--SERIES INFO--
Fantastic Four (credited onscreen as The Fantastic Four) is an American animated television series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions and based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. The program, featuring character designs by Alex Toth, aired on ABC from September 9, 1967 to September 21, 1968. It lasted for 20 episodes, with repeat episodes airing on ABC for three years until the network cancelled the program. It was also rerun as part of the continuing series Hanna-Barbera's World of Super Adventure.
In the show, the super team battles some of their comic-book nemeses, including Dr. Doom, Mole Man and Diablo.
The show was followed by another Fantastic Four cartoon produced by DePatie-Freleng Enterprises, The New Fantastic Four, in 1978.

Though not as charismatic or awe-inspiring as Victor von Doom, Owen Reece (a.k.a. The Molecule Man) is one of the most powerful altered humans in Marvel comics. Depicted here is is a Molecule Man still new to his abilities and one still psychologically dependent on a "wand" to channel and project his powers. Once he masters his matter- and energy-manipulating abilities, he can use them to great effect with a simple thought or act of will. In cinema, I see him as a secondary villain who is perhaps recruited by Dr. Doom to help him defeat the FF4.

This episode is based on FF#20, which introduced the character of the Molecule Man. A couple of interesting things, though. In the comic, it was the Watcher who tipped off the FF about the existence of the Molecule Man. During the fight, instead of using frost to make Sue visible, he animated nearby newspapers, engulfing her body. And Reed did not defeat MM by inventing a gun with a special spray. Instead, he deduced that MM could not use his powers against LIVING molecules. (Yes, I know in the episode, he brought a statue of a lion to life; but that did not happen in the comic.) So what he did was have artist Alicia Masters cover him and the rest of the FF with a thin layer of granite, making them appear as if they were gray statues. The Molecule Man, in his ego, attempted to change them, causing a feedback in which he dropped his wand - which as then seized by Reed. At that point, the Watcher reappeared, and transported the Molecule Man to a special prison, ending the issue.

Yep, excellent summation of that event. All due to Owen having self-imposed mental blocks on himself against using hios powers against living beings. Which Doom then removed and opened up his full power, making Owen the most powerful being in the universe (except for the Beyonder, whose power Doom had just stolen). I'll stop rambling now

This was one of my favorite cartoons in 1967 when I was 12, and watched it through ‘68 also. My dad always gave me comic book money and the FF I never failed to get.
