Marvel's The Fantastic Four Movie (1994)

Here it is! The unreleased Original Fantastic Four movie made for the sole purpose of preventing the rights from reverting back to Marvel Comics, before a larger budget film could be produced. The producers never intended it for release. This was done without the knowledge of the director, actors, or the rest of those involved in its production. The film was produced by low budget specialist Roger Corman. The story is based on the long running Fantastic Four Comic book, published by Marvel Comics. And features the origin of the group, as well as their first encounter with arch enemy Dr. Doom. Presented in its full-screen version. No copyright infringement intended.

Bring the cast back! Since Marvel is now jumping through multiverses, these guys should all get a cameo in these costumes in one of the movies or in LOKI. They would certainly fit with the older version of Loki from the last two episodes of season one.

They won't. They screwed everyone in that production over, refused to ever acknowledge it to hide what happened. They'll never give these people a chance to show up as the fantastic four. Even Stan Lee denied involvement with it, when he was showing up to the set and getting to know the actors. It makes Marvel look bad, so they'll pretend it never existed.

However, I think that the presence of the Void will show that Marvel can use that to explain why there's no Fantastic Four on the MCU's Earth (or Earth-616 to you fanboys out there.) If not, they can still try to get Doom. He'll be the one who might save Marvel Studios like Loki did, ironicaly.

I've seen this... years ago from a pirated copy... and it's a labor of love for (almost) all involved. If you want to dig a little deeper into it, check out the documentary, Doomed! The Untold Story of Roger Corman's Fantastic Four. There's always going to be a place in my heart for this flick.

I bought a (bootleg) VHS of this movie about 25 years ago and still have it. I agree with other posters that the script is pretty good and that production design/costumes are surprisingly good considering the movie's (ridiculously-small) budget.

Fun fact: In the original comic book, the FF launched out of somewhere in northern California. So, a group of people from Stockton, CA petitioned Marvel and made Stockton the official birthplace of the Fantastic Four.

I remember purchasing a bootleg version at comic con years ago. I already knew the history of it, thank you for posting. Liked that someone made copies. When it was suppose too be destroyed, beforehand. Then more copies were made, ect. The acting and effects were bad. But it's definitely a keeper.

As dated and low budget this is, I think it's ten times better than any of the recent Fantastic Four movies that came out and that's saying a lot, it's bad but at the same time, it looks and feels much more closer to the old 60s comics. Everyone looks like they were pulled from the pages and brought to life especially Dr Doom, that has got to be the most comic book accurate version of Doom I have ever seen. I would love to see this get released on dvd, it's long overdue.

Considering the budget they must have had, this movie was pretty enjoyable. Kind of reminded me of the old Marvel TV shows of the incredible Hulk and others. I was able to actually watch the whole thing - unlike most of the Disney/Marvel/DC flicks churned out over the past year or so. The effects were kind of crude, yes, but not a lot less believable than the poorly executed CGI stuff we see so much of anymore. I kind of missed seeing Stan and Jack walking away from the wedding at the end, like in the comic 😉 Thanks for posting this!

The main plot actually makes more sense than the Comics and many other versions. And it fits the main fundamentals of F4. Here: 1. Doom develops a resentment for Richards at the University, regarding the Galactus Energy; 2. Later, as a vendetta, Doom arranges the sabottage of Richard's ship for the research of the Galactus Energy in space (better than the shields failure due to faulty design by Richards); 3. Doom tracks the flight and the F4 crew miraculous return to Earth, and "rescues" them for his own purposes to study them at his facility. Well done.

It was apparently shelved and never released because marvel executives did not want it coming out when they realized how low budget it was made. So they made a deal with the producer, that same producer later on did the 2005 fantastic four.

actually the actual master is lost or hidden away. the only copy of this movie you see here is a VHS copy of a VHS copy. so sound and images are all subpar. the VHS copy was made by a tech who worked with the original print and made a copy for himself on tape.

It is good in many ways and a little uncomplete in others, but for me it checks out all the right squares: Susan is beautiful, the plot is like the comics, Doom is truthful to the lore, Ben is very well rendered. All I can say about this movie, is that it would've been spectacular if it had been released in the 50's or 60's. Alas, it was released 30 years too late. Bad acting, bad dialogue, bad special effects and being shot in too much dark to hide its shortcomings doesn’t mean that the intent and characterizations were wrong. The actor playing Reed Richards was spot on to the heart of what Reeds SHOULD BE. The ideas put forth should be noted by current filmmakers, because with the proper budget, and script, and actors supported by a top level production design, a new FF4 movie COULD be great if it followed the map that this movie was following. Unfortunately, Tim Story followed the map and got lost. The new movie may get too much wrong because they think they can make a better movie by ignoring this one and it's humble but ambitious intent. We may never truly get the FF4 movie we really deserve. I waited 30 years to see this and am grateful to have seen it tonight. It makes me dream of what may have been if this universe we live in had given this production the proper attention it deserved.

It's not as bad as some have said it was. There are some cartoonish 60's Batman cutaways like the spinning newspaper, the Penguin-esque secondary villain and some corny dialogue But, overall I have seen worse. Let's not forget that Roger Corman is known for his low budget B movies.

Has it ever been addressed how Reed Richards is a lot older than Sue Storm? Yeah ok, it was the mother who gave them their team name. If you say so. No one has ever explained why they all got different powers even though they were all hit with the same cosmic energy. Or how cosmic energy can give a person super powers. Almost bailed out on this one early, my stomach was starting to hurt. Glad l didn't, the doctor is kinda creepy, but him talking to Sue with scorch on his head is Harvey Korman Tim Conway level funny. Don't remember Dr Doom doing stuff like that, but if you were ever happy the Barbershop was crowded so you could read ALL!! the Fantastic Four comic books or was ever under the blanket at 10:30pm on a school night with a flashlight and a stack or sat up under the porch with your Partners swopping Issues (2 for 1 if somebody had a 25¢ GIANT) like l did, you can't help but truly appreciate the way these actors and directors stayed true to the books. The way Ben tripped when he found out how jacked up he was and Reed letting him know he had his back was better than the way l read it. I wonder what Stan Lee thought about it.
