I think the healing output is fine but yeah it lasts too long (12 seconds) and she can charge it quite quickly. So every second fight it's up and can just flat out win a fight!

Gotta be careful what tour asking for. Because you can ruin the character and make them unplayable. I've seen a lot of strong Ults that delete heroes like Punisher, Iron-man and Hela. So having an Ult as a saving tool is necessary

My girl Storm is a strategist trapped in a duelist’s body 😫 I wish they would just rework her to be one or the other! Support / DPS hybrids almost always end up being painful to balance. They’re either broken because they’re too good in both niches or falling behind because they’re underpowered in one or both niches. Storm is too iconic to meet the same fate, justice for Ororo 🙏.

Agreed. Very well said. Storm swore she didn't ever want to kill at some point I believe, and she had big roles in Mutant Politics. I think given her powers there's many ways to turn into a fun and viable strategist more focused on support. I hope for it. I've got designs in my head!

No he doesn’t. He’s fine as a duelist. As a suggestion, they could reduce the cd of his damage mitigation ability by 2 sec and give him an extra charge of claw dash while slightly increasing its cooldown by 2 seconds or have feral charge reset on elimination (final hits and assists). There are plenty of tanks they could add from the Marvel Universe before they start reworking characters.

I was thinking about ways to buff him. I would give him constant regen that's scales with his rage. Also an extra 100 health to bring his health to 400 And his roar gives a movement speed buff or it resets the cooldown for claw dash The problem I find is he just dies way to fast. And he can't chase down enemies. But his damage is fine. Also make his leap easier to grab people because it never works.

I’ve ran into better Wolverine players over the last couple of days… they decimate tanks early or force a lot of CDs that win the fight later. It’s just harder to get value with wolverine until they give him small buffs to keep him in line without losing his identity as a tank buster.

Nice video with good analysis , I was rank 1 a few days ago playing pretty much only strange since he is by far the best tank right now but hanging around top 20 at the moment but most of the video is correct the top end of the dps role is too strong at the moment leading to a lack of variety and the tanks and healers basically have to be picked around them for the most part, also for wolverine try and watch some games with healis in them he also streams if he is on private but whenever I get him on my team on wolverine I know I won the game he has a super interesting playstyle with it which could potentially fall off later when people have more experience but at the moment it’s quite effective into tanks, also in regards to tank variety strange is for sure too strong compared to the others however they have a bit of a balance nightmare where the dps are too strong and games that strange is banned in just become dps player 1 vs 1s due to the lack of ability to block damage from the tank pov I don’t necessarily think strange needs a nerf maybe to his damage but the other tanks probably need a buff to be honest to make them more appealing to play and bring impact since there isn’t really a reason to not play strange + mag groot or hulk at the moment as these characters are the only real ones that bring impact mag has an unbreakable shield groot walls can bring a lot of value around hooks and just in general and then hulk can buff strange dps to an even higher level outside of those 3 most tanks just don’t do enough to be worth picking at the top top level. Anyway that was a yap but interested to see your future content thanks for covering stuff like this for the player base

Yo thanks for the long comment! Appreciate you writing all of that. I agree that finding a solution to Vanguards and just making them more desired to play is important but difficult. People enjoy speed and mobility and flashiness and a lot of the duelists clearly have it. I hope with some balance changes and some new Vanguards and stuff that the role will become more used. High ranks like yourself know what is required, low ranks just sorta play what they want and pray it works lol Thanks again for your input!

I hope Wolverine gets a buff in the future but I have found effectiveness with Wolverine specifically. He can tackle tanks into real bad positions and him with a mantis boosting him and some ranged dps to help burn the tank… it can work. I really want to see the stats at all the different levels of play to see the whole picture.

Wolverine is definitely in the Tank Buster role currently. He does % of MAX HP damage, which obviously favours focusing tanks. I would need to test it but I wonder what his TTK is on a tank compared to Punisher shooting the tank in the chest, or Hela etc. Wolverine has to put himself in great danger, he's a simple Peni web or a Luna freeze away from being dead easily. Love the character, I think he just needs a little bit of tuning and help

Hela, Hawkeye, and Psylocke need nerfs, that is step 1. Then something needs to be done about the state of Luna and mantis ults because the disallow anything to happen in a match for too long which is step 2. In OW for example, there is anti nade from ana, currently there is no way aside from insane burst to kill someone in those ults. Step 3 is make the tanks more fun, I have the most hours on tank from filling and my god do I hate it especially playing against hela, bucky, hawkeye, its just insufferable. Step 4 is slight universal health regen like overwatch has.

I think it’s too early to suggest nerfs for any characters except Héla, & even then I would just nerf the health she gets from her ult or something, she basically has 3 lives when it’s charged. In this early stage they should just buff the weaker characters & see if that balances things out

As a Hela main i absolutely agree with you, buffs before nerfs As for hela though I think we can go about it in 2 ways either make it always a 3 HS kill (only 2 hit with team up) instead of a 2 hit kill or really nerf her range so she can only 2 hit kill fairly close, so she has to really work for her kills Also nerf the ult health cause there's basically no counterplay right now

Hi, storm main here. I would love for her to be stronger but I've found myself dominating lobbies (when they don't have hela or hawkeye). I didn't like her kit at first but it's really grown on me. Yeah I agree I mean she CAN work but it doesn't make sense in some ways. Her aura wants her to be in the mix, which now puts her at risk from more than just snipers. We will see how she develops!

Hela is insane but Hawkeye is something else, he melts tanks solo. Also, pointing and clicking should still bring value, not everyone can aim, consistently. I don’t know what to do about characters that rely solely on aim. If you undertune their damage, they are effectively useless, but if you leave it as is, they dominate the meta, no questions asked.

Well said. It's a tricky problem. I feel like an extreme change would be to lower the damage but make the projectile hitbox bigger. Basically makes it easier to hit (to help the people with worse aim) but doesn't reward high skill players as much because the damage is lower and they would've hit the target anyway. Who knows. It will be interesting to see how this develops

There's plenty of ways to nerf a hitscan character. Hela basic should have travel time, it's a bloody spike, increase reload time, decrease ammo count so if you miss any shot it really hurts. I think they got winter soldier almost completely right

No, leave Hawkeye EXACTLY like he is. Sure he can one shot a lot of characters, but you have to be able to aim, and most people can't aim. Also he has to have the bow fully pulled back, plus his archers has to be at 70ish percent. He's got a lot of weaknesses.

I just want jeffs ult to match its animation. It grabs you like 5 feet out of the animation and when youre web swinging above it I also think magneto would be significantly better if his protection bubble had a seperate cooldown for him and his ally

i think a really easy fix for wolverine's damage output is just to raise the flat damage & percent damage of his attacks, but only taking the higher of the two (think Acrid's poison from RoR2, if you're familiar). that way, he can do serviceable flat damage to squishier heros while retaining percent damage against tanks. currently, wolverine does something in the ballpark of 26 damage per swing against squishies at max rage, which is about 75% of the damage a melee hero like Panther gets for free. a larger healthpool / passive regen / lifesteal also probably wouldn't hurt.

Yup agreed. Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I had him penciled in for a flat damage increase, but your hybrid idea is interesting as well. He is okay against tanks, and pitiful against squishies. Flat dmg will help it all and we can go from there. I'd also reduce his SHIFT cooldown by 2 seconds. As for his passive regeneration thing, I'd lower the cooldown from 90 seconds. It's too valuable, he practically needs it

I was thinking give him an extra 100 health making his health pool 400 health. With passive health regen that scales with his rage(Probably 4% to 10% of health regen per second) His howl lowers the cool down of his claw dash to 1 second and lasts 8 seconds. I dont think his damage is that bad, I think it's his survivability and sticking on a target that's his fatal flaw. Also make his leap easier to grab.

I'd love to see a hulk buff personally. I just want his jump to charge slightly quicker, maybe %5 . Everything else feels really good but if i could have one more thing it would be either a second clap charge or .5-1 second cooldown reduction

I think they should look to buff storms passive. Maybe make the cloud version affect enemy sight by making it foggy. Then the lighting version can slow enemies or reduce their damage

If they don't nerf Luna's ult duration they could reduce her ult charge rate. Last night I had 3 people on top of me and my buddy went from 3% ult to 71% charge in 13 seconds at the start of the match. Her shift piercing healing/damage is just too good for the amount of value it generates. If they made it take longer to gen her ult then when to use her ult becomes a more critical decision.

100% agree. I would do both to be honest. Nerf her ult duration from 12 seconds to 9, increase her ult energy required by like 20%. It's too persistent, it lasts too long, it requires little skill, it can hardly be outplayed. Great comment!

If you're really trying to carry, that seems to be the motto. But Vanguards can make a big splash as well. Strategists definitely have the lowest carry potential. I will say at lower ranks you can do a lot more with any character if you're good!

I think the seasonal buffs are a headache. Ill be discussing it in a patch note video. Because you're right, maybe after season is over they are easier to deal with, maybe something else gets busted instead. I prefer the balance to have more stability and not wildly change every 3 months but we will see how they handle that. It's going to change even sooner with Season 0 being a short one. Certain maps or certain spots in maps she is very strong. Obviously she prefers closer quarters to utilize mines and her nest, and the fact she has no self defense in the way of a shield. I personally feel like she's better suited as a second body up front and don't like tanking alone with her, but honestly feel like she's strong overall. If dive becomes more prominent (like if they nerf the ranged duelists) then Peni gets even better since she's so strong vs dive. I think you can go far with Peni, definitely!

Hela and Hawkeye are only up so high because of their seasonal buffs. They get a 20% DMG boost and this is NOT a team up buff. They just have this all the time even without the team up. it's called a seasonal buff so I assume when the season ends these buffs will be gone and hela won't do as much DMG anymore.

They promote the main character so you have characters to build off of. Team ups may change per season too. Might not change until after season one. This is technically season 0

I think Peni is just more situation than some of the other tanks. A good Peni on the right map (close quarters) and that has some other Vanguard with her is a real threat. She has a lot of great tools, her right click is insane against dive etc. She is great just needs to be in the right spot to shine. Right now she just cant hit many right clicks because Dr. Strange shields and Magento shields are in front of her face all game.

It is possible. Just might be frustrating on certain heroes. Strategists are a bit at the mercy of others decision making, even if you are superb at it. You play enough, you'll move up, and hopefully can get to a rank where people understand what is happening around them better!

Dps is your best bet for solo climbing tanks are dependent on Heals and team and strategist is dependent on tanks and dps but some dps can basically solo carry

I'm gold 1 and have seen tons of scarlet get ace in the team, tons of iron fist, frequent storm. I think if you keep playing you'll see players able to manage their kits well, even if they seem to "suck" magnetos love to bubble scarlet and they're able to get constant big aoe wipes. And if they're not playing Magik, iron fist will get in there with results unlike playing wolverine. Storm is less frequent but not underutilized like the bottom I believe are last. The only characters I barely see played is wolverine, widow, and squirrel girl.

Thanks for your kind comment! I agree that if there was a candidate to be moved to Vanguard it would be him. I would've bet money he was a Vanguard to begin with, guess I would've lost. I think it makes total sense for the character and the current basis of his kit. I do believe Storm should be reworked to a shielding strategist as well. I'm not sure where the devs stand on reworks in general, it's likely too early but we will see! Love your comment thanks dude

I think iron man is being massively underrated harass the healer always stay moving and assist in damage with his beam ability when enemies push your team S tier if you learn how to properly play him also the best for getting odd angles on the enemy team preventing the enemy team from moving up

Im excited but also worried about the patch notes. If they choose to buff the entire cast and not nerf the 8 or so heros that are op, its going to quickly become toxic and deny new players. I hope they give universal nerfs to healers, maybe something like everytime X character is healed, it reduces their next heal by 30 (stackint up to 90) until 5 seconds pass from the last heal. At the current state, not playing the top tier dps just feels bad because 2-3 healers can heal all damage on a unit instantly, so you need the burst dps. Strange having an 850 large shield is too op considering that characters like venom only get a comparable sheild on them at extremely low hp. A lot of ults also need buffed. You have team wipes like jeff, iron man, wanda, Strange, hela, punisher, and more, but some character ults just suck. Venom just gets another sheild, which he doesnt need or want considering he has a shield skill thatll give more, and hes designed as a dive character, making it a far better choice to have a single target or large damage ult that can kill in exchange for some of his hp, which would combo better with his skills. I guess a way that they could go about nerfing without nerfs is by giving some of the less chosen heros heros a debuff on their attacks that reduces healing received. If you cant tell, i like venom, so i may be baised.

@Watermelon_Man everyone in low rank and qm is running 2x healers. There needs to be a nerf when the only way to kill is to 1 shot or ult. A bad team comp doesn't justify not nerfing what needs to be nerfed on medium to good comps. The easiest way to do this is just adding anti heal onto certain vanguard skills as a debuff that can be inflicted or by reducing the healing amount per healer on the team. They can just not balance being immortal with 2-3 healers under the excuse of a bad team only running 1

I have potato aim, but I pick up Hela and just dominate lobbies. I actually really love the hero (fell in love with her bc I love Cate Blanchett and her portrayal of Hela), but heroes shouldn't be that oppressive by sitting on the opposite side of the map with such return of value for such little input. Psylocke may be oppressive at times, but she requires a lot to get that value. You have to get into a backline and find your opportunity and you can have your cds forced out. Compared to Hela, she's much more fair, but her combo is maybe a tad bit too much. But if you nerf her combo it will be taken over by Iron Fist or Punisher shotgun. And tbh, part of the charm of rivals for me is that you can play a duelist and find an assassination much more easily than OW (bc OW has made it so stupidly hard to find assassinations), so I actually hope they don't nerf Psylocke or anyone except Hela. Also Hawkeye, I hated Hanzo forever in OW, I don't like, and will never like Hawkeye. Dumpster the character I don't care.

Damage needs a major nerf and so does healing. If you’re a vanguard against a Hawkeye and Hella it’s so frustrating, especially if they are damage boosted by mantis. You literally just die in 2 seconds flat, unless you play strange. Then they need to nerf the click a button immortality abilities. Life link. Luna/mantis ult. Loki immortality. These abilities are completely broken. Vanguard is by far the worst role in the game with very little play making potential due to how oppressive these jacked up stat outputs are.

Tbh hela and hawkeye kinda ruin the game for me. Just unfun to play against. I liked the scrappy fighting in the beta. How i would fix storm is her aura for speed and damage increase the aoe of it by 100%. Becsuze shes a flyer but when she flys her team loses the area effect, her attacks pen but shes flying so doesnt do anything. So ok you play her on the ground. Shes just a weird dps support hybrid, just feels bad.

Have to do the combo with Him. Left then back to shielding when you are far away. When kup close you need to left click into melee. Rinse repeat. But gotta make sure when your dark energy is high enough weave that into your combo.

Buff Scarlet, Squirrel girl, storm, captain america. Then nerf Hela,Hawkeye. One thing compared to overwatch I know there isn't a ton of shields but I don't like how powerful the defensive ults in this game are like Luna/Mantis but they are also insanely poorly balanced because they are also the only two with cc in the strategist class. Luna being the only one able to heal flankers. In overwatch Zenyatta has zero cc and low healing and is mostly dps. Lucio has aoe healing that is also low neither of them can main heal. So why is it that in rivals can Luna and mantis can have almost all the tools a healer would want and high healing? I do think cloak and dagger are good but luna and mantis have way higher dps and cc with shadow phase ability being very hard to use to save other people.

What you doing it's generalization, trying to impose same standards on all characters without taking consideration that characters made to be played in different ways, Storm's attack's not hitscan and not doing shitload of damage as Hela's because she made to be played in different way as booster for team speed/damage/aoe 🌩, Storm flying and are easy target for snipers while her ult gives her superb aoe push, meanwhile Hela pays for her high damaga with low mobility where you can't control bird movement and not having even float skill of Starlord, instead only slow glide skill of Namor. So have some modesty my dude!

I think 2-2-2 is pretty not great, and people are just doing it because of overwatch. I believe that will change in time. Psylocke is probably the most overrated hero in the game. Unfortunately, i think netease said theyre not gonna nerf anything and approach balance with a "buffs only" mentality, which is a failure of an approach to balance.

Psylocke can do 250 dmg in under 2 seconds with just her basic attack and right click, which is fairly broken. If you catch someone offguard, thats it. I posted a video of getting 78 kills in a single match with Psylocke, and you can see me insta KO people often. She's good, but at least the ultimate is counterable in many ways

Ohhhhh you've "only played about 7 ranked matches" that kinda explains alot At higher ranks you see ALOT more ironfist and people pick squirrel girl to hard counter moon knight etc.. Punisher can get demolished by pretty much any tank etc At high ranks the meta is different. So ur diagnosis about Hawkeye hella is wrong. The problem is healers. The reason these characters are so strong is because they have one hit potential. Burst. If u don’t kill enemies immediately, they instantly heal to full. It’s very difficult to get kills with scarlet or punisher high elo. If they nerfed all healing by about 20% you would see much more diversity in the dps.

The games is kinda boring honestly. Same gameplay loop and levels. The aim mechanics is terrible. Literally aiming at the target and hits still don't register. The matchmaking is absolute ass. There is no role queue, so every game is 6 dps. I think the only people that play this game is children and manchilds. Marvel IP is kinda weak honestly. They should of made a moba shooter for League of Legends instead. That game would last a 100 years. People say that is an Overwatch killer, I mean Overwatch is such a shit game too, so thats not really setting the bar high.
