiment is fine for a bit, but it's going to crack and break (and already is). Role queue adds structure and balance rules that you need to make a game successful. When you think about it, every major sport in the world has "Role Queue" in a way as well.

I think team composition is more more important than roles. I don't think they need it. The fact that you can change characters right after you die means you can change to the role the team needs. So you should change instead of wanting others to play roles you don't.

oh storm is awful - i understand how impactful her aura can be and how strong her ult is but this character is just slow - it flies slow, her projectiles are slow, most of her animations are slow. Iron man can at least dodge stuff or place himself in a way where he can safely shoot people with his aoe. Like seriously - I never won with storm in my team.

A lot of it is a numbers game. You're right, we would buff health pools, buff damage reduction mechanics etc. I always think of buffs/nerfs based on - Do we need to buff 20 characters or only nerf 5? What is easier?

I love that there isn't a defined meta currently, compared to OW with the dreaded GOATS and the likes, it's such a nice change. That said, as a healer who mostly plays luna, I am not looking forward to ranked. I'm already getting dived from iron fist and spiderman & cant do anything (especially if I miss my ice ability). There are some characters that just feel utterly broken in the damage they can put out compared to others and on the flip side there are some characters that are really clunky to play (I'm looking at you storm and thor). That said, love the game, feels like OW1 launch and I hope that continues to be the case.

Dive took a long time to evolve in OW. Actually took years and some significant buffs to DVa. And it was in Korea it evolved and I think it happened there first because dive requires significant coordination. I think dive hasn't bubbled up in rivals yet because there hasn't been a good team that's put the work into really grinding it out. And without tournaments, why would they?

Same thing happened during play test, if you wanted to win and the other team went hela punisher, or scarlet magneto, you almost had to mirror them. And imo all of the imbalances are made worse by no role q. We are just a few days in, but some mode with role q would make this learning stage more enjoyable at least.
