It only took a few things to make this scene more grounded than other superhero fights: 1. *The hero actually gets more and more tired as the fight goes on.* He stumbles, has to take breathers to recover, leans against the wall, and even outright collapses once the fight is over. 2. *The bad guys aren't bowling pins.* They keep getting back up and going for it until they're literally _forced_ to stay down by several rounds of beatings by Daredevil.

Charlie F In the stairwell fight he was in pretty bad shape as well. Suffering a concussion after having been shot in the face by Punisher. It seems to be kind of a running theme with MCU Daredevil... as skilled as he is, he gets a power-up from already being severely injured before the fight. Then again... he was in top shape (although out of practice) in Defenders and was straight up beastly at that point. I like how he actually gets progressively better with each battle, showing the increase in experience.

What’s cool in this fight scene is that Matt is always leaning and or on the ground or is in some sort of a disadvantage. That immediately gives the audience something to latch onto, and more importantly someone to root for. That’s something that Jackie Chan used to do in his old movies back in Hong Kong, which was to give himself a clear disadvantage. However, Jackie typically did that for comedic purposes, while in Daredevil they are using it for a dramatic effect. They’re highlighting Matt’s tenacity, a trait integral to his overall character.
@GregGuerraMusic6 жыл бұрын
UM. This is an excellent analysis. I feel that the audience latching on due to the disadvantages might be a implicit thing that appeals to our humanity. I doubt it is a conscious thought of, "He's at a disadvantage so we root for him", but just the human nature of compassion perhaps.

It literally IS a single-shot. That's why the Emmy's ruling that it was "too long to be eligible" was ridiculous, and why it's so cinematically amazing. Every. single. actor. had to PERFECTLY nail their chorography and movements. The door flying out and smashing against the wall, the bodies flying through the air, those semi-improvisational moments of exhaustion and pain (even though the actors likely communicated ahead of time that after Punch #19, they'll lean against the wall and take a deep breath before Kick #12 [or in Charlie Cox's case, that he'd wince and grab where his lung was reinflated], each time would always be slightly different, and the other actors can't just stand there twiddling their thumbs while waiting to fall down from Kick #12. The actors would have to improvise a character-appropriate action, like flinching, to keep up the kayfabe) - all PERFECT, or everything had to be reset and started over. Oh, and don't forget avoiding the approaching camera without looking towards it, and how the operator themself had to perfectly time the camera's movements, while avoiding the fight motions & "unconscious" bodies on the floor, all while keeping a steady rhythm.

I like that in the Echo vs Daredevil fight scene they got his acrobatics and agility pretty much right like in the comics but nothing will surpass how real THIS fight scene feels. The closest I could compare is the action in winter soldier, which was probably peak marvel in terms of grounded fight scenes

Why is this is this fight scene so good? 1, They don´t relay on shaky cam or quick shot´s, but instead on the talents of the actor and his stuntman. (The actor do most of his stunts himself) 2, You can feel the impact of the punches. In many films they cut in a way so you don´t really see the punches, mainly to get a pg-13 rating, but this show i utilizing it´s R-rating. 3, The character start with an disadvantage, he is wounded. He has to work his way up to win the fight, making him deserve the victory more. 4, He shows pain, making him more human and relatable and so we fell more for him. 5, He doesn't win just because he is better, but rather do to determination. He refuses to give up and therefore he wins. Disclaimer, i´m no expert. I got all these point from watching an interview with Jackie Chang.
@joserivas84399 жыл бұрын
+Elias Wewel also all of this is in one shot, with four different stuntman at the same scene
@eliaswewel38999 жыл бұрын
+Jose Rivas 6, the shot is long enough for you to feel the rhythm of the fight. If each shot is just a second you won´t feel he rhythm and tempo, that takes at least five seconds in each shot, and now it a whole 3 minute shot.
@chortles99 жыл бұрын
+Elias Wewel He's also PLAUSIBLY winning by keeping no more than two (MAYBE three) henchmen within hand-to-hand range except at the very beginning when he had surprise on his side, then using at least two as human shields starting at 0:57, and taking advantage of the broken-off door, the last of which REALLY helped.

@@anshdeo Yeah but they are a staple of Super Hero mythology. I like both his black outfit and his classic costume. I like how they gave a practically reason for his suit (protection and living up to his devil title)

@MrQuelquDeux8 жыл бұрын
Most importantly this is not filmed with shitty cuts and shaky cam to hide the bad stunts. It's simply so much better to film it all in one shot. It makes everything seems real immediately. Just like Old Boy, or kung fu movies with Bruce Lee or Jackie Chan.

Shame this show stopped, it was one of the best TV shows out there and perhaps the best superhero media we got, it was just so well written and grounded. He doesn't dodge every attack and save the day, he gets tired, he gets beaten up, sometimes he fails, he is a human being, this is the same reason i enjoyed Batman 2022 too.

I love how realistic it is. It's not just some superhero brawl with unlimited stamina... He digs deep and fights with his heart over his limited humanity. THAT is greater than being a hero with unlimited ability Being one with very limited abilities

the hallway fight scenes are all feet’s of strength. DD got stabbed, gotten beaten up before this fight scene and was about ready to call it a night. But he’s not willing to give up attitude is on full display, he might be tired but he will never give up. season 2- got tied up, beaten up by the punisher, gun tied to hand and a metal chain on he’s left, given more weight to he’s punishes. The fight scene also shows how better of a fighter he has gotten since the fist hallway fight scene. Even after fighting about 30 goons he still has more to give. season 3: surviving a building falling and explode on him really damaged he’s physical body not to mention he didn’t even give himself time to heal properly, and he no longer had he’s devil suit on. To make things worse one of fisk’s goons injections matt with a drug that lowered he’s senses. Despite all of that he still continued to fight. matt is a true worrior, fighting enemies with no fear, even when the odds are against him. daredevil did not deserve to get cancelled.

magicgirliy Ben Affleck openly said that Daredevil (the movie) was terribly done and he regretted being in that role. We know as the audience that Affleck is a good director and actor. And he is indeed a DareDevil fan. So his reaction would be a smirk or smile at approval for the show. I would guess.What else were you expecting?

I remember how many feels this show gave me. Felt good to see a really good marvel production more accessible than waiting for the movies to come out. Remember how exciting this scene felt the first time I ever saw it. And I remember actually getting goosebumps at the way that they filmed the showdown between kingpin and daredevil at the season finale. There is just something about the David and Goliath story playing out in some random alley away from the entire eyes of NYC, the capital of the world. The undisputed king of crime in New York vs just some blind man. No one is there to see it, and yet the outcome will affect each and every person in the city. MAN they wanted to follow the comics closely, and did. Loved it.
